Volunteer: Volunteer Online as a Conversation PartnerReady to change a life from the comfort of home? Join ENGin as a conversation partner and be matched with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one-on-one English conversations. In just one hour a week, you can help someone build confidence, break the language barrier, and feel supported, all while discovering a new culture and making a genuine human connection. We’ll pair you up with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one hour videochats at times that are convenient for you. During your conversations, you’ll facilitate English practice for your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and offer an empathetic, authentic space for connection. Our only requirements for volunteers are English fluency, a strong internet connection, and the ability to commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 12 weeks. No prior tutoring experience or knowledge of Ukrainian language is needed to volunteer with ENGin. We offer ample training resources, session materials, and total flexibility to customize your sessions to fit your/your partner’s goals and preferences. Our friendly team is available to support you throughout your time with us. Since our launch in 2020, ENGin has matched over 32,000 volunteers with Ukrainians for authentic English-language connection across borders, and we continue to grow every day. 99% of our learners report feeling they were able to break the language barrier as a participant in our program, and 79% of our participants form lasting friendships. We're incredibly proud of these results, and we can't wait to welcome you into this global community of volunteers making them possible. Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience. "I made a friend in Ukraine and we are teaching each other about our culture, our language, and our humor. We're even trading dad jokes! Both of us look forward to our chats and have a hard time wrapping it up." “Fantastic organization doing great work. So happy to be a small part of it. My partner and I have worked together for two years and have become good friends! Her English has become better, and I have become more knowledgeable about Ukraine!” "This program has been, I think, life-changing for both of us. I really consider her more like my daughter right now. That's how close we have become!" Ready to Get Started? Volunteer: Come Hide from Search Dogs - Jack Brooks ParkWe are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out! You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. All high school students or older are welcome to participate. Feel free to view our website to see what we are about: www.AlphaSar.org. A confirmation email will be sent after sign-up to confirm your volunteer slot. A waiver will be attached. Any participants under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer time. Volunteer: Volunteer for Action For HappinessJoin Us in Making a Difference: Our volunteers inspire positive change that ripples outwards
Do you want to see more happiness and kindness in the world? We’re looking for dynamic Volunteers to be part of creating exactly that! CLICK TO ACCESS OUR VOLUNTEER TRAINING: https://actionforhappiness.org/volunteer-training?utm=AD-VH About the Role: Our volunteers bring people together for shared learning experiences, based on positive psychology, that boost the wellbeing of everyone involved. - The amazing 6-week Happiness Habits course is designed to be run by pairs of volunteers like you. It features expert videos, science-backed exercises and the chance to form meaningful connections. It is a very impactful (many say life-changing) experience. - If running a 6-week course feels like too big of a first step, don't worry, you can also get involved by supporting a monthly group (they are a little bit less formal, while still having a huge positive impact!). Do something that matters: spreading happiness and witnessing people transform for the better is a huge source of meaning.Grow your skills: inspiring others, learning together and reinforcing your own happiness skills all contribute to personal growth.Build community: meeting like-minded people, building lasting friendships and belonging to a global community contributing to a better future for all.How do I know it’s right for me? Volunteer: Build connections between the Little Free Library organization and independent booksellersAs a part of our mission to build community and increase book access, we’ve begun connecting stewards with their local booksellers through the LFL-Friendly Bookseller’s Directory. A crucial piece of this project is to reach out and ask booksellers to offer benefits to stewards, such as discounts, book donations, or event space discounts for meetups. We need your help to share information with booksellers about how they can support their local LFL stewards! How to get started: Sign up on our volunteer website. If it's your first time volunteering with Team LFL, you will be asked to create an account in our volunteer hub. After you register, you will be instructed to compile a list of local booksellers you’d like to visit and submit it to us. After we receive your list, we will send you a packet of materials to distribute while you’re visiting the booksellers . Purpose: By helping connect Little Free Library stewards to local booksellers, you are helping to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access. Responsibilities: Visit local booksellers (5 minimum, but can visit as many as you'd like) to drop off information packet on the bookseller’s directory Be polite and courteous when visiting the bookseller - wait in line to speak to a staff member, don’t be pushy, encourage them to review the information and contact LFL with any questions. Create a list of local booksellers that you plan to visit. Check the existing map to see which booksellers are already listed - you don’t need to go to any that are already listed! Use booksellers’ associations (MIBA, CALIBA, etc.) to find booksellers near you (if you don’t already know them!) Visit bookstores, use the provided Excel template to record who you’ve visited, and submit sheet to us via Givepulse. As an incentive for completing this volunteer opportunity, you will be entered in a giveaway to receive a $50 gift card to the local bookseller of your choice. Record your impact using Givepulse. Time Required: A typical visit to a bookseller lasts about five to ten minutes, plus travel to and from, as well as time spent beforehand to research local booksellers. Training & Resources Available: We will help you get to know our organization and share tips to find local booksellers near you. Qualifications: Already a part of the Little Free Library network - either an LFL steward or Team LFL volunteerLove Little Free Libraries and supporting book access!Have access to transportation to visit local booksellersOrganizedGreat communication skillsPolite and friendlyAgency: Little Free Library As a part of our mission to build community and increase book access, we’ve begun connecting stewards with their local booksellers through the LFL-Friendly Bookseller’s Directory. Volunteer: Dog Behavior & Enrichment VolunteersAt Friends For Life, every animal matters. Founded in 2002, Friends For Life introduced the first no-kill shelter model to Houston – saving animals regardless of their breed, age or condition. Houston-grown, we’re here to help our neighbors care for the pets they love. We’re not finished until every animal has a safe home. Until then, we’ll be innovating, improving and tracking results to find the most effective ways to save lives. As a dog behavior volunteer, you will work hand-in-hand with our behavior staff and learn how to work with the dogs in our program. The dogs that live at the shelter are dogs that we have not been able to get out into a foster home due to reactivity that needs to be managed. This could include an array of behaviors. Maybe they're afraid of other dogs, or scared of loud trucks outside. We will fully train you on dog body language, enrichment, and reactivity so you are able to safely work with these dogs to help rehabilitate them and in turn find their forever homes! This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity that other shelters don't offer. If you truly love dogs and want to learn more about how to care for them, this opportunity is for you!As a dog behavior volunteer, you will help provide various enrichment needs to our dogs (think kongs and nose work!). Enrichment volunteers are essential to help improve the daily lives of our dogs at the shelter.* Our Behavior volunteer program is a five-step program, and you'll start out as a BV1 volunteer (behavior volunteer - level 1). Our behavior program is truly one-of-a-kind. You'll learn such much, like how animals communicate, different types of enrichment, how to read body language, learning theory, and so much more. Current Behavior Dog Volunteer shifts from from 2-5PM every day - including weekends. Sign up today to help our dogs get the socialization and enrichment that they deserve! PLEASE NOTE, ONCE YOU HAVE REGISTERED YOUR INTEREST YOU WILL NEED TO WAIT TO BE CONTACTED BY A MEMBER OF OUR VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENT WHO WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH THE TRAINING NEEDED. VOLUNTEERS CANNOT SHOW UP AT THE SHELTER TO VOLUNTEER UNTIL THEY ARE REGISTERED ON OUR SYSTEM. Note - This need is ongoing. Please disregard the "runs until" date attached to this need.
