Volunteer: Volunteer bike mechanic -- put your skills to workIf you know how to fix a bike, Freewheels Houston needs you. Our volunteers repair donated bikes that go to refugees, veterans and young people from low-income families in Houston — people who depend on these bikes to get to work and school. Last year our mechanics repaired and distributed more than 640 bikes. The bottleneck is always skilled hands. Our shop is well equipped with tools, parts and a repair checklist developed with input from a master bike technician. If you know most bike systems — drivetrain, shifting, brakes, wheels and tires, handlebars and steering — you will be repairing bikes on your first visit. If you're still building your skills, our experienced volunteers are generous with what they know. Before your first shift, please complete our waiver: https://freewheelshouston.org/volunteer-consent/. Agency: Freewheels Houston If you know how to fix a bike, Freewheels Houston needs you. Agency: Project C.U.R.E. Volunteering as an Individual at Project C.U.R.E. Houston About Us
WHAT do volunteers do? Our volunteers help with all aspects of our life-saving operation. Volunteers sort donated medical supplies, prepare shipments, help manage our warehouse, and even work with our hospital partners to procure supplies. We also have volunteers who drive out to make scheduled donation pick-ups, test and repair medical equipment at all levels of expertise, help with fundraising and outreach, plan events, and assist with administrative needs. We do not require any experience or medical background and will teach you everything you need to know. With that said, we do love nurses and medical professionals! Engineers are also extremely valuable to us.
HOW do I register? New volunteers must create a profile online prior to volunteering. Go to www.projectcure.org Select “Volunteer” then “Find a Location” then “Houston” and finally “Volunteer as an Individual” Alternatively, you may start here: https://projectcure.volunteerhub.com/lp/houston/ Sign up for any available shift that suits your schedule. You can then log in using your user id/password to sign up for future individual volunteer sessions. *Minimum age to volunteer is 15. Volunteers under 18 will be prompted to print a release form for their parent/guardian to sign. They must bring the signed form when they come to the warehouse. This release expires at the end of each calendar year so an updated release may be needed.
