YOUNG HOMEOWNERS LEAGUE

Our vision is to ramp up to 40,000 starter homes annually in the City of Houston and the 13 counties. Our baseline starter home is 1000 to 1400 sqft size, priced $150k to $200k. 75% high school students could be working before and after graduation, assuming 25% expecting their college costs covered by family or full scholarships. 35% youth could help building starter homes, while 10% going on to full-time construction careers.

Half of Houston population can live in walkable communities with more carpooling/vanpooling to reduce car ownership costs.
Donation based fund can be setup for working mothers to receive paid maternity leave and working parents to receive childcare assistance for 0-5 year-old kids.

We empower youth, starting from high school, with financial, construction, and homeownership skills by engaging them in building homes that are affordable, from tiny to starter homes, with an option to purchase at cost, optionally with a mortgage. We lead advocate Homeownership Planning Corps, a coalition open to individuals and organizations to help youth make homeownership plans, including working, saving, and helping develop more starter homes to become young homeowners. First step in homeownership planning is to understand the importance and basics. Second step is to work and earn more income. Working in construction will help earn more and save on owning a home. Third step is to reduce expenditure and save more of the income earned. Good credit is essential if mortgage is part of the plan. Revolving funds will be used to acquire land and divide into lots. One-time-close construction loan will be used to buy lot and build starter home, if mortgage is part of the plan. If $150k is still too high for owning a home 100%, we help buyers choose ways to own 1/2 or 1/4 of a home. We help design starter homes to have more effective use of the smaller area.
