Friends of Down Syndrome is looking for kind, dependable, and enthusiastic volunteers to support our students during their academic day!

Position: Volunteer Academic Aide

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
What You’ll Do:
As a Volunteer Academic Aide, you will be paired with a group of students and assist them as they move through their daily classes and activities. Our students participate in Reading, Math, Art, Social Skills, PE, Music, lunch, and enrichment activities throughout the day.
Volunteers help create a supportive, encouraging, and positive learning environment where students can continue growing academically, socially, and independently.
Volunteer Responsibilities Include:
Classroom Support:
Assist students during academic classes such as Reading, Math, Art, Social Skills, PE, and Music.
Individual Student Support:
Help students complete daily assignments, classroom tasks, and activities based on their individual needs.
Lunch & Enrichment Assistance:
Support students during lunch and enrichment hour while encouraging positive social interaction and participation.
General Program Support:
Help teachers and staff wherever needed to keep the day running smoothly and successfully.
Requirements:
Volunteers must be 18 years or older and available for the full academic day from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
A successful volunteer should be patient, encouraging, dependable, and excited to work with our students. Experience working with individuals with special needs is a plus, but it is not required. A willing heart and positive attitude go a long way!
All volunteers must be able to pass a background check and attend a training session before beginning.
