Description

In observance of Earth Day 2019, you are invited to assist in a waterway clean-up and vegetation management project at Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center.  Ever since Hurricane Harvey, Jones Park staff, Eagle Scouts, and various volunteer groups have been working hard to clean up a drainage channel that is congested with litter and an overgrowth of vegetation. But for a waterway clean-up project of this size, we need more helping hands!

Tasks will include collecting litter, trimming back limbs (that trapped litter in the flood waters), and removing non-native/invasive plant species. This coordinated Earth Day clean-up effort will enhance the water flow of the drainage channel while restoring the natural habitat of the area. It will also prevent an extensive amount of litter from ending up in Spring Creek.

Participants must wear closed-toed shoes and bring their own gloves. We have some tools to loan out. But if you have tools (like loppers, pruning saws, or shovels), it would be very helpful to bring your own. Long pants, a hat, and a refillable water bottle are also recommended.

Volunteers under 16 yrs. old must have a parent/guardian volunteer alongside them.

Meet at the Nature Center at 9 a.m.
