Please fill out an online volunteer application and we'll get in touch with you.

Volunteer: Volunteer Gallery Hosts for Hillerbrand+Magsamen Exhibition at FotoFestFotoFest uses signup.com to schedule volunteer shifts--Click here FotoFest is pleased to announce its fall exhibition, Hillerbrand+Magsamen: nothing is precious, everything is game, on view from October 8 through November 22, 2025, in Houston at its Silver Street Studios gallery. This exhibition is a mid-career survey of Houston-based artists Stephan Hillerbrand and Mary Magsamen, celebrating 25 years of collaboration. It is curated by Steven Evans and Madi Murphy. Collectively
known as Hillerbrand+Magsamen, the duo transforms the
everyday into the extraordinary—turning household items, family rituals, and
suburban chaos into playful, profound reflections on art, life, and
togetherness. Their
practice embraces a playful and inclusive approach to art-making, rejecting
notions of exclusivity in the art world. Houstonians will know Stephan from his many years teaching photography at UofH and HCP. Mary was the curator at Aurora Picture Show and is currently working at the Menil Collection. Gallery Hosts are the backbone of FotoFest, they allow us to keep the exhibitions open to the public. You don’t have to be a photography expert to be a gallery host; a friendly face, neat appearance, and an interest in photography is all that is required. A FotoFest staff member will greet you in the gallery, review procedures, and give you a tour of the building and the exhibition. We are less than 2 minutes away in a nearby building and always available to assist you. The gallery can be quiet during the week, please feel free to bring your tablet/laptop, a book or a small project. Please bring a jacket or sweater with you if you tend to get cold. A little about us: CDH Stars and Angels is a nonprofit patient advocacy organization based in Houston, Texas that offers a range of support services nationwide to families of children born with the severe birth defect Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). CDH is a condition that develops in utero when the muscle dividing the chest from the abdomen, the diaphragm, fails to close. The results of this failure, while sometimes treatable, can be fatal.
We provide small grants to the families experiencing CDH to pay for medical treatments and related travel, and, when needed, funeral expenses. We also provide care packages to CDH-affected families, raise awareness of this defect, and advocate for patient-centered research in partnership with organizations whose goals align with ours.

Volunteer: Project Saving SmilesProject Saving Smiles reduces the prevalence of tooth decay in underserved children and remove barriers to learning. This is accomplished by providing dental screenings, dental sealants, fluoride varnish, and oral health education free of charge targeting Houston’s at-risk 2nd graders who are enrolled in schools with 50% or more students on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. The 2001 Dental Needs Assessment in Harris County revealed 68% of 2nd graders had untreated decay. It is known that children who suffer from oral health problems cannot learn well and miss days from school. According to the 2000 Surgeon General’s Report, more than 51 million school hours are lost each year due to dental-related illness. Additionally, children who experience pain from tooth problems are likely to be distracted and unable to concentrate on their schoolwork. Since its inception, Project Saving Smiles has provided dental screening to 98,800 students and applied 217,878 sealants. The Project also provides oral health education free of charge to pre-k, second grade, middle school and high school students enrolled in a free or reduced lunch program across Houston.
