SOUTH UNION PROUD CIVIC ASSOCIATION

The South Union Proud Civic Association (SUPCA) is a community-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening and uplifting the South Union neighborhood in Houston, Texas. Formed by residents, stakeholders, and community advocates, the Association exists to provide an organized and unified voice for the neighborhood while working collaboratively to protect, improve, and celebrate the community we call home. Our Mission Our mission is to promote, preserve, and enhance the quality of life in South Union by empowering residents, landowners, entrepreneurs, and community partners through education, advocacy, and civic engagement. We work to ensure that community members have opportunities to stay informed, participate in local decision-making, and contribute to the long-term success of the neighborhood. Our Vision Our vision is a safe, vibrant, and proud South Union community where residents work together to build a strong neighborhood identity, maintain a welcoming environment, and create opportunities for future generations. We strive to cultivate a community where people feel connected, valued, and invested in the wellbeing and progress of the neighborhood. Our History The South Union Proud Civic Association was established to bring neighbors together under a shared commitment to community improvement and collective action. Recognizing the importance of organized neighborhood advocacy, residents formed the Association to create a platform where community concerns, ideas, and opportunities could be discussed openly and addressed collaboratively. Since its formation, SUPCA has worked to elevate the image of the South Union community while strengthening relationships with the City of Houston, public agencies, nonprofit partners, and other neighborhood organizations. Through civic engagement, community initiatives, and neighborhood events, the Association continues to build pride, strengthen communication, and advocate for the resources and support needed to help South Union thrive.

The purpose of the Association is to provide an organized framework to promote, preserve, and enhance the quality of life and values in the neighborhood by: extending opportunities to residents, landowners, entrepreneurs, and other interested parties through education about neighborhood and community affairs and local topics of immediate interest, elevating and promoting the image of the neighborhood, creating a safe living environment 24 hours a day, encouraging the neighborhood to become involved in community affairs, having an effective unified voice to address issues that impact the neighborhood, take action on specific issues of local county, state and federal importance that affect the community as a whole, conducting social activities that create a greater sense of neighborhood pride, enhancing property values, promoting a sense of pride and identify among the residents, establishing a direct line of communication with members of the City of Houston and other agencies, advising on available funding, loans, and programs designated for the betterment and improvement of older neighborhoods, establish relationships with other neighborhood associations and coalitions, familiarizing residents, landowners and interested parties about the Association and its purposes, and providing a forum for the airing of grievances.
