The River Oaks Job Connection Center is in need of a volunteer(s) to help clients with use of technology in the computer lab. The ideal candidate would be able to teach basic technology classes with provided curriculum, help with job searches, filling out online applications and overall monitoring of the lab.
Hours: 10 am - 2 pm Monday through Friday. Other times may also be considered.
Volunteer Summary:
The Computer Lab Assistant will help train and prepare clients of Goodwill Houston’s programs and services for job search and employment by maintaining the operation of the computer lab, instructing clients in the use of computer lab technology and software applications, and by monitoring client activities in the job connection computer lab.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Helps coordinate computer lab operations and activities.
- Instructs clients in computer lab technology and software applications (e.g. answers questions, keyboarding, Internet, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing their understanding of lab operations.
- Assists clients with resume preparation, job searches and other computer based activities for purposes of job search and development.
- Monitors lab activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment that is conducive to learning.
- Maintains computer lab and classroom equipment (e.g. dusting, cleaning keyboards, etc.) to ensure availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong PC skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to work with people of varying backgrounds and cultures
- Capacity to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; multilingual abilities (strongly preferred)
