911 NATIONAL DAY OF SERVICE AND REMEMBRANCE PROJECT
Volunteer Houston in partnership with Stop Hunger Now, and the Points of Light and Travis Manion Foundations are engaging service members, veterans, and their families that have been impacted by our military conflicts as a result of September 11, 2001. Volunteering helps connect the veteran population with their communities to ease the reintegration process. The service conducted during these volunteer opportunities will strengthen the ties bonding civilian and military members in service.
Through this National Day of Service, we will be one of 20 projects nationwide where Veteran families will have an opportunity to engage young servant leaders and promote service as a path to leadership. The event will commence with a presentation of the "If Not Me, Then Who" message to youth to provide the content for why service is important. The presentation will be followed by our project partnered with Stop Hunger Now where we will be packing 10,000 shelf stable meals to combat the war on hunger. The project hopes to motivate youth to recognize the value of sacrifice and foster a spirit of service in others while also increasing the connectedness between local community members and the military population living within these communities.
This will be a family friendly event and we encourage kids of all ages to come and participate.
