Volunteer: Youth MentorsCWS Houston is recruiting Volunteer Youth Mentors to support newcomer youth ages 15-24. Mentors will be responsible for facilitating once monthly group mentoring sessions with approximately 5 newcomer youth for a total of 6 months. Mentoring sessions are focused on social/emotional support, life skills, cultural orientation, financial literacy, and college or career readiness skills. Mentoring sessions also encourage peer support and social connection amongst group members. Requirements: Volunteer Youth Mentors must be over the age of 25 years old and must be fluent in English. Prior experience working with newcomer youth is preferred but not required. CWS is prioritizing volunteers with lived experience as newcomers to the U.S. Location: Mentoring sessions will take place either virtually or in-person depending on client needs and preference. Transportation assistance will be available to youth and mentors who participate in in-person mentoring. In-person sessions will take place at CWS Houston office, located at: 6671 Southwest Fwy, Ste. 760, Houston, TX 77024 Time Commitment: Mentors will be required to participate in approximately 8 hours of training prior to engaging in mentoring services. Mentors will receive ongoing support, training, and guidance from CWS Staff. Agency: CWS Houston CWS Houston is recruiting Volunteer Youth Mentors to support newcomer youth ages 15-24. Mentors will be responsible for facilitating once monthly group mentoring sessions with approximately 5 newcomer youth for a total of 6 months. Mentoring sessions are focused on social/emotional support, life skills, cultural orientation, financial literacy, and college or career readiness skills. Mentoring sessions also encourage peer support and social connection amongst group members. Requirements: Volunteer Youth Mentors must be over the age of 25 years old and must be fluent in English. Prior experience working with newcomer youth is preferred but not required. The Sheltering (SH) Service Associate (SA) is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Key Responsibilities Sheltering Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter. Communicate to Team Leader about availability and readiness on a regular basis throughout hurricane season. Qualifications Required: Willing and able to volunteer in person in a disaster shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Ability to work in a continuously changing environment in which work priorities may change frequently. Comfortable interacting with people from various diverse background whose lives have been disrupted and many are presenting immediate needs. As an Event Support volunteer, you will rotate between roles such as: Supporting restaurant partners (ice runs, supply support) Assisting with oyster shell recycling stations Helping maintain clean and organized event spaces Assisting with VIP Parking across from the main entrance Assist staff at GBF ticket booths (vetted volunteers only) Providing general support wherever neededYou’ll also: Rotate stations and take breaks Get a chance to experience the festival atmosphere Enjoy food, music, and communityRestrooms are available onsite.
