First Impressions volunteers work either one-on-one, or in small groups, with clients to help them increase the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to be successful in job interviews.  They provide practical information on preparing for interviews as well as an opportunity to practice their interview and presentation skills.

Monday-Friday: 10:45-1P

Greet visitors as they enter the hospital. Provide patient information such as room location. The Information Desk also serves as the hospital concierge providing local restaurant and hotel information as well as calling for taxi service etc. Uniform required. Free parking provided.

Volunteers are needed to assist the patients, their guest and the staff in the Cardiovascular, Intensive Care, General Surgery, and Ambulatory Surgery waiting areas of the hospital. Duties include greeting patients and their guest upon arrival, assisting with family visits to patients both pre-op and post-op, extending moral support to patients, loved ones, and generally serving as a liaison between the waiting and patient care areas

Weekly four-hour shifts are available between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on weekdays or weekends

Volunteer Instructional Aide (2 days/week)

Summary:

The Volunteer Instructional Aide will be responsible for assisting the ESL or

GED instructor. This person must be sensitive to the needs and feelings of others,

be able to relate well to adult learners, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in

accordance with the Adult Education Program’s educational standards and

philosophy. Professional development opportunities will be made available.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

1. Supporting ESL or GED instructors with instruction in class that may include

one-on-one assistance, guiding/leading conversations, small group tutoring

2. Assisting with student orientation

3. Assisting students with referrals and resources

4. Treating all clients with dignity and respect.

5. Attend staff meetings and recommended training programs.

6. Maintaining confidentiality about students, their families, and other employees

outside the agency.

7. Helping with the operations of audio/visual aids (projectors, etc)

The Ripley House Community Center is looking for committed volunteers interested in serving as the first point of contact for neighbors and staff, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment. Responsibilities include greeting guests, answering phone calls, directing inquiries, and providing general administrative support.

Key Responsibilities:

We use WordPress to tell the story of our mission and activities on our website. We are looking for someone with deeper skills than ours to help us refresh our pages. 

Participate in a hands-on volunteer session where you'll support individuals as they format, edit, and review their resumes using a template provided by our Job Readiness Training Instructor. Volunteers will offer one-on-one guidance to help participants highlight their skills, experience, and accomplishments in a clear and professional way, ensuring they leave with a polished resume that’s ready for job applications. No professional HR experience required, just a willingness to help others succeed!

In this interactive volunteer session, you'll help individuals prepare for job interviews by conducting mock interviews using a question template and evaluation form provided by our Job Readiness Training Instructor. Volunteers will offer constructive feedback on interview responses, body language, and professionalism to help participants build confidence and improve their interviewing skills. No prior hiring experience is necessary, just a desire to support others on their path to employment!

This garden started in 1989 is situated on two acres and located in Kashmere Gardens. It features a wash station, a composting facility, and 100 beds that last year provided over 9,000 pounds of organically grown produce to the community. The large garden gives volunteers and clients the opportunity to grow nutritious organic produce to benefit themselves, their neighbors, and Target Hunger food pantries. All of the produce will be distributed to families in need of food assistance.

Volunteers are needed to help our garden continue to grow! 

Both individuals and teams who volunteer in the gardens may assist in many ways such as: building garden beds, turning soil, weeding, planting, watering, harvesting, maintenance, and special projects. We schedule volunteers Tuesday through Friday from 9am to noon. *No weekend opportunities.

Activities:

Food Fairs:Volunteers will then be assigned to one of the task needed at the site like client intake, packing produce in individual distribution bags and putting the food in the clients cars.

Other Information:

All volunteers that have not volunteered in the last year must to fill out a volunteer application (CLICK HERE) they also must sign a waiver on site at the location.

In order to protect the health and safety of staff, volunteers and those we serve, Target Hunger has changed our “Educational Food Fairs” to “Drive through distributions” with food being loaded in car trunks as well as enhanced safety protocols. In addition we are using the 6 foot Social Distancing rule and encouraging everyone to where gloves and wash their hands. We also will not have more than 10 volunteers volunteering at a time.

Volunteers will arrive on site, usually before 9am.  Food Fairs are about 3 to 4 hours long and break down can take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes.

Our Case Management Team provides invaluable one-on-one and group counseling services to survivors, and the addition of art therapy to the mix would be incredible! Art, in its many mediums, can be used to help clients communicate, overcome stress, and help them better understand their feelings and behavior.

So, if you are a licensed art therapist who wants to contribute your skills as a volunteer to help trafficking survivors, we’d love to hear from you!

Every day, we hear more worrisome news about the COVID-19 pandemic. Target Hunger is proud to assist our registered families and seniors during this trying time. Volunteers are requested to arrive on site before 9am. They will be assigned to a task such as packing produce in individual distribution bags and/or placing food in car trunks.

Target Hunger is ramping up food distributions to ensure our neighbors receive much needed food. Many people have lost fridges full of food due to power outages, have limited water, and now have unexpected expenses due to broken pipes and other damage.

Target Hunger had to close many of its brick-and-mortar pantries due to COVID-19. We began delivering prepackaged boxes of food to our client's homes, in partnership with Door Dash. This partnership with Door Dash is coming to an end so we are trying to switch our clients over to our mobile pantries. Staff has expressed the need of volunteers specifically on Tuesdays usually from 9am to 11am. Volunteers in the pantry will help pantry staff guide client's shopping, the restocking of the mobile pantry, and assist clients to their cars. Bilingual preferred. Prefer a reoccurring volunteer.

Come volunteer as an individual or a team at a Target Hunger Food Fair!

Food Fairs are pop-up food distributions completely open to the public. These fairs prioritize fresh produce, serving an average of 150 to 220 households at each event. Volunteers play a vital role in the success of these events by setting up tents, repackaging bulk produce, and distributing the goods directly to clients. These events are particularly rewarding because volunteers can see the immediate impact of their efforts, making a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.

These events occur from 8 am - 11 am at different sites throughout the Northeast Houston area:

The AIP BIPOC Network is seeking volunteers to represent our organization at health fairs, expos, and local events. You’ll help staff our table, share information about our programs, take photos, and engage with community members. Your work will directly support our mission to improve the quality of life of the BIPOC Autoimmune Community through Awareness, Advocacy, Action, Assessment, and Alignment. 

Tasks:

Staff ABN’s booth/table at community events

Share information and resources with attendees

Take event photos for social media and reports

Assist with setup and cleanup as needed

Engage community members in a welcoming, approachable way

Time Commitment:

Come and volunteer at the Target Hunger Food Pantry on Senior Pantry Day!

Volunteers will assist with checking in clients, clients while they shop, keep the shelves stocked, and properly weigh client's groceries. Our pantry staff needs assistance on the first and third Tuesday from 8 am - 12 pm at the Denver Harbor Multi-Service Center Target Hunger food pantry. A reoccurring volunteer is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish is also preferred, but not necessary.

MEN Incorporated is searching for dependable male mentors to engage school age young men during the school day and after school. Mentors must pass background checks and be available during the school day. 

CrossWalk Center needs a volunteer or a team of volunteers to help prepare a daily hot meal for the residents of our halfway houses. We are blessed to receive food donations each week, and with the help of volunteer house chefs, we can make the most of those gifts. The 24 men living at our halfway houses are just beginning their transition back into society after incarceration. As they are adjusting to their new job, new home, new friends, and new lives, preparing a hot, healthy meal can become a priority that slips through the cracks.

Our house chefs bless our residents with a home-cooked meal each day after work. It is our hope that individuals or teams could come into our halfway houses and prepare a meal from the donations we have already received. We don't require any professional experience, we just need willing hands and a servant's heart. Our homes are equipped with fully stocked residential kitchens, so you won't need to use your own cookware. For your convenience, volunteers can come during the day to prepare the food, leaving it in the warmer or the fridge until dinner, or come on the weekends, meal prep in bulk, and leave individual containers in the freezer.

Our clients really need your help! UAHT has community resources we can connect clients to but, those aren’t direct connections, and we would prefer to expedite legal processes for them.
