Volunteer to be a guest speaker at our life skills training classes and share your expertise and experience with foster youth. We currently have virtual opportunities available. Presentations from our speakers are usually around an hour long.
Life Skills classes are attended by youth in foster care, ranging from age 15 1/2-17. Classes take place year round and are held on Saturdays during the school year, and Monday-Friday during the summer and spring break. Our teachers follow a 30 hour DFPS mandated curriculum that covers the following topics: Life Decisions & Responsibilities, Personal & Social Relationships, Financial Management, Housing & Transportation, Job Readiness, and Health & Safety.
We can provide you with a fun activity to do or you can share your expertise and real world experience on one of the topics included in our curriculum. When we cover Job Readiness, we need several volunteers to work with our youth conducting mock interviews
