FWP usually sponsors 7 community work days annually (Jan, Feb, Mar, April, Sept, Oct, Nov) plus Earth Day (corporate weekday event, April). Scout projects may also require support. Friends of Woodland Park is an all volunteer organization and this is a volunteer opportunity. Expectations: Cleanups are generally held on Saturday mornings, with occasional weekday cleanups for corporate groups. With help from the Green Team Leads and FWP board, team members will identify supplies and tools needed using provided checklists. Supplies generally include FWP Flags, canopy, info kit, table cloth, gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, water coolers and cups, snacks, first aid kit, bug spray and hand sanitizer. The donation center is open from 9 am - 3 pm, Monday through Saturday. Most volunteers start off working 3-4 hours, once per week. All sales in the resale store will benefit Cypress Assistance Ministries. CAM is a 501c3 non-profit which provides assistance to the Cy-Fair community. We provide rent and utility assistance, maintain a food pantry, provide job hunting resources, and have many other programs to benefit our community. Volunteer: Food Donation Pick-up DriversCypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) is partnering with some area grocery stores to help provide food for our food pantry. We just need some helpful individuals to pick up the donations from these retailers and help deliver them to CAM's facility. Programs like this are wonderful resources for CAM, as they help us source items that would be otherwise difficult to source (such as bakery items and produce), and they help reduce food waste in our community. Volunteers must have access to a vehicle suitable for transporting food items (an SUV or minivan would work perfectly, a sedan with sufficient trunk space would work as well). Volunteer: Docents to lead School Groups & Hikes on the TrailsOur Volunteer Docent Program is a volunteer level that can be reached by individuals that are interested in having a more autonomous experience representing the Arboretum and our missions. All Docent activities require onboarding, additional trainings, training time as a 'Shadow' to learn from current Docents and Arboretum Staff, and a commitment of at least 20 Docent specific volunteer hours a year. Examples of Docent opportunities include working as Guide for our Field Trip Experiences, leading guided nature hikes, leading night hikes, outreach, and more. This is an ongoing opportunity that would require you onboarding as an Arboretum Volunteer and signing up for opportunities through our own volunteer portal.
