Our Historical Program Coordinator is planning a construction day on Wednesday, May 8th from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. and is in need of volunteers to help.
At Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center, we have a replica of an 1830's pioneer settlement and a Native American village. These historical buildings are utilized for elementary school field trips, re-enactment events, and community festivals. For instance, on the second Saturday of every month, park staff and volunteers bring the Redbud Hill Homestead & Akokisa Native American Village to life as they dress in period costumes and demonstrate 19th century life.
Jones Park has several construction projects in the works to support the Redbud Hill Homestead. A few of these construction projects are: repairing the log cabin’s roof, replacing the clay/straw filler (chinking) between cabin logs, and building an outhouse, a wood shop, a cabin add-on, and a fence for the new vegetable garden.
Tools and supplies are provided. No experience is necessary.
