Martin Luther King Jr. Service Project Volunteer

On January 20th, 2020 our offices will be closed for MLK day, please consider spending some of your free time participating in this years YMCA-MLK Day Service project! Our service project will take place from 9am-12pm but you can come and go whenever works for you!

 

For the third year in a row we will be partnering with Plant-It-Forward. We will be helping farmers with weeding, gardening and other tasks. This is a family friendly event, there will be tasks for every age group! This project is primarily going to be outdoors so please wear clothing/shoes that are comfortable that you don't mind potentially getting a little dirty! 

 

Plant-It-Forward is a local Houston non-profit that focuses on helping refugees grow and sell products from urban farms throughout the city. Below is a link to their website if you would like to know more about the work they do for the community. 

 

 

This years service project will take place at one of their first farm sites! It shares space with the Braeswood church, below is the address and some information about the farm.

This is a three acre farm at the corner of Fondren and Willowbend. Plant It Forward farmers have been planting, growing and harvesting this land since Summer 2012.
