Description

Upcoming Holiday: Mother’s Day

Please deliver Mother’s Day Cards to Facility by Thursday, May 11th if you are dropping off your cards to the activity director.

Cheerful, handmade Mother’s Day cards are needed at nursing homes throughout the Greater Houston and surrounding areas! Actually, we can make facility connections throughout the United States through zip codes!

We can now visit facilities and pass out cards again or card makers can drop off their cards at a facility in their community, within or close to their zip code.

You can sign up to make cards through this post on Volunteer Houston.

Please include your zip code in the note section and also specify if you prefer to pass out your cards to the residents or if you prefer to drop off your cards.

Once I receive your zip code I will search for a facility near you. When I have located and confirmed a facility with you I  will call the activity director to ask how many ladies are at their facility and get any other necessary details.

Card Guidelines:

In order to encourage creativity, very few guidelines are imposed on the making of Holiday Project handmade greeting cards.

•The cards may be almost any size, and the media used can be as simple as colored markers. Some people use combinations of media such as markers, rubber stamps, cut-out computer-generated images, pasted bits of ribbon or felt, etc.

•Please don't use glitter-on-glue. The glitter tends to get all over everything. However, pre-mixed "Glitter Glue" is fine.

•Mother’s Day Cards - not all of the ladies are Mothers so it’s best to say Happy Mother’s Day or Enjoy This Special Day or something similar on the outside of the card and something heartwarming or funny on the inside of the card…(just don’t include anything referring to the resident as a great mom, etc)

•It's preferable that the cards not be in envelopes.

•Cards should be signed by the persons making them. Any signature should probably include just the signer's first name or first names of group.

For Volunteer Hours…

Please email pictures of your completed cards to (theholidayprojecthouston@yahoo.com) and include a picture of you at the facility passing out cards or dropping off cards, if you need volunteer hours.

Document your actual time spent making cards.

We enjoy receiving pictures of your cards to post on The Holiday Project's Facebook page.

Together we CAN make a difference and brighten up holidays for nursing home and assisted living residents. Thanks for joining us to brighten up Mother’s Day for the ladies!
