Volunteer: Got Fix-It Skills? Help Power Houston’s Nonprofits

The Houston Community ToolBank keeps thousands of tools in motion; powering projects, supporting nonprofits, and strengthening our city every single day. With all that impact, some wear and tear is bound to happen!

That’s where you come in. We’re looking for a dependable Tool Maintenance Volunteer to help repair and maintain tools so they can get right back out into the community where they’re needed most

Equipment you may work on:

Generators

Power washers

Lawnmowers

Tillers

Other small engine equipment

Typical tasks include:

Carburetor cleaning and repair

Replacing spark plugs

Diagnosing issues and swapping worn or broken parts

General small engine maintenance

Time Commitment:
Flexible! Ideally once a week or every other week, depending on your availability.

What you’ll need:

Closed-toe shoes

Work clothes

Whether you’re a seasoned mechanic or someone who enjoys tuning engines and solving mechanical problems, we’d love your help. Any skill level is welcome, and your work helps keep vital tools in the hands of nonprofits that need them most.

Are you handy with basic woodworking tools? Do you want to make a direct impact in your community?

The Houston ToolBank is seeking reliable and enthusiastic volunteers to help with wood cutting and preparation for our build projects, including picnic tables, garden beds, and other community-enhancing structures.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of our Wood Cutting & Prep Crew, you will:

Use tools like table saws and miter saws to make accurate, basic cuts

Prepare lumber and materials needed for builds

Help organize and stage cut pieces for crew use

Assist with light cleanup around the workspace

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome volunteers who:

Are comfortable using or willing to learn basic woodworking tools

Can follow safety guidelines and work well as part of a team

Are dependable and ready to help bring projects to life

Previous experience is a plus but not required

Time Commitment

Flexible volunteer shifts available between open hours (Monday-Friday 9am-4pm)

Typical sessions are 2–4 hours
