Needs From: Volunteer Houston

Join us for an outdoor, on-farm work day!

Come ready to work and get dirty! Volunteers will help farmers and PIF Volunteer Farm Stewards with farm tasks like weeding and mulching. Volunteers are asked to bring their own water and dress appropriately for the weather. Close-toed shoes are required. We recommend wearing:

long pants and long socks - in all weather. Beware of fire ants!
sunscreen and a hat, as needed
rain gear (poncho, jacket), as needed

Answer any questions they may have about their Farmshare or PIF

Redirect them to online resources for information

Corporate Events: The Urban Farm Experience

The Urban Farm Experience is the perfect team building opportunity for groups that have been working remotely for the past year or for those who want to take a break from the computer and bring your group out to the field! During your visit, your team will experience sustainability in action by participating in a project on one of PIF’s farms that will ultimately help create a green, healthy and vibrant Houston. Use this opportunity to initiate sustainability conversations with your team while learning about sustainable agriculture and food systems from PIF farmers and local experts.

We typically work with groups of 10-70 members, but please inquire to see if we can accommodate your larger group. This event can be customized to best meet your group’s needs. Please reach out to learn more.

 

During your Urban Farm Experience, your group will:

Be ‘farmers-for-a-day’ and get their hands dirty while working together to complete a fun project in the field

Participate in a Q&A to learn more about sustainable agriculture and Houston’s food system from local experts

Experiential & Service Learning What We Offer Your Students We invite your students to join PIF in creating a just food system. When students visit our farms they engage in local agriculture while exploring the unique environment of the Texas Gulf Coast. In addition, your students  will come away from their PIF experience with a better understanding of who a refugee is and how new American families serve Houston.   We work with students sixth grade through college. Our professional staff will work with you to craft a service learning experience that fits the needs of your students and your curriculum. Depending on your interests, our team can lead sessions on topics ranging from the science of how plants grow to the politics that shape our food system.
