Everyone is welcome to participate in Shamba Days. You’ll help with whatever the farm may need... mulching, weeding, planting, harvesting, and more!

Shamba Ya Amani, the Farm of Peace, is working for justice by feeding our community, both body and soul. We feed the body by growing vegetables and fruit, raising honeybees, and tending flowers. We feed the soul by building this farm together, forming a connection to each other and to the earth we are cultivating.

Bring a bottle of water and wear long pants and closed-toe shoes or boots!

There is parking along the street and a Metro bus station nearby at Beechnut and Dairy View Lane. Look for our white circle sign near the street and a sunflower mural as you approach the entrance of the farm.

All minors under the age of 16 must complete a release form in order to volunteer.

Woodland Park is the second-oldest park in Houston and is a designated City of Houston nature preserve.  Friends of Woodland Park (FWP) and SPLASh are cohosting a cleanup event to clear trails, rid the park of trash and debris and refresh the butterfly and firefly gardens.

FWP volunteers annually remove over 10,000 pounds of trash from the Nature Preserve, which includes Little White Park Bayou. 

We will provide gloves, trash bags, bug spray, snacks and water. 

Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes that can get dirty. 

Restrooms are available on-site in the Community Center starting at 10 a.m. 

Parking is available on site and on nearby neighborhood streets.

We'll also refresh the butterfly and firefly gardens.

FWP volunteers annually remove over 10,000 pounds of trash from the Nature Preserve that collects along the bayou following Houston's heavy rains.

FWP will provide gloves, trash bags, bug spray, snacks and water.

Our volunteers help us maintain the park and the environment through a variety of task which include removing invasive plants and weeds, providing protection and retaining moisture by spreading mulch, cleaning trails and trail lights, planting donated trees or vegetation in season, and maintaining wildflower and prairie area, and other habits and food sources for our native insects and wildlife.

We cover 4 1/2 miles of Buffal.o Bayou from Shepherd Dr. to Austin St. (downtown) and several new spaces in Buffalo Bayou East. The closest parking and meeting location information will be sent in the project email once the project is assigned

Help Grow the Next Coastal Forest

Join us on July 2 for a special EcoCenter nursery day for a unique behind-the-scenes opportunity to contribute to a long-term restoration effort.

We need your help to prepare specialized "Cone-tainers" for native trees destined for a beneficial-use dredge material island restoration project. These containers designed to encourage the development of deep tap roots while maximizing nursery space and efficiency.

This project will support several thousand trees over the next few years. Our first iteration will be 1500 with an aim to produce 7,000 from start to finish.

We’ll be offering snacks and cold treats to keep you comfortable.

As a Nursery Volunteer, you will:

Since 1968, Magnificat Houses, Inc has housed more than 20,000 adults experiencing homelessness and served over 10 million meals through our Loaves & Fishes soup kitchen (currently paused), residential homes and day programs in a healing community. We don’t offer drop-in volunteering. CTBT Vacation Bible School Volunteers Needed Chosen To Be Transparent Church (CTBT) is looking for 10 caring and dependable volunteers to help make our "Knees To Know" Vacation Bible School a success!

Volunteer roles include: Youth Engagement Team – Guide children safely between activities and help maintain a positive environment. Classroom Support – Assist teachers with materials, attendance, and student engagement (no teaching required). Hospitality Team – Prepare and serve snacks/meals and help with food distribution. The Bridge Pantry is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and organized volunteer to assist individuals and families with accessing public benefits and community resources.

The Volunteer Benefits & Resource Navigator will receive training to help clients prepare for resource appointments, understand application requirements, gather needed documents, and follow up on applications for programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare, food assistance, utility assistance, housing resources, transportation assistance, and other community services.

The ideal volunteer is patient, compassionate, organized, and comfortable speaking with people who may be experiencing financial hardship or other difficult circumstances.

The Bridge Pantry is seeking college students and young adults who need volunteer service hours and would like to gain experience supporting a nonprofit community organization.

Summer Volunteer Interns will assist with light administrative, marketing, media, and community outreach assignments. Volunteers will work under the direction of pantry leadership and will receive instructions and support for each assigned project.

This opportunity is ideal for college students, recent graduates, and young adults who need volunteer hours or want practical experience in nonprofit administration, communications, marketing, media, or community service.

This is a flexible, short-term summer opportunity. Volunteers may serve several hours per week based on their availability and the needs of the pantry.

The Volunteer Fundraising & Food Drive Coordinator will work directly with pantry leadership to develop fundraising opportunities, coordinate community food drives, and build relationships with local businesses, churches, schools, civic groups, and other community organizations.

The ideal volunteer is organized, dependable, comfortable communicating by phone and email, and willing to take initiative. Experience in fundraising, event planning, sales, marketing, nonprofit work, or community outreach is helpful but not required.

Approximately 3–5 hours per week, with additional availability around scheduled food drives or fundraising events. Some outreach and administrative responsibilities may be completed remotely, while food drives and pantry events may require in-person participation in Missouri City.

All fundraising activities, sponsorship requests, and donation campaigns must be approved by pantry leadership. Monetary donations must be processed through The Bridge Pantry’s authorized donation channels. Volunteers will not personally collect, hold, deposit, or manage donated funds.

At our monthly food distributions, volunteers sort, assemble, and distribute grocery items for drive-thru clients. Volunteers may also help by assisting clients with the intake forms.

This is the perfect opportunity for volunteers who can work quickly and carry up to thirty pounds of food.

Our food fairs take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

When you arrive, you may park in any space in the lot. Many of our clients will already be lined up around the building. You will find our staff and volunteers carrying supplies from the food pantry located in Suite B-101.

The Social Justice Learning Institute–Houston is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Volunteer Grant Writer to help strengthen our fundraising efforts and expand opportunities for the young people and communities we serve.

The Social Justice Learning Institute is dedicated to improving the education, health and well-being of youth and communities of color by empowering them to enact social change through research, training and community mobilization.

SJLI-Houston serves Black and Latino students and families through programs that provide academic support, college and career preparation, leadership development, mentoring and continued guidance as young people move toward adulthood.

The anticipated commitment is approximately two to four hours per week. Most work may be completed virtually, but the volunteer must be available to attend an in-person meeting in the Houston area approximately once per month.

Workloads may vary based on grant deadlines and organizational priorities. Some weeks may require fewer hours while active application periods may require slightly more.

What Happens Next?

Expressing interest through this opportunity allows HUGGS Inc. to coordinate interested volunteers. Selected volunteers will receive additional information regarding activation status, locations, and any required onboarding before deployment.

As an ESL Tutor, you will have the important task of instructing students who are non-native English speakers in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational skills.

You will be paired with one student and meet with them in-person once every week at their home. You will help them complete a grammar workbook and practice reading short stories in English. Your role will be instrumental in helping these students enhance their English language skills, improve their communication abilities, and achieve their language proficiency goals.

A commitment of 2-4 hours per week is asked of volunteers.

If you know how to fix a bike, Freewheels Houston needs you.

Our volunteers repair donated bikes that go to refugees, veterans and young people from low-income families in Houston — people who depend on these bikes to get to work and school. Last year our mechanics repaired and distributed more than 640 bikes. The bottleneck is always skilled hands.

Our shop is well equipped with tools, parts and a repair checklist developed with input from a master bike technician. If you know most bike systems — drivetrain, shifting, brakes, wheels and tires, handlebars and steering — you will be repairing bikes on your first visit. If you're still building your skills, our experienced volunteers are generous with what they know.

You don't need to know anything about bikes to volunteer at Freewheels Houston.

We will put you to work cleaning bikes, fixing flats and helping around the shop. Each time you come back, you will learn something new. A lot of our most experienced mechanics started exactly where you're starting — with no idea how much they'd love this.

The work has an immediate payoff. People come to the shop every weekend to pick up a bike that will get them to work, school and the grocery store. You will see that happen.

We distribute food every Tuesday morning for our senior clients.  Help is needed to gather the food and deliver to their cars.  The volunteer shift is from 10am-1pm on Tuesdays, and we ask for a commitment to volunteer 2-4 times per month.  There is typically no heavy lifting, just putting items into a grocery cart and taking it to the clients' cars.  Please join us!

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Hope Impacts partners with Cross Road Church to offer the opportunity for the homeless community of Katy to come and have supper, fellowship together, take a shower, and receive necessities and clothes.  We need volunteers to help us facilitate this program. Waivers

All volunteers are required to sign waivers. We encourage you to fill out your waiver before arrival so we can get started improving bird habitats and waterways right way. Supplies

We will provide trash bags, grabbers, water refills, first aid supplies, bug spray, and sunscreen. Closed-toed shoes are required. Long pants are recommended due to mosquitoes but be weather-aware. Site Safety

You must walk over rocks to get to the beach. This requires some coordination and we will create safest pathway and assist as needed. Expect beachy terrain and overgrowth areas. Your safety is our number one priority.

Help protect the health of Galveston Bay by collecting reliable, long-term water quality data. Through this hands-on, full-day training, you’ll gain the skills needed to monitor tidally influenced waters using Texas Stream Team Standard Core protocols.

You’ll work alongside experienced staff to learn classroom and field sampling methods used statewide to track the health of Texas waters, while becoming part of a network of volunteers committed to clean water.

No prior experience required. Supplies and materials are provided. Participants should be prepared for both indoor and outdoor instruction, short walks between locations, and a commitment to monthly monitoring after certification.

Be prepared to help set up the room for training and for an orientation on the flow of the day.

8:45 – 9:00 AM: Arrival, check-in, and room setup

Each week, we prepare and deliver 1,700 breakfast bags filled with shelf-stable breakfast items, providing much-needed nutrition to older adults throughout the Houston area. This is a great volunteer opportunity for corporate teams, community organizations, schools, churches, families and friends looking to serve together.

Healthy bird populations are an indicator of a healthy Bay.

Join the Galveston Bay Foundation for a monthly bird survey led by Texas Master Naturalist and Lead GBF Volunteer, Lisa Hardcastle, at Sweetwater Preserve, a 140-acre GBF property that is not open to the public. This restored site includes coastal prairie, estuarine marsh, salt flats, freshwater wetlands, brackish wetlands, and coastal woodlots, which support a wide variety of resident and migratory birds.

All levels of birders are welcome! Bring your own binoculars and field gear.

Surveys take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 a.m. at the end of 103rd Street in Galveston. From there, participants will drive short distances to three survey areas. The survey typically lasts three to four hours, but volunteers may leave early if needed.

No restrooms on site. Conditions can vary, so wear closed-toe shoes (boots recommended) and bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of water.

DATA COLLECTION
Survey results will be submitted to GBF staff and eBird, and the eBird list will be shared with all registered participants. These data help document species use of restored coastal habitat in the Galveston Bay watershed.

SPLASh and Houston Young Monarchs Mason Park Bayou Cleanup

Join SPLASh (Stopping Plastics and Litter Along Shorelines) and our community partners for a morning of environmental stewardship at Mason Park! Together, we'll remove litter and plastic debris from the bayou banks and wooded areas of the park, helping protect local wildlife, improve water quality, and create a cleaner, healthier community.

Date: Saturday, August 1, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Meeting Location: Volunteers will meet at the pavilion closest to Brays Bayou.

Parking: To help keep the main parking lot available for park visitors and event operations, please park along Tipps Street whenever possible and walk to the pavilion.

Following a brief safety orientation, volunteers will work in small groups to remove litter from the bayou banks and wooded sections of Mason Park. Staff will provide guidance on safe cleanup practices, litter collection procedures, and designated cleanup zones.

Whether you're volunteering as an individual, with friends, or as part of a group, your efforts will directly contribute to cleaner waterways and healthier habitats for birds, wildlife, and our community.

Here at the Houston Humane Society we strive to enrich the lives of all of our resident animals. A big part of this initiative is achieved by ensuring all of the dogs in our care get adequate time outside! This is heavily supported by volunteers coming out to walk our furry friends. Come support the adoptable animals by encouraging proper walking etiquette while providing both enrichment and exercise for the wonderful dogs here at HHS!

About Us
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at Project C.U.R.E. Houston. Project C.U.R.E. is the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries around the world. We would be delighted to have you join us and share in our mission. 

WHAT do volunteers do?

Our volunteers help with all aspects of our life-saving operation. Volunteers sort donated medical supplies, prepare shipments, help manage our warehouse, and even work with our hospital partners to procure supplies. We also have volunteers who drive out to make scheduled donation pick-ups, test and repair medical equipment at all levels of expertise, help with fundraising and outreach, plan events, and assist with administrative needs.

We do not require any experience or medical background and will teach you everything you need to know.  With that said, we do love nurses and medical professionals! Engineers are also extremely valuable to us.  

 HOW do I register?

New volunteers must create a profile and sign up on our website prior to volunteering.  

*Minimum age to volunteer is 15. Volunteers under 18 will be prompted to print a release form for their parent/guardian to sign. They must bring the signed form when they come to the warehouse.  This release expires at the end of each calendar year so an updated release may be needed.

Nurses (working/retired/student) are desperately needed by Project C.U.R.E.   We process donated medical supplies and equipment for donation to hospitals in developing countries.  Volunteers sort the donated supplies and nurses are always a huge asset to our work.    Nurses bring much needed expertise and can also serve as team leaders for other volunteers who inventory, sort, and pack the materials in preparation for shipment. The nurse's medical expertise helps insure that the teams correctly categorize and group the materials.

BIOMEDICAL/ Mechanical/ Electrical engineers and technicians are desperately needed at Project C.U.R.E. We send surplus medical supplies and equipment to developing nations. If you are skilled in this field, consider coming to our warehouse for about three hours a week to assess and repair donated equipment. Our warehouse is located at 8303 Kempwood (near Bingle).

The Katie B Organization is seeking volunteers for our 2nd Annual Community Fall Festival: Workforce and Wellness Initiative serving foster care youth, underserved families and the Fifth Ward community.

Volunteers will assist with event set up, guest registration, workforce and wellness resources, youth activities and community outreach support.

Community service hours are available. Groups are welcome.

No experience necessary. Friendly and dependable volunteers are welcome.

Assist in prepping and distributing groceries to families in need. This may include stocking the food pantry, sorting donated items for quality and bagging groceries for individual families, as well as helping families get groceries into their cars. Volunteers may also assist clients to fill out required information for the Houston Food Bank.

The food pantry hosts clients on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
