Tutors work with adult learners enrolled in our English Second Language classes. Tutors will assist students with their English language skills through guided instruction and support. In-person and remote opportunities available.
What will I do?
- Lead small group (5-8 students) or 1-on-1 tutoring sessions
- Help students build confidence using English
- Practice speaking and pronunciation
- Teach new vocabulary words
- Assist with coursework
- A good candidate for this role has:
- Strong command of English Language, both written and spoken
- Patience, cultural sensitivity, and passion for assisting others with growing their proficiency of the English language
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
Material
- Tutors will have curriculum-basedased materials provided to them, along with additional exercises for content specific sessions (i.e. grammar) If you have exercises or lessons you would like to use, please submit them to the volunteer coordinator for approval.
Role Requirements
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent degree
- Complete background check (
- Complete Adult Education Tutor and ESL Tutor training (provided at no cost after registration). Training will be held virtually via Zoom and will last one hour. Time Commitment Class sessions typically last 2 months. Volunteers who can come in weekly or bi-weekly for at least an hour are preferred.
