HUGGS Inc. is helping recruit volunteers to support potential American Red Cross emergency shelter operations in the Greater Houston area.
With severe weather expected, standby shelter shifts may be activated to assist individuals and families affected by emergencies. Volunteers may assist with welcoming clients, registration, distributing supplies, providing information, and helping maintain a safe and supportive shelter environment.
No shelter activation is guaranteed. This opportunity is to help build volunteer capacity should shelters be activated.
Current potential shelter locations include:
- Lincoln Community Center
- Deputy Darren Almendarez Community Center
- The MET Christian Academy
- Bayland Community Center
Shifts are currently planned in 12-hour increments, with both daytime and overnight opportunities possible.
Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- Able to work respectfully with diverse populations
- Comfortable in a team environment
- Willing to complete any required onboarding or orientation from the responding agency
What Happens Next?
Expressing interest through this opportunity allows HUGGS Inc. to coordinate interested volunteers. Selected volunteers will receive additional information regarding activation status, locations, and any required onboarding before deployment.
