Volunteer: Holiday Administrative Support - Helping seniors, refugees and interfaith programmingCan you help Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (IM) thank it's supporters? Houstonians are so generous that we need extra help keeping track of the donations that are sent in and help getting the thank you letters out as quickly as we can during the holiday season! IM feeds 4,000 seniors every day through Meals on Wheels, helps welcome refugee families into their new lives and organizes interfaith programming. We could use help making copies, stuffing letters and other light administrative support. Help with data entry is also needed, but not required. We are also very flexible with hours. If you could help between 2-10 hours a week until the New Year, that would really help!! The work does need to be done onsite in our office in Midtown. Parking is really easy! Volunteer: Social Media Guru for our 2021 Virtual March for Marrow TX 5K Run & WalkAs patients and family members we are so busy taking care of our patients - or ourselves in this period of COVID-19. In order to promote our work on our 2021 Virtual March for Marrow, which will include a Virtual 5K Run and Walk as well as an online raffle, we need a clever and committed Social Media Guru. We have a lot to learn and would love to learn from younger, smarter and more clever young people from the Houston area. In addition, we are trying to go paperless – although we do have a great flier featuring our 2021 Star, Nicholas Smith, who just went through a bone marrow transplant. We are open to advice as to how best to use it. But it seems social media is the best way to go. Our 2021 VIRTUAL March for Marrow 5K Run & Walk will run for 7 days from Saturday, March 27 to Saturday, April 3, 2021. Our schedule for Saturday, 3/27/2021, Sunday, 3/28/2021, and Saturday, 4/3/2021, will run for about 2 hours, 9:00 am to 10:30 or 11:00 am. Monday, 3/29/2021 to Friday, 4/2/2021, will only be 1 hour – perhaps 1 ½ hours. There will be the Kick-Off including sounding the start of the 5k and Patient and Family Walk – complete with selfies. We will have a couple of doctors speak and a couple of patients telling their stories. We hope to attract a couple of high school groups – bands and or a cheerleading squad – all with proper social distancing. On Saturday, April 3, we will hold our Moment of Remembrance and Closing Ceremonies, catch up with our 5K Runners and have them log in their times and announce our Top Fundraisers and our Raffle WINNERS! Volunteer: Hammers and Ales Committee Members Needed!Do you enjoy planning events?
The Houston Community Toolbank is seeking 10-20 energetic, dependable, flexible volunteers to assist with our major fundraising Event - Hammers and Ales - to be held on April 4th, 2019. We are looking to meet 4 times between now and then 4th of April.
Description of Hammers & Ales
Hammers and Ales is a Happy Hour style event with live music at Karbach Brewery on April 4th 2019. In addition to a selection of craft beer, ticket holders will enjoy heavy bites, a silent auction, a cornhole tournament and a raffle. This year, the event will move downstairs to the new Bier Garten area to accommodate an expected crowd of 400 plus attendees and will include live music from Eagles tribute band Already Gone. All event proceeds will go to our nonprofit tool lending program that supports thousands of community programs throughout the region each year.
Mission
Houston Community ToolBank is a nonprofit tool lending program that empowers fellow nonprofits to tackle community-based projects throughout our region. Toolbank borrowers are not only mainstream nonprofits, but also schools, faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations and many others. Whether a project has ten volunteers or three hundred, access to ToolBank inventory relieves the burden of purchasing, storing, maintaining and repairing the items essential to projects and events. In a sector that consistently faces constraints of time, personnel and budget, our tools allow organizations to achieve their visions for thriving community.
Committee Job Descriptions
Committee members can expect to help with the overall layout of the event. Each committee member will be able to choose to help with tasks based on their interests and skills. You may be assigned to a particular subset of the committee tasked with a particular focus. These may include things like: giving input to event layout, helping with preparation of event games and activities, exploring your network for potential sponsorships or silent auction donations, generating ideas for the promotion of the event to a broader audience, spreading the word to friends and family and many other tasks as they arise. In addition, each volunteer will receive two tickets (one for themselves and one for the guest) to attend the Hammers & Ales event on April 4th, 2019. Volunteer: Volunteer House ChefCrossWalk Center needs a volunteer or a team of volunteers to help prepare a daily hot meal for the residents of our halfway houses. We are blessed to receive food donations each week, and with the help of volunteer house chefs, we can make the most of those gifts. The 24 men living at our halfway houses are just beginning their transition back into society after incarceration. As they are adjusting to their new job, new home, new friends, and new lives, preparing a hot, healthy meal can become a priority that slips through the cracks. Our house chefs bless our residents with a home-cooked meal each day after work. It is our hope that individuals or teams could come into our halfway houses and prepare a meal from the donations we have already received. We don't require any professional experience, we just need willing hands and a servant's heart. Our homes are equipped with fully stocked residential kitchens, so you won't need to use your own cookware. For your convenience, volunteers can come during the day to prepare the food, leaving it in the warmer or the fridge until dinner, or come on the weekends, meal prep in bulk, and leave individual containers in the freezer.
