Cypress Assistance Ministries(CAM) needs volunteers to help in our donation center.

Our donation center is broken up into different departments; once you complete an orientation, you will be able to choose which department you would prefer to volunteer in. Departments include: donation intake, clothing, housewares, toys, accessories, electronics, and baby items. Duties vary by department, but include things like cleaning, organizing, sorting, pricing and displaying items in the store. We will provide training to all volunteers.

The donation center is open from 9 am - 3 pm, Monday through Saturday. Most volunteers start off working 3-4 hours, once per week.

All sales in the resale store will benefit Cypress Assistance Ministries. CAM is a 501c3 non-profit which provides assistance to the Cy-Fair community. We provide rent and utility assistance, maintain a food pantry, provide job hunting resources, and have many other programs to benefit our community.

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) is partnering with some area grocery stores to help provide food for our food pantry. We just need some helpful individuals to pick up the donations from these retailers and help deliver them to CAM's facility.

Programs like this are wonderful resources for CAM, as they help us source items that would be otherwise difficult to source (such as bakery items and produce), and they help reduce food waste in our community.

Volunteers must have access to a vehicle suitable for transporting food items (an SUV or minivan would work perfectly, a sedan with sufficient trunk space would work as well). We will provide insulated bags.

We need weekly drivers for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You may choose to volunteer for one, two, or all three of these pick-ups.

In this interactive volunteer session, you'll help individuals prepare for job interviews by conducting mock interviews using a question template and evaluation form provided by our Job Readiness Training Instructor. Volunteers will offer constructive feedback on interview responses, body language, and professionalism to help participants build confidence and improve their interviewing skills. No prior hiring experience is necessary, just a desire to support others on their path to employment!

A Point of Distribution (POD) Volunteer helps give out important supplies like food and water during emergencies. They work at special locations and have important jobs like keeping the line organized, handing out supplies the right way, checking how much is left, and keeping records. They also answer questions from people and help set up and take down the site during emergencies.

The JC Friends of the Library are a group of community members who meet every other month and volunteer to help the library. Sometimes the volunteering is helping with library events, tending the community garden, shelving books, or fundraising in the community. This meeting is where we plan and delegate tasks to individuals who are willing to help and discuss community needs! If you want to have an ongoing volunteer commitment for a good cause, this is the group for you! 

The Jacinto City Friends of the Library meet up every other month to volunteer their time to help the library. We are looking for community members who want to help at events, help fundraise, do tasks around the library, and contribute to conversations surrounding the needs of Houston's Eastside. This volunteering opportunity is ongoing and these meetings are used to delegate tasks to those willing to help out! Join us today!

The ECDC - Houston Multicultural Center is looking for women to volunteer as volleyball and basketball coaches to support our Refugee Health Promotions program. This opportunity is open to anyone with a foundational understanding of these sports, and a willingness to support women learn and play together.

Practice will take place biweekly on Saturdays from 10am - 12pm at the Ashford Pointe apartment complex.

Our Volunteer Docent Program is a volunteer level that can be reached by individuals that are interested in having a more autonomous experience representing the Arboretum and our missions. All Docent activities require onboarding, additional trainings, training time as a 'Shadow' to learn from current Docents and Arboretum Staff, and a commitment of at least 20 Docent specific volunteer hours a year. The Friends of Woodland Park (FWP) is seeking a Garden Director as a non-voting member of
FWP with responsibility for the garden areas surrounding the community center, Firefly Field
garden, the entrances to Woodland Park and other possible areas in the future. The Garden
Director will liaise with one or more FWP Board members. Attendance at FWP board meetings
is not required unless requested by the board. A commitment of 12 months is preferred.

Expectations Include:
Maintain all current beds which may include adding more plants as needed.
Oversee design of future beds.
Work with volunteer coordinator to solicit volunteers and organize seasonal workdays for garden maintenance.
Coordinate with Girl Scout and Boy Scout troop leaders if they ask to volunteer for required
required service hours.
Suggest to the board new ways to enhance the attractiveness of the park using plants.
Consider the creation of educational activities for children focused on gardening.
Follow Houston Parks and Recreation Department guidelines for garden maintenance and hosting events.

The Ripley House Community Center is looking for committed volunteers interested in serving as the first point of contact for neighbors and staff, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment. Responsibilities include greeting guests, answering phone calls, directing inquiries, and providing general administrative support.

Key Responsibilities:

Greet homeless guests, gather essential details, check eligibility for services, and answer phones. Shift: 8:45 am to 12:00 pm

Answer phones and take messages.

Do you have a passion for helping others and a talent for making people feel their best? Harbor Hospice in Baytown is seeking a licensed hairdresser to volunteer their skills and bring comfort, dignity, and joy to our patients.

CWS Houston is recruiting Volunteer Youth Mentors to support newcomer youth ages 15-24. Mentors will be responsible for facilitating once monthly group mentoring sessions with approximately 5 newcomer youth for a total of 6 months. Mentoring sessions are focused on social/emotional support, life skills, cultural orientation, financial literacy, and college or career readiness skills. Mentoring sessions also encourage peer support and social connection amongst group members.

Requirements: Volunteer Youth Mentors must be over the age of 25 years old and must be fluent in English. Prior experience working with newcomer youth is preferred but not required. CWS is prioritizing volunteers with lived experience as newcomers to the U.S.

Location: Mentoring sessions will take place either virtually or in-person depending on client needs and preference. Transportation assistance will be available to youth and mentors who participate in in-person mentoring.

Time Commitment: Mentors will be required to participate in approximately 8 hours of training prior to engaging in mentoring services. Mentoring sessions take place once per month for approximately 2 hours for a total of 6 months. Mentors will also be required to meet with their supervisor occasionally. Mentoring sessions will generally take place in the afternoons, evenings, or on the weekends depending on client and mentor availability.

Onboarding: Mentors must submit to CWS’ volunteer background check process before they are cleared to begin services.

Training & Support: Mentors will receive training on mentoring session curriculum prior to facilitating mentoring sessions. Mentors will receive ongoing support, training, and guidance from CWS Staff.
