Join Mayor John Whitmire and the City of Houston in giving Houston students a strong start to the school year! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help at the Mayor's Back to School Fest presented by Shell. Thousands of families will receive free school supplies, health screenings, and valuable resources.
In addition to distributing 25,000 backpacks with school supplies, the event will feature on -site health screenings to include: dental screenings and sealants, vision screenings, and routine immunizations. The event also connects families to a wide range of health and social services offered by community agencies.
Date: Saturday August 2, 2025 Location: George R. Brown Convention Center Volunteer Shifts Available: 6:30am-10:30am, 10:30am-2:30pm, or you can sign up for both shifts
Volunteer Roles Include:
- Distributing backpacks & supplies
- Assisting families through the event
- Helping with check-in and crowd flow
- Supporting activity areas
