Adopt A Cat is a non-profit, no-kill cat shelter that cares for the abandoned and relinquished cats of the Greater Houston Area.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and foster homeless felines until safe, caring, and permanent homes are found for them.

We are a grassroots organization whose success and growth is a result of caring individuals working together in their communities to rescue cats.

We need volunteers who can help with the day-to-day direct care of the cats and the shelter, including things such as:

Anyone interested must be comfortable being around and handling cats, as many of our cats are outside of cages and are allowed to freely roam the shelter.

At Adopt A Cat, we know that it takes more than just a roof over a cats head to consider them saved and ready for a new home.

Many of our cats were previously strays, or have just left their homes for an extended period of time for what is likely the first time in their lives.

We want all of our residents to receive love, comfort, and specialized time that works with their comfort level. Whether that means lap time with lots of pets, playing with wand toys from a distance, or even just staying safely inside of their cage while listening to someone talk about their day, every cat can start or continue the socialization process somewhere.

We are looking for volunteers who are comfortable with being around and handling cats who can come in to the shelter and spend time with all of our kitties to help them flourish into the happy and healthy cats we know that they can be. This will also help them to get ready for adoption and entering their new homes.

(We'll absolutely understand if there is some bribing with treats and catnip that occurs during the process.)

One of the most important aspects of the shelter is building up and maintaining the health of our cats, and that is accomplished in part by visits to the vet.

Unfortunately, our shelter vehicle has been of service to us for many, many years now and the toll of that is starting to show itself.

Between the state of our car, the general (and sometimes unexpectedly intense) busyness that comes from the average day, and understaffing, we are relying largely on volunteers to help us get the cats to and from their vet appointments in a timely manner.

Outside of assisting in our cats overcoming existing and/or sudden health issues, you will also be helping them get ready to go to their new forever homes, as every cat that we adopt out is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, combo tested, flea treated, dewormed, and receives any other essential medical care that is necessary to get them on the path to recovery.

The ideal volunteer for this position:

Assist Hope Center guests (homeless persons) in obtaining services provided by the Social Security Administration.  This may include establishing an online account at SSA.gov, setting an appointment to obtain a replacement Social Security card, applying for Social Security retirement benefits, applying for Medicare, applying for disability benefits, and, if necessary, arranging for transportation to the Social Security office.

Social Services Assistant – Assists Hope Center guests in obtaining services provided by the Social Security Administration. This may include establishing an online account at SSA.gov, setting an appointment to obtain a replacement Social Security card, applying for Social Security retirement benefits, applying for Medicare, applying for disability benefits, and, if necessary, arranging for transportation to the Social Security office.

Greet homeless guests, gather essential details, check eligibility for services, and answer phones. Shift: 8:45 am to 12:00 pm

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) is opening a second resale and donation location. Our new location is in the Willowbrook area, and it needs some cashiers. Cashiers will be responsible for ringing up customers and accepting cash and card payments. They will also have responsiblities including keeping the store tidy, organizing merchandise and displays, and assisting customers throughout their shopping experience. No previous retail experience is necessary, just a good attitude!

All sales at this store will benefit Cypress Assistance Ministries. CAM is a 501c3 non-profit that benefits the Cy-Fair community. We provide rental and utility assistance, maintain a food pantry, provide job hunting resources, as well as other community services.

Cypress Assistance Ministries is opening a second location for our resale store and donation centers. We need volunteers to help us in our new donation center.

Our donation center is broken up into different departments; once you complete an orientation, you will be able to choose which department you would prefer to volunteer in. Departments include: donation intake, clothing, housewares, toys, accessories, electronics, and baby items. Duties vary by department, but include things like cleaning, organizing, sorting, pricing and displaying items in the store. We will provide training to all volunteers.

The donation center is open from 9 am - 3 pm, Monday through Saturday. Most volunteers start off working 3-4 hours, once per week.

All sales in the resale store will benefit Cypress Assistance Ministries. CAM is a 501c3 non-profit which provides assistance to the Cy-Fair community. Phone calls, pen-pals, and special projects like blanket crafting are examples of indirect services. Volunteers can also get involved with administrative support by assisting in the office. Participate in events at assisted living such as bingo or karaoke. Attend fairs to recruit volunteers at campuses. Hand out flyers to the community to recruit volunteers.

Using the Application Feedback Form and the guidelines provided, you will review, proofread, and offer detailed suggestions to ensure each application meets the highest standards of professionalism. Volunteers will receive 1-3 applications per session to review, helping clients craft "pristine" applications that set them up for success in their job search.

This volunteer opportunity occurs three times a month, aligning with each JSA class cycle, and is conducted entirely electronically. Applications are sent out on Wednesdays, and reviewed submissions must be emailed back by 8:00 AM the following Wednesday. This one-week turnaround is vital as student training programs operate on a tight schedule. By contributing your time and expertise, you’ll directly impact the confidence and success of our clients as they take their next steps toward meaningful employment.

You will be there with a WorkFaith employee and help to speak with potential clients, volunteers, or anyone interested in learning more about WorkFaith. You will be helping to spread the mission of WorkFaith to the next generation or anyone attending the college fair.

The Community Engagement Ambassador position strengthens WorkFaith’s presence in the community by helping us build awareness and connect with individuals and potential partner organizations who may benefit from our programs. Community Engagement Ambassadors will represent WorkFaith at resource fairs, outreach events, and in everyday interactions, sharing our mission and introducing people to the opportunities we offer.

By engaging with community members, partners, and local organizations, Community Engagement Ambassadors help expand our reach and support our mission of empowering individuals through faith-based job readiness training. Their involvement ensures consistent visibility for WorkFaith and creates meaningful connections that benefit both our clients and the broader community.

Requirements:

Help a child who is reading below grade level. Volunteers needed to work with elementary-age children in northern Spring Branch once or twice a week. Work with small groups (2-4 students) for an hour once a week.  Simple lesson and materials provided for you.

Volunteers would need to commit to only once-a-week visits with their group of children for at least one semester. One hour training provided before you start as well as a background check. Program has proven results in improving student reading levels.

Our mentoring program is designed to support the growth of our students on the fields, in school, and in life. Mentors are matched with a SpringSpirit participant in grades 3-12 and commit to meet in person at least once a month.  Mentors must submit to a background check and go through an orientation process before being matched with a mentee.  2 locations in Northern Spring Branch.  

We need your help to keep great books accessible to communities 24/7. Visit Little Free Libraries in your community to distribute books! 

We can suggest where to look for free or inexpensive books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app. Volunteers over 18 anywhere in the U.S. where there are Little Free Libraries can register for this opportunity.

Nurses (working/retired/student) are desperately needed by Project C.U.R.E.   We process donated medical supplies and equipment for donation to hospitals in developing countries.  Volunteers sort the donated supplies and nurses are always a huge asset to our work.    Nurses bring much needed expertise and can also serve as team leaders for other volunteers who inventory, sort, and pack the materials in preparation for shipment. The nurses' medical expertise helps insure that the teams correctly categorize and group the materials. Volunteer shifts can be arranged for weekdays or Saturdays

BIOMEDICAL/ Mechanical/ Electrical engineers and technicians are desperately needed at Project C.U.R.E. We send surplus medical supplies and equipment to developing nations. If you are skilled in this field, consider coming to our warehouse for about three hours a week to assess and repair donated equipment. Shifts can be arranged Tuesdays through Fridays and select Saturdays. Our warehouse is located at 8303 Kempwood (near Bingle).

About Us
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at Project C.U.R.E. Houston. Project C.U.R.E. is the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries around the world. We would be delighted to have you join us and share in our mission.

WHAT do volunteers do?

Our volunteers help with all aspects of our life-saving operation. Volunteers sort donated medical supplies, prepare shipments, help manage our warehouse, and even work with our hospital partners to procure supplies. We also have volunteers who drive out to make scheduled donation pick-ups, test and repair medical equipment at all levels of expertise, help with fundraising and outreach, plan events, and assist with administrative needs.

We do not require any experience or medical background and will teach you everything you need to know.  With that said, we do love nurses and medical professionals! Engineers are also extremely valuable to us.  

HOW do I register?

New volunteers must create a profile online prior to volunteering.  

You can then log in using your user id/password to sign up for future individual volunteer sessions.

*Minimum age to volunteer is 15. Volunteers under 18 will be prompted to print a release form for their parent/guardian to sign. They must bring the signed form when they come to the warehouse.  This release expires at the end of each calendar year so an updated release may be needed.

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) needs cashiers for our resale store, Angels' Attic. Cashiers will be responsible for ringing up customers and accepting cash and card payments. They will also have responsiblities including keeping the store tidy, organizing merchandise and displays, and assisting customers throughout their shopping experience. No previous retail experience is necessary, just a good attitude!

All sales at this store will benefit Cypress Assistance Ministries. CAM is a 501c3 non-profit that benefits the Cy-Fair community. We provide rental and utility assistance, maintain a food pantry, provide job hunting resources, as well as other community services.

Cypress Assistance Ministries(CAM) needs volunteers to help in our donation center.

Our donation center is broken up into different departments; once you complete an orientation, you will be able to choose which department you would prefer to volunteer in. Departments include: donation intake, clothing, housewares, toys, accessories, electronics, and baby items. Duties vary by department, but include things like cleaning, organizing, sorting, pricing and displaying items in the store. We will provide training to all volunteers.

The donation center is open from 9 am - 3 pm, Monday through Saturday. Most volunteers start off working 3-4 hours, once per week.

All sales in the resale store will benefit Cypress Assistance Ministries. CAM is a 501c3 non-profit which provides assistance to the Cy-Fair community. We provide rent and utility assistance, maintain a food pantry, provide job hunting resources, and have many other programs to benefit our community.

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) is partnering with some area grocery stores to help provide food for our food pantry. We just need some helpful individuals to pick up the donations from these retailers and help deliver them to CAM's facility.

Programs like this are wonderful resources for CAM, as they help us source items that would be otherwise difficult to source (such as bakery items and produce), and they help reduce food waste in our community.

Volunteers must have access to a vehicle suitable for transporting food items (an SUV or minivan would work perfectly, a sedan with sufficient trunk space would work as well). We will provide insulated bags.

We need weekly drivers for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You may choose to volunteer for one, two, or all three of these pick-ups.

After volunteers have completed 12 hours of volunteering they are eligible to assist with our events. They help set up the events, manage animals brought to the event, answer questions from the public and help breakdown afterward.

Microsoft Word – Digital Literacy Class

Do you love technology and enjoy helping others gain confidence with digital tools? Are you fluent in English and Spanish and comfortable offering live translation or tech support?

We’re seeking bilingual volunteers to assist with our 10-week Microsoft Word course for adult learners. Volunteers may help participants navigate computers, understand key Word functions, and encourage learners as they build valuable digital literacy skills. No teaching experience required—just patience, kindness, and a love for sharing knowledge!

Time Commitment 

Volunteers are requested to commit to teaching for the length of the semester. It can be multiple classes on Tuesday and Thursday or one class, one day a week.

Our ESL program follows the academic year schedule, August through May, with breaks for holidays and in between semesters. 

We believe this time commitment is necessary to foster relationships based on trust, respect, and the love of Christ, and will allow the volunteer to see the direct benefit of their role as a mentor/tutor.

Volunteer Position: Donor Relations Manager (Remote)

Reports to: Executive Director

Overview: Project C.U.R.E. is seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented Donor Relations Manager to serve as a key volunteer supporting donor engagement and relationship development. This remote role works closely with the Executive Director to help build a strong donor pipeline, manage relationships, and coordinate communications that lead to long-term support of our life-saving mission.

Time Commitment: Flexible schedule with a preferred commitment of 4–6 hours per week. Some weekday availability is helpful for coordinating meetings and donor events.    Although this position is primarily remote, we would ask that you come to our Spring Branch warehouse for initial training and then occasionally thereafter.

Impact: By helping us engage and steward new and existing donors, you’ll directly contribute to Project C.U.R.E.’s ability to deliver critical medical supplies to underserved communities around the world. Your work ensures our donors feel valued and connected to the lives they are changing.

Lives can be saved through your involvement with a program that channels badly needed medical supplies to developing countries. You can support the program by helping in our warehouse in southwest Houston. Shifts can be scheduled on an occasional basis and can be arranged for weekdays or Saturdays.

If you're compassionate, fluent in English, and can volunteer a couple times per week, we want YOU to help a group of Houston adults learn to speak English. Hospice volunteers provide a variety of direct and indirect services to patients and their families. Visits to provide companionship, caregiver relief, errands, music therapy, pet therapy, and other services are examples of direct services. Phone calls, pen-pals, and special projects like blanket crafting are examples of indirect services. Volunteers can also get involved with administrative support by assisting in the office. Participate in events at assisted living such as bingo or karaoke. Attend fairs to recruit volunteers at campuses. Hand out flyers to the community to recruit volunteers.

What hospice volunteer does is determined by their abilities and interests.
