Vietnamese- speaking volunteers are wanted by an Alief area agency serving Indochinese refugees. Numerous assignments are available, including serving as a caseworker assistant, immigration assistance, assisting in a job placement program, handling incoming phone calls from clients and scheduling them for interview appointments, and leading small groups of persons in English as a second language classes. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Formed in 1980, BPSOS has its national office in Falls Church Virginia. It has 17 branch offices in 14 states and the District of Columbia. It exists to address problems and concerns of Vietnamese refugees and facilitate their assimilation into American society. Since September of 2005, the Houston branch has been heavily focused on Gulf Coast Vietnamese-Americans whose lives were disrupted by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The office is on Bellaire Boulevard, between S. Kirkwood and Boone Road.
