Come out and participate in a flood mitigation project in Westbury 3 on Friday morning, September 13, 9:30 - 12:30.
Wilderness Houston is providing 800+ plants and the planting guidance to populate bioswales (water channel/ditch) on 6 flood buyout properties in Westbury. These neighborhood pocket prairies will collect and slow down water in heavy rain events. The long-rooted prairie plants have the capacity to absorb lots of water, diverting it from the storm sewer system. The native plantings also provide habitats for birds and nectar and pollen sources for bees and butterflies. Many of the plants are hosts for specific butterfly species.
Come join the planting party!
