Volunteer: Caring Volunteers needed for Hospice Patients in the Cleveland AreaVolunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients. We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need. Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Cleveland Area. Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. Thank you. Agency: Enhabit Hospice Volunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients. Donna Martin The Holiday Project Give JOY ~ Get JOY theholidayprojecthouston@yahoo.com 832-515-3862 cell Card Guidelines: In order to encourage creativity, very few guidelines are imposed on the making of Holiday Project handmade greeting cards. The cards may be almost any size, and the media used can be as simple as colored markers available at almost any grocery or drug store. Some people use combinations of media such as markers, rubber stamps, images cut from used or surplus store-bought greeting cards, cut-out computer-generated images, pasted bits of ribbon or felt, etc. Here are a few general suggestions on other matters: •Ideally the cards should be able to stand up if placed on a table, nightstand, etc. •Please don't use glitter-on-glue. The glitter tends to get all over everything. However, pre-mixed "Glitter Glue" (such as is made by Crayola) is fine. •Sentiments that imply that the recipients' circumstances are less than ideal (e.g., "Cheer Up!", "You are not forgotten", etc.) should be avoided. •Greetings should be generic so that they can be appropriate to almost anyone. (For example, a Christmas card that says "Merry Christmas" on the front and "Wishing you all the joy of the season" or other similar sayings that are creative and/or festive inside would be fine. •Please don't enclose or attach candy to the cards. (If you want to send candy or holiday treats to the residents they must be in sealed store packaging. The Activity Director can give treats to the residents). •It's preferable that the cards not be in envelopes. (Some of the recipients suffer from advanced arthritis or other conditions that make the simple act of removing a card from an envelope quite difficult.) •Cards should be signed by the persons making them.Any signature should probably include just the signer's first name or first names of group... Please Please Please do not put anything about the state of a residents health ...such as I hope you get well soon or hope your health improves...the residents aren’t all sick that live in long term care and for the short term rehab patients in skilled nursing facilities. Volunteer: Card Making Temporarily on Hold due to the Coronavirus...The Holiday Project - 2020 Holiday Cards Needed for nursing home visitsATTN: Holiday Card-making for The Holiday Project Visits - temporarily on hold since volunteers are being restricted from visiting nursing home residents due to the Coronavirus.
Holidays are the times for connecting … with family…friends…the community at large. Many people are cut off from this connection due to health problems, advanced age, or other circumstances. The Holiday Project provides volunteers with opportunities to let people in need know that they haven’t been forgotten and to brighten their lives by brightening their day!
If you'd like to donate Holiday Cards, *you may drop them off, or mail them to:
Reunion Court of Kingwood (before mailing cards, if possible, please email me pictures of your cards so I can post some on The Holiday Project’s Facebook page...to inspire others to create cards for nursing home residents!) ♥️
*Reunion Court of Kingwood
Attn: Donna Martin
929 Rockmead Dr.
Kingwood, Texas 77339
*You can also sign up for a scheduled visit if you want to personally pass out the cards you made to nursing home residents...see our volunteer posts for locations.
Cards can also be dropped off at:
Grace Care Center of Cypress
9602 Huffmeister,
HOUSTON, 77095

Please Please Please do not put anything about the state of a residents health ...such as I hope you get well soon or hope your health improves...the residents aren’t all sick that live in long term care and for the short term rehab patients in skilled nursing facilities it is just too hard for volunteers to know who is in a facility for long term residence or short term rehab stay, so we just avoid anything health related!!

*You can also sign up for a scheduled visit if you want to personally pass out the cards you made to nursing home residents...see our volunteer posts for locations.
Cards can also be dropped off at:
Grace Care Center of Cypress

HOUSTON, 77095

Similarly, a Mother's Day card that says "Happy Mother's Day" and "The Best to You on this Special Day" would be fine, but sentiments such as "To a Great Mom" should be avoided, since not everyone visited in connection with Mother's Day has been a mother.) •Please don't enclose or attach candy to the cards. (Logistically speaking, it's usually not practical for the visit-volunteers to separate out such cards and determine which recipients are permitted to have candy.) •It's preferable that the cards not be in envelopes. (Some of the recipients suffer from advanced arthritis or other conditions that make the simple act of removing a card from an envelope quite difficult.) •Please don't put a date on the cards. (We occasionally have a surplus of cards for a given occasion, in which case we simply pack up the excess cards and use them for the same holiday the next year.) •Cards should be signed by the persons making them. Any signature should probably include just the signer's first name or first names of group... Volunteer: Relatable Role Model Letters!Girls are looking for meaningful ways to connect now more than ever, and that’s where you come in! For girls in grades 3-12, we want to include an inspiring element of connection in our Spark Kits - Relatable Role Model Letters. So what are Relatable Role Model Letters? These page-long letters written by Girls Empowerment Network volunteers aim to inspire, encourage, uplift, and celebrate girls throughout our community. During the last several months, many of us have felt disconnected, distant, or isolated from others. Relatable Role Model Letters provide volunteers and girls a unique way of communicating and feeling connected.
Be sure to check out our Volunteer FAQs (see links below)! This document is full of tips, guidelines, and an example Relatable Role Model Letter.
To register as a Relatable Role Model Letters volunteer, visit: Relatable Role Model Letters (jotform.com)
What should be included in my letters? The letter should be one page in length. Volunteers are asked to write a minimum of 5 different letters. We are currently asking for handwritten letters as this provides a personalized and meaningful touch. We recommend taking 1-2 weeks max to complete your letters. We welcome decorations, colors, markers, and stickers! We suggest using a variety of bright and bold colors. Letter recipients are girls in grades 3-8 and grades 6-12 (roughly 8-13 years old and 11-18 years old). You will be able to choose which age demographic you'd like to write letters to. Ensure your writing is legible and use language that is accessible to young folks. Use inclusive language in your letters (see our inclusive language section in our FAQs!) Steer away from language about physical attributes. Feel free to share your first name, age, city, and/or profession. Do not include any other identifying/personal information. When you have completed your 5+ letters, you will mail them to: PO BOX 3122, Austin, Texas, 78764 (ATTN: Relatable Role Model Letters). The sooner you can send us the letters, the sooner girls will be able to receive them!
What are some creative elements that you could you include in your letter? Share your favorite inspiring quote. Write about your role model/shero and why they inspire you. Share a joke or riddle. Offer words of affirmation or mantras. Share a memory from middle or high school when you were brave, kind, or used your voice to advocate for yourself or others. Write an acrostic poem using words like girl, power, bravery, strength, etc. Create fun doodles that can be colored in and decorated. Write about how you utilize the Six Cs in your life: How are you creative? What are your favorite coping skills? What makes you feel confident? Who do you enjoy collaborating with? What makes you feel like a courageous communicator? How do you exercise your critical thinking skills?
And be sure to share your letter on social media using #GirlSpark!

Volunteer: Share Knowledge, Connections, and Resources with Students on the Social Platform for Social MobilityOnly 3% of high-performing, under-resourced students end up in a great first career experience. On our social platform, professionals like you can help change that. Here's how: 1. Sign up via your computer at my.backrs.com or by downloading the Backrs mobile app from the Apple App or Google Play Stores. 2. Tell us a little about your background and experiences by completing your profile. This takes 5 mins. (Up to 15 if you'd like to give students more details about your hobbies and interests.) 3. We add you to identity-based, regional, university, and career-path Affinity Networks where you can connect with students you're well-positioned to support. 4. In Networks, you can answer students' questions, post resources or job/internship opportunities, and share insights into your college and career journey by responding to Backstage Pass posts. Though each of these actions takes a few minutes, they all have meaningful impacts on young people. 5. If you'd like to play a more involved role in a student's journey, you can join their panel of backrs. This enables you to view their goals, post on their personal feed, schedule Zoom check-ins, and even contribute to their Flourish Fund. It's a great choice for those looking to offer low-lift, relationship-driven support. Best way to see how convenient and rewarding being a backr really is? Give it a try, commitment-free: Or get the Backrs mobile app: Apple App Store or Google Play Store Our Impact Model Research shows that cross-class relationships are the biggest predictors of social mobility. And financial margin increases the odds of college persistence four-fold. We partner with schools and youth organizations to recruit committed high school and college students into our community. Then, by removing the barriers the keep well-resourced adults from connecting with under-resourced young people, our technology builds bridges across socioeconomic strata, enabling people like you to empower students like Diego R. Diego R. joined Backrs so he could pursue his dream of becoming a biomedical engineer. Thanks to his talent, hard work, and the support he's received from his backrs, he's well on his way to making that dream a reality. As he explained: "My brother was born with Chronic Kidney Disease. He’s the man who gives me the strength to pursue Biomedical Engineering and become an accomplished technician. I strive to make the lives of those who suffer like him better. I want to be the change he needs to be healthy." All of the students in our community are driven to build a better world; when they're given the resources to do so, everyone around them benefits. Watch this video to learn more about the difference Backrs makes for students: Kaothara's Experience The Backrs ExperienceBeing a great backr isn’t about grand gestures or having all the answers. It’s about the small things: sharing a word of encouragement. Passing along a helpful resource. Making an introduction. These actions make a big difference--take it from some of our current backrs: "As a backr, I love the opportunity to support and mentor my three proteges as they grow and develop. I feel grateful to be able to guide and shape their future in a positive way. Through Backrs, I have been able to watch them grow into confident and capable individuals, and it has given me a sense of purpose and fulfillment that I can't put into words. It's made a tremendous difference in my life to see them achieve their goals and know that I played a role in helping them get there." - Ahmed Dawood, Marketer at Apple "Backrs gives me an opportunity to utilize my expertise to provide mentoring and support to students. Even though my students are a couple time zones away, I have the flexibility to connect with them on my time and have been dedicated to checking my app weekly at minimum to engage in conversations and answer questions. Its exciting to celebrate their wins and talk about future plans. Mentoring was very impactful in my life so it gives me joy to give back in this way." - Lori Hunt, College Provost Join the Movement for Social Mobility Sign up for backrs today!

Volunteer: Affirmation Bookmarks!Affirmation Bookmarks Girls Empowerment Network has utilized our We Are Girls Conferences to bring our self-efficacy building curriculum to a vast number of girls at one time. This year, we are taking it on the road to help 2,000 girls across Texas plan for their futures and positively engage with their communities. Girls are looking for meaningful ways to connect now more than ever, and that’s where our volunteers come in! For girls in grades 3-12, we want to include an inspiring element of connection in our We Are Girls On The Road swag bags – Affirmation Bookmarks. So what are Affirmation Bookmarks? These bookmarks written by Girls Empowerment Network volunteers aim to inspire, encourage, and uplift girls throughout our community. Affirmation Bookmarks provide volunteers with a unique way of supporting and celebrating girls. Be sure to check out our Volunteer FAQs. This document is full of tips, guidelines, and example Affirmation Bookmarks! What should be included in my bookmarks? The bookmarks should have 8.5 inches x 2.75 inches in dimension. The bookmarks should, at a minimum, have the thickness of cardstock ( this is to ensure they are a bit more sturdy/durable than if they were written on notebook or computer paper ). However, you don’t have to use cardstock - you can use any similar material that can be found around the house/apartment, i.e. shoeboxes, cardboard boxes, etc. Volunteers are asked to write a minimum of 7-10 different bookmarks. We are currently asking for handwritten/hand decorated bookmarks as this provides a personalized and meaningful touch. We recommend taking 1-2 weeks max to complete your bookmarks. We welcome decorations, colors, markers, and stickers! We suggest using a variety of bright and bold colors. Ensure your writing is legible and use language that is accessible to young folks. Use inclusive language in your bookmarks (see our inclusive language section in the FAQs!) Steer away from language about physical attributes. Do not share identifying/personal information on your bookmark. When you have completed your 7+ bookmarks, you will mail them to:PO BOX 3122, Austin, Texas, 78764 (ATTN: Relatable Role Model Letters). Please include your first and last name in the return address area of the mailing envelope so that we can credit you for your volunteer hours! What are some creative elements that you could you include in your bookmark? Share your favorite quote celebrating the power of girls/youth. Provide a short affirmation that is uplifting. Include stickers and doodles. Draw powerful role models who have inspired you ( we’re excited to see your renditions of Michelle Obama, Frida Kahlo, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg! )

Volunteer: Volunteer for Action For HappinessJoin Us in Making a Difference: Our volunteers inspire positive change that ripples outwards
Do you want to see more happiness and kindness in the world? We’re looking for dynamic Volunteers to be part of creating exactly that! CLICK TO ACCESS OUR VOLUNTEER TRAINING: https://actionforhappiness.org/volunteer-training?utm=AD-VH About the Role: Our volunteers bring people together for shared learning experiences, based on positive psychology, that boost the wellbeing of everyone involved. - The amazing 6-week Happiness Habits course is designed to be run by pairs of volunteers like you. It features expert videos, science-backed exercises and the chance to form meaningful connections. It is a very impactful (many say life-changing) experience. - If running a 6-week course feels like too big of a first step, don't worry, you can also get involved by supporting a monthly group (they are a little bit less formal, while still having a huge positive impact!). Volunteering with Action for Happiness is a path of action that consistently feels like you are making a difference in the world. You don’t have to be an expert - or be happy all the time. If you are a warm and enthusiastic person that is more than enough to get started. Why Volunteer with Us? Do something that matters: spreading happiness and witnessing people transform for the better is a huge source of meaning.Grow your skills: inspiring others, learning together and reinforcing your own happiness skills all contribute to personal growth.Build community: meeting like-minded people, building lasting friendships and belonging to a global community contributing to a better future for all.How do I know it’s right for me? Try out the VOLUNTEER TRAINING linked above and decide for yourself. We've designed it especially to help you answer questions like this as it explains thoroughly what being a volunteer involves and helps you reflect on your readiness. - Apply Today!
