We hope that you are safe and well following Hurricane Beryl’s impact earlier this week. The Conservancy has been working diligently to address the storm’s extensive damage throughout the Park. With many trees down and trails covered in debris, the Park needs some extra hands in order to return to its beloved state.
If you would like to help the Conservancy in its restoration efforts, please join us this week from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the following locations:
NO VOLUNTEER PROJECT TUESDAY, JULY 30TH OR WEDNESDAY, JULY 31 DUE TO EQUIPMENT AVAILABILITY.
Thursday, August 1st - Japanese Garden - Park in Lot A and meet at the Japanese Garden Back Metal Service Gate.
Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 3rd - Heart of the Park - Meet at the Pedal Boat Kiosk in Lake Plaza. Enter through Lot G (near the Zoo) or Lot E and park in Lot F. Look for the volunteer signs and walk up the concrete sidewalk to the pedal boat kiosk.
Make sure to bring a refillable water bottle and dress for the occasion, which means closed-toe shoes and long sleeves and pants are recommended because of the tree debris. Conservancy staff will provide gloves and any other necessary supplies at the start of the sessions.
We welcome volunteers of all ages to join us, but for any under 18, a parent or guardian must also be present and volunteering. As a small token of appreciation, the Conservancy will provide refreshments and snacks to our volunteers.
We know that many Houstonians are still in the midst of their own recovery processes, and we hope that relief arrives to everyone soon. If you are in a position where you can donate some time this week to assist in the clean-up of the Park that is a significant sanctuary to the community, we would be abundantly grateful for your help!
