Description

The Department of Neighborhoods Mayor's Assistance Office is partnering with Sagemont Civic Club for annual South Belt Community Cleanup. Wonderful opportunity for volunteers to join on Saturday, April 6, 2024. Bring your friends and family to help make a difference.

  • Volunteers will meet at Beverly Hills Intermediate.
  • Set up begins at 8:00 am and check-in will begin at 8:30 am.
  • Transporting of volunteers to their designated pick-up location will begin at 9:00 am.
  • After signing in, groups of 10 will be provided vests, gloves, bags, water, etc. and be bused (Harris County Pr2 is providing buses) to their clean up location.
  • At least one adult will be a part of each group (ratio is a minimum of 1:10).
  • The idea is that each group will split into pairs, (one holding the bag while the other uses grabbers to place trash in the bag), leaving their full bags on the side of the roadway.
  • Trucks will be picking up the bags.
  • Constables will be on the routes to ensure volunteer safety as they walk along a 2-mile stretch collecting trash. Volunteers are picking up trash alongside the roadways, not IN the roadways.
  • The main throughways of our area will be targeted for the clean-up and include Beamer, Fuqua, Hughes/Sabo, Scarsdale, Sageglen, and Blackhawk (additional roads may be added depending on the number of preregistered volunteers).
  • The buses will pick up the groups as they finish their designated areas, returning them to Beverly Hills Intermediate School.

Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes.

Wearing sunscreen and insect repellant are suggested.

Every person volunteering must sign a waiver.

Volunteers under 18 must have a parent sign the waiver.

The waiver is available digitally at South Belt Clean Up and will be available at site registration.

Please contact Kay Barbour by phone or text at 713-419-3545 or Mike Work by phone or text at 832-338-5156 or respond to this email.

Following the clean-up, the Knights of Columbus from St. Luke’s Church, have graciously volunteered to provide and cook lunch for all volunteers.
