Description

A Historic Location: Emancipation Park

The 2027 African American Male Wellness Walk will take place at Emancipation Park, one of Houston’s most historic and culturally significant landmarks.

Established in 1872 by formerly enslaved African Americans in Houston, Emancipation Park was created as a place for the Black community to gather and celebrate Juneteenth—the commemoration of June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation reached enslaved people in Texas. For generations, the park has represented freedom, resilience, community, and the pursuit of a better future.

Holding the African American Male Wellness Walk at Emancipation Park creates a powerful connection between our history and our future. We are bringing thousands of African American men, women, children, families, community leaders, healthcare professionals, businesses, and partners together at a location that symbolizes freedom and progress.

This event is more than a walk. It is a movement centered on health, wellness, economic empowerment, education, family, and community. Just as our ancestors gathered to celebrate freedom and build a stronger future for generations to come, we will gather at Emancipation Park to address the health challenges facing our communities and inspire a healthier future.

From freedom to wellness. From history to hope. From one generation to the next.

The African American Male Wellness Walk at Emancipation Park will honor where we have come from while creating a healthier, stronger, and more empowered future for Houston.
