MENtorUP is a Saturday mentoring program designed to connect middle and high school young men with positive male role models who can guide, encourage, and inspire them.

Through group discussions, life skills sessions, and shared experiences, mentors help young men develop character, confidence, and a vision for their future. Our sessions include practical topics such as responsibility, leadership, career readiness, and healthy relationships—paired with fun activities like sports, field trips, college trips, retreats, and community service projects.

By showing up consistently, mentors build trust and provide the encouragement these young men need to navigate school, relationships, and life beyond the classroom.

We are looking for followers of Jesus who love soccer and are passionate about helping kids develop strong life skills and values. We provide free soccer practice at various local schools in Alief ISD Monday-Thursday 5:00-6:30pm. As a volunteer, you would be working with the head coach to follow the provided practice curriculum. The curriculum guides you through warm ups, soccer technique, drills, and activities. The unique thing about our program is that all of our soccer sessions are based around a Bible story and life value. We use soccer as a tool to instill valuable life lessons about character and personal development into the players. This is why we request that applicants be strongly committed to their Christian faith, because as a coach, you are also a role model. Help refugees take the first step toward U.S. citizenship by joining our team as a Civics Outreach Volunteer. 

In this role, you’ll make phone calls to clients to share information about our free civics classes, which help prepare adults for the citizenship exam. Your calls help ensure more people can access the resources they need to succeed. 

As a volunteer, you will: 

You don’t need to speak another language or have prior experience—just a welcoming attitude and a desire to support others on their citizenship journey. If you do speak a language like Spanish, Dari, Pashto, Arabic, or Urdu, that’s a wonderful bonus!

Volunteer shifts available Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Training and scripts are provided. 

Be the first point of contact as guest arrive to visit at our main office.  Other duties will include, copying, folding, adding postage to mail out, answering the business telephone.

Alzheimer's Association Support Group facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia. This support group will be meeting virtually for the time being.

Note: You'll be training to serve as a co-facilitator with an experienced facilitator for a group that meets regularly.

Qualifications:

· Ability to be empathetic and separate personal needs from group needs.

· Strong listening and effective communication skills.

· Ability to redirect and facilitate discussion as well as fulfill the duties and responsibilities as described in the Facilitator Agreement.

· Commitment to promote the mission and services of the Association and willingness to act as an extension of the Association.

· Experience with dementia as a family member or health care professional preferred but not mandatory.

Commitment Expected:

· Support Group Facilitators commit to a 1-year term meeting monthly.

· Orientation includes: online general volunteer orientation (1 hour) + program volunteer orientation (1 hour) + self-study or in-person role training with staff partner (~4 hours). Background checks are required as part of the volunteer selection process.

Mentors are integral partners in resettling refugees by providing extra care so that they may quickly become self-sufficient. Through weekly visits, mentors will assist refugees in realizing short-term goals while also providing an introduction to American culture and customs. Mentors are individuals that ease the transition to self-sufficiency by establishing a relationship with a refugee. A mentor’s goal is to assist a refugee in reaching self-sufficiency as quickly as possible through one-on-one guidance, advocacy, and individualized support.

Duties/Expectations-

Time Commitment- We ask that our volunteers commit to a duration of at least 4 months. Mentors and mentees should establish a more detailed schedule at their first meeting. Mentors must also attend a volunteer orientation and submit to a background check.

Your time, presence, and encouragement can make a lifelong difference. Mentoring takes place Monday through Friday around the lunch hour, offering flexibility to fit your schedule. We follow the HISD monthly character emphasis, and you’ll have access to books, crafts, and games to help foster connection.

We are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out!

You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. Astella Hospice is seeking individuals to serve as compassionate friend, offering emotional support, companionship and a listening ear to patients during their final journey. In this role, the volunteer creates a comforting presence, whether by sharing stories, listening to memories, holding a hand or simply sitting quietly. It is not about providing medical care but about being a source of kindness, connection, and understanding, bringing moments of joy and peace to the patient and their loved ones. This meaningful bond will enrich the lives of the volunteer and the patient.

Volunteers can fundraise through an event called a Salaam Supper. This can take the form of different ideas from a potluck in a home, an educational cooking class with a former refugee, or a pre-set menu tied to a specific donation ask. Become part of our completely volunteer-based outreach in high human-trafficking areas! This outreach is crucial to reaching trafficking victims and sharing the Human Trafficking National Hotline in places away from their captors or employers.

Key Responsibilities include:

-- Speaking to businesses on behalf of UAHT and victims on Saturdays as your schedule permits.

-- Displaying the National Human Trafficking Hotline number in restrooms, back offices, kitchens, and storefronts -- places away from victims' captors and/or employers.

-- Entering data after each outreach activity is completed.

All volunteers who want to become part of the Volunteer Outreach Team must complete the orientation and training. (This is separate from the Volunteer Orientation that every volunteer must attend.)

Volunteer Outreach Orientation will cover the key duties, processes, script, impact, and time commitment needed to confidently speak to businesses on behalf of UAHT and trafficking victims.

If weather permits, orientation and training will take place outdoors in a park setting, and when weather doesn't permit, we'll meet in an accommodating coffee shop.

After the Orientation and Training presentation, we will drive to nearby businesses, and each participant will get to train with an experienced volunteer who will share their knowledge of the process.

Human trafficking occurs every day in our own communities. This crime continues to grow in the shadows of our society, and is one of the largest criminal industries in the world.

Victims of trafficking are subjected to force, fraud, or coercion for the purposes of sexual exploitation and/or forced labor.

Participants in Red Sand Projects fill cracks in sidewalks with red sand, a symbolic gesture that represents those individuals who fall through the cracks -- whether the cracks of our social, economic, and political systems or those of our personal consciousness.

We at UAHT want to highlight and remember the human trafficking victims who fall through those cracks in the greater Houston area, the very ones we make an effort each day to reach and help.

Our Red Sand Projects are meant to be volunteer-led and community-wide events, so if you'd like to host a project of your own -- whether it's in your neighborhood, your favorite park, your church, or an other public setting you'd like -- we strongly encourage you to do so!

Emergency Services provides food and clothing as well as financial assistance to those in crisis. Volunteers are needed to help greet clients, answer phone inquiries, interview clients, help in the food pantry, or provide administrative assistance. We especially need bilingual (Spanish / English) volunteers.

Howdy!  We are looking for some people to join our team of volunteers that pick up from local grocery stores for us.  We receive donations from a few stores around us Monday -  Thursday.

You can either help transport the groceries and bring to the pantry, or you can help us weigh and stock the items on our shelves.  You would need to be able to lift 25lb and an SUV or truck is helpful, but not required.  We can team you up with someone who has a vehicle for transport if needed.

You can volunteer as little as once a month or more frequently as your schedule allows. A master schedule is prepared ahead of each month.

We distribute food in a curbside format every Thursday afternoon for senior clients.  Help is needed to gather the food and deliver to their cars.  You can volunteer for shifts from 10am-12pm, 12pm-2pm, or both.

Our Afghan Support Groups in Houston promote health and wellness through separate men’s and women’s groups, as well as co-ed workshops. Sessions occur 1-2 times a week for two hours and provide a space for connection, skill-building, and community support.

With the approach of fall weather beds and special gardens need to be ready for cooler weather.   There will also be organizational and maintenance tasks.   

We are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out!

You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. Our greatest need is for adult mountain bikes and hybrids with 26-inch and 700c wheels. We also need youth bikes with 24-inch wheels and 20-inch wheels.

Our refugee and veteran customers rarely ask for road bikes or beach cruisers. We do not accept used helmets, children’s bikes, scooters or tag-alongs. If it’s not economic for Freewheels to repair a donated used bike, we often reclaim parts and components that can be used on other bikes. We have partnerships with people who will take bikes we don’t plan to repair and deliver them to organizations in Mexico.

When we receive a road bike, we may try to sell it and and use the proceeds to pay for parts, supplies, safety equipment and rent.

We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and  the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Houston Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. The Houston Humane Society Pet Pantry supports Houston residents in caring for their pets by providing free pet food and supplies to those well-meaning pet owners needing assistance. We have supplied over 4 MILLION MEALS to hungry pets... and counting!

Help us by handing out pet food to pet owners in need! Meet us at the following locations and times (see link below) to assist in handing out food to the pet owners needing assistance. All events are outdoors, please wear weather-appropriate clothing. Volunteers are recommended to bring sunscreen, a hat or sunglasses, and water with them. Most events are at parks, churches, and community centers in the parking lot. Clients come in drive-thru style and we load directly from our truck to their vehicles. Volunteers may be asked to lift up to 30 pounds.

This opportunity may require a high level of activity. You may be on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time. This activity is outdoors and is subject to inclement weather such as high heat, wind, and rain. If a high chance of rain or storms is predicted, we may cancel the event and inform you.

RAMP is a career-focused program for youth with disabilities involved with or at-risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system. Volunteers will serve as support and mentors to the youth. Mentors are needed during and, once a relationship is established with youth, possibly after school if that works for both the youth and mentor. RAMP is under our High School High Tech Program, a community-based partnership of parents, educators, rehabilitation professionals and business representatives working together to encourage high school students with disabilities to explore the fields of science, engineering and technology through mentoring, job skills, transition and internships for at-risk teens with disabilities. Includes campus meetings, company tours and internships.

Mentors must be at least 21 years old. Meetings are held at a high school in downtown Houston every Monday from 1:45pm-2:30pm. Mentors are NOT required to be at every meeting but are encouraged to attend as often as their schedule allows. We also encourage checking in with mentees via email or texts.

Every youth is one caring adult away from becoming a success story. You can be that caring adult and make a difference. We hope to work with you soon as a mentor with the RAMP program.

Activities with children range from holding/rocking infants, completing puzzles, board games, and supervision while playing outside (ex. bike riding, playing basketball, playing on the playground, etc.). This volunteer opportunity may occur indoors or outdoors (weather dependent). Moms will be attending their TC meetings from 7:00-8:15 PM on Tuesday evenings, so volunteers are asked to arrive at 6:45 PM to facilitate drop-off before TC. This shift will end at approximately 8:30 PM, once all moms have finished with their meeting and have arrived to pick up their children. Individual volunteers must be age 16 or older to sign up. Youth volunteers (ages 15 and younger) are welcome to volunteer along with their families but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Hospice volunteers provide a variety of direct and indirect services to patients and their families. Visits to provide companionship, caregiver relief, errands, music therapy, pet therapy, and other services are examples of direct services. Phone calls, pen-pals, and special projects like blanket crafting are examples of indirect services. Volunteers can also get involved with administrative support by assisting in the office.

What hospice volunteer does is determined by their abilities and interests.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about our mission and eager to help the organization as we move forward. The Board Secretary is a key role to the overall effectiveness of the beyWIsee Foundation.

- Quarterly meetings

- Special monthly meetings leading up to events

- All meetings are held remotely

Experience Level:
- Previous board experience is not required

- Administrative experience is preferred, but not required

This is a great opportunity to gain first-hand non-profit board experience for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

Meeting Management:

Schedule board meetings, prepare and distribute agendas and supporting documents, and ensure meetings run efficiently. 

Record Keeping:

Accurately record minutes of board meetings, including discussions, decisions, and action items. 

Communication:

Ensure effective and timely communication among board members and other stakeholders. 

Official Documents:

Maintain and organize official organizational records, such as bylaws and board member rosters, ensuring they are accessible. 

Governance Support:

Play a crucial role in supporting the board's overall governance and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

ABOUT SUMMERHOUSE HOUSTON

Summerhouse offers community-based day services and supported employment services to adults with IDD. Members of our day services spend time in the community volunteering and participating in social activities, classes, exercise, and more in a low member-to-staff ratio.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

The program volunteer’s primary role is to support program design and implementation for Summerhouse Houston (SHH) members. The volunteer works closely with program staff to oversee creative, customized programming daily to provide high quality and impactful program services. If you or your team would like to work directly with our young adults, this is for you! Participate in our social and vocational activities and support members in achieving their goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

1. 18+

2. Pass a background check

3. Reliable transportation preferred, volunteers need to be able to get to Summerhouse Houston or the location of the activity independently. If the volunteer does not have own transportation and meets at Summerhouse Houston, then he/she would need to participate in activities in which there is available space in Summerhouse Houston vans/cars

4. Maintain regular communication via text or email with Summerhouse Houston staff

5. Highly flexible and demonstrate patience as plans and ideas evolve to meet the needs of members

6. Outgoing, a creative thinker, and willing to actively engage with young adults of varying abilities

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:

1. Previous experience and/or passion for working with person with IDD/autism

2. Able to pass background check

3. Able to lift up to 50lbs

TRAINING:

Initial training and orientation will be provided, as well as additional support and training to be developed as the program grows.

TIME COMMITMENT:

A commitment to at least 1 daytime/weekday activity per semester (fall, spring, or summer); 2-3 hours/week is preferred.

Volunteer opportunities at our Resale Store include assisting customers, operating the cash register, helping the cashier, or organizing and restocking the store. As a Warehouse volunteer, you would help sort and price incoming donations in one of our most needed areas. 

The sales from MAM's Resale Store & Boutique bring in over $2 million each year, supporting more than 20% of MAM’s budget. This funding helps us partner with hardworking Houstonians to build hope, stability, and well-being through education, employment, resources, and relationships.

If you're compassionate, fluent in English, and can volunteer a couple times per week, we want YOU to help a group of Houston adults learn to speak English. You'll meet some amazing people, experience the joy and fulfillment of helping others succeed, and know that you're making Houston a better place for us all.

Classes meet in-person Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, and volunteers are especially needed 9am - 11am and 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

NO prior teaching experience or second language is required. If this volunteer opportunity is for you, we'll train you, match you with a group of adult learners, and support you as you get started on the exciting and hugely rewarding activity of helping your neighbors learn English as a second (or third!) language (ESL).

Calling people of all faiths or no faith at all in Houston to care for our shared environment!  We will engage in hands-on environmental stewardship at the Willow Waterhole Conservation Reserve, with a variety of hands-on tasks suitable for all ages & skill levels. Meet at 11350 Ricecrest by the Oak tree in the park to sign in. Metro bus line 7 stops right nearby.  Tools/supplies will be provided. This event is organized by Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston, in partnership with the Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy.  The conservancy requires signing of a waiver to participate - see this link:

Overview:
We are seeking caring and enthusiastic volunteers to provide childcare and host engaging activities for children on our campus while their parents participate in our LifeSkills classes. This role offers a unique opportunity to create a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for children, giving parents the ability to focus fully on learning and personal growth.

Responsibilities:

Supervise and engage with children in a safe and positive manner

Plan and lead age-appropriate activities (games, crafts, reading, etc.)

Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere

Maintain a safe environment by following agency guidelines and child safety protocols

Communicate any needs or concerns to program staff

Qualifications:

Enjoy working with children and families

Reliable, responsible, and patient

Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures

Willingness to complete required background checks, fingerprinting, and TB test (provided by PCHAS at no cost)

Time Commitment:
LifeSkills classes typically take place once a month, with each session lasting approximately 2 hours. Volunteers may commit to one or more sessions per month.

Your time and attention help create a positive experience for children, while supporting their parents’ growth and success in the LifeSkills program.
