Through the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program, PAIR is seeking an Intern for the position of Summer Program Coordinator.

Primary Objective:

Collaborate with PAIR staff and volunteers to plan, implement, and evaluate an educational summer program for refugee youth ages 11-18 which cultivates English language skills and social and emotional development among participants.

Position Overview:

Suitable for those who wish to gain practical experience working directly with at-risk youth, conducting grassroots outreach to participants in schools and residential neighborhoods, developing educational programming, building partnerships with community organizations, and expanding the impact of a young non-profit organization. You will be driving students to and from program, conducting home visit outreach, and running errands as needed. 

Applicants should possess:

  • A solid understanding of or very strong interest in learning about refugee issues, the refugee experience, and PAIR’s mission and programs
  • Previous experience or a very strong interest in working with young people (middle or high school preferred)
  • Strong leadership abilities, including project management, interpersonal skills and a proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving
  • Positive personal traits suited for PAIR programs, including compassion, empathy, sensitivity, an interest in meeting the holistic needs of the student, and a true passion for making a difference

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Required: Must be a currently enrolled, full-time, undergraduate student who will be returning to college as a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior for at least the fall semester after the internship.
  • Required: Available for 8 weeks beginning Wednesday, June 13, 2018 and ending Wednesday, August 8, 2018.
  • Required: 35 hours per week for the 8 weeks specified.
  • Required: Vehicle and valid drivers license and vehicle insurance for duration of internship.
  • Required: Background check as directed by PAIR prior to start of employment.
  • Required: Ability to supervise and maintain order within a group of children (whose English proficiency varies from limited to intermediate).
  • Required: Enthusiasm and positivity; initiative and perseverance; compassion, empathy, sensitivity and patience.
  • Required: College coursework in social work, education, international studies/relations, psychology, or similar fields evidencing an interest in and desire to assist PAIR’s unique students.

  • June TBD:  Intern Community Service Projects 

Position Benefits:

  • Pay rate is $2750 for 8 weeks.
  • The intern will be an employee, and as such PAIR will comply with all employer and employee federal tax/withholding requirements for the intern.
  • Mileage reimbursement will be provided at the federally recommended business rate of 56 cents per mile for all travel incurred on behalf of PAIR other than regular commuting to and from work.
