Walk MS Committee Member
Are you looking to share your skills and positively influence others to make a difference in your community? The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is looking for volunteers with excellent leadership, management, motivation, negotiation & communication skills to join our Walk MS Committee for either our Sugarland Walk MS event or The Woodlands Walk MS event.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with staff partner to develop plan of action for Walk MS based on event goals
- Promote Walk MS in the community through presentations, meetings with high-level contacts and potential sponsors/donors/volunteers
- Collaborate with Staff Partner and or Development Manager to identify potential Expo Partners
- Follow- up with identified potential businesses and organizations and recruit them to participate in the Expo and facilitate one-on-one meetings
- Work with Staff partner to develop outreach and awareness plan for Walk MS
- Coordinate the distribution of Walk brochures and posters to market upcoming events
- Serve as lead volunteer at Walk-related activities and on day of event to troubleshoot issues and manage flow of event
- Identify potential leadership volunteers to ensure growth of Walk MS Committee
- Develop strategy to identify and recruit new teams from different segments of the community (the MS community, faith communities, corporations, organizations, high schools, military, etc.)
Training and Support:
- Planning session(s) with staff partner to develop plan of action and set committee goals
- Walk MS binder including information such as event goals & history, Committee roster, meeting schedules, FAQs, position description, Society programs/services information
- Meetings with staff partner (via phone or in person) to address any questions or concerns and to identify areas of greatest need (minimum of weekly during event season)
Qualifications:
- Excellent leadership, management, motivation, negotiation & communication skills
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Prior project or event management experience a plus
- Internet and email access
Time Commitment:
- One year commitment
- Estimated time commitment: June – November
- Monthly face-to-face meetings between staff partner and Committee Members
- Monthly committee meetings
- Additional time managing and coaching committee chairs/activities and projects and attending Walk MS-related events
