Description

With the large amount of resources, information, and services that are available, it can be a daunting task for a veteran to handle by themselves. Just like in the military, we emphasize that nothing should be done alone. The Navigators are trained to answer questions about the transition, benefits, and resources. If the Navigator doesn't know the answer, they will work with the veteran to find the best source to solve their problem. Navigators are not social workers or counselors, but veterans who have been there. We encourage every veteran who has successfully transitioned to become part of this volunteer program and to encourage and empower the veterans that follow in their footsteps.

Continue serving your veteran brothers and sisters as a Navigator. So, what does a Navigator do? A Navigator is a volunteer peer-to-peer leader in LSVA. Navigators will be trained in the following:
  • Will learn, assess, and be able to convey, all of the community's resources for veterans and their families.
  • Specialize in one of seven concentrations (Suicide Prevention, Financial Assistance, GI Bill, VA Disability Claims, LGBTQ, Homeless and at-risk Veterans, and Employment).
  • Help navigate other veterans through their transition from the military.
  • Be called upon to assist and inform other veterans weekly or bi-weekly.
  • Be expected to staff JSS Houston at least once a month.
You may be out of the military, but your desire to serve is still needed. Become a Navigator by contacting Ashley@lonestarveterans.org.
