Hello Wonderful Volunteers!
Before coming to the United States, refugees have often experienced traumatic, life-threatening events. War, violence, or significant persecution has caused them to leave everything they know and love. For women, the adjustment to a new country can be especially difficult.
To help with that transition Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston created the Women’s Empowerment Group (WEG) Program, designed to prevent isolation, build community, and equip women with the information and skills they need to thrive in their new lives.
By responding to this need, volunteers will have a chance to be a part of the first in-person Afghan Women's Empowerment Social event in two years due to Covid-19.
Location: Trotter YMCA 1331 Augusta Dr. Houston, TX 77057
Date: Monday May 23rd
Time: 10am-1:00pm
We are in need of female volunteer support with the following:
- Transportation to and from the event
- Room set-up before the event and clean up after
- Child care - for pre-k children attending. This includes set-up and management of craft activities and play. Craft planning for future events.
Please reach out to Darenda Dorsey at ddorsey@imgh.org or Ahmed Keshta akeshta@imgh.org with any questions regarding this event.
