This year, our organization will provide volunteers to help support event operations and sponsor the petting zoo, creating a fun and memorable experience for children and families as they prepare for the new school year.

Our Director - Finance requires support for the various aspects of our Financial Management and Accounting Department:

Our organization is seeking support roles to execute public relations and promotional marketing tasks. 

Support in the areas of facilitating and coordinating introductions with news and other media outlets, public institutions, community organizations, and other partnership opportunities. Support is also needed in the realm of manning booths at events, distributing fliers, creating content for social media, and identifying future events to attend.

Candidates must be able to use social media, spreadsheets, and have great interpersonal skills. Ideal candidate is self-motivated and extraverted.

We are looking for volunteers to support engagement activities with news and media sources, community organizations, and public institutions.

Join us in helping make our 7th Annual Bingo Bash fundraising event a success! Volunteers play an essential role in creating a welcoming experience for our guests while supporting event activities from start to finish.

Volunteer Scheduling

NEPL The No Excuses Pro League (NEPL), also known as the Houston Pro Am, is Houston's premier summer basketball league featuring NBA, overseas, college, and elite level basketball talent. Operated by the No Excuses Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, NEPL uses athletics as a platform to support youth development, mentorship, education, internships, scholarships, and community outreach throughout the Greater Houston area.

Backyard Bible club serves the local K-5th grade children in a nurturing, structured, and engaging environment.

Make the weekly commitment to help with homework and work one-on-one or in small groups (2-4 children) on literacy activities. Reading Buddies commit to coming weekly from 4:30-5:45pm. These could be a games, writing activities, reading, or some other activity. Agape staff will plan the activities for the day.

Must complete Agape Development volunteer application and background check.

Grant Writing is a big part of how we raise money to serve our mission. Assistance is needed to fill out grant applications and update our tracking spreadsheet.

Support for ClipChamp and Canva. We have videos that we need trimmed and developed into social media and other applications.

TERJA hosts monthly workshops in the Houston community focused on Menstrual Health for girls and young women. These workshops address crucial topics, including menstrual health equity, period poverty, sustainable solutions, and breaking the silence, shame, and stigma associated with menstruation. Participants watch videos and listen to stories from girls and young women in Kenya who are combating period poverty by creating reusable sanitary pads using local materials. The workshops include discussions on TERJA’s reusable sanitary pads, which are made from organic, biodegradable materials, and explore how sustainable, eco-friendly solutions can help alleviate period poverty. A local tailor will demonstrate how to create reusable pads and underwear using both sewing machines and traditional hand sewing techniques. Following the demonstration, attendees participate in hands-on activities, where they create their own reusable pads, underwear, and bags, with ongoing support provided. We are seeking volunteers to serve as facilitators during these workshops.

Volunteers will be required to attend an orientation and training session before the first workshop. Your involvement will be instrumental in empowering girls and young women through education and practical skills.

Join the Galveston Bay Foundation for a monthly bird survey led by Texas Master Naturalist and Lead GBF Volunteer, Lisa Hardcastle, at Sweetwater Preserve, a 140-acre GBF property that is not open to the public. This restored site includes coastal prairie, estuarine marsh, salt flats, freshwater wetlands, brackish wetlands, and coastal woodlots, which support a wide variety of resident and migratory birds.

Surveys take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 a.m. at the end of 103rd Street in Galveston. From there, participants will drive short distances to three survey areas. The survey typically lasts three to four hours, but volunteers may leave early if needed.

All levels of birders are welcome! Bring your own binoculars and field gear.

As a Survey Volunteer, you will assist with:

No restrooms on site. Conditions can vary, so wear closed-toe shoes (boots recommended) and bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of water.

DATA COLLECTION
Survey results will be submitted to GBF staff and eBird, and the eBird list will be shared with all registered participants. These data help document species use of restored coastal habitat in the Galveston Bay watershed.

As a Coastal Care Volunteer, you will:

Your weekly effort restores habitat and helps create outdoor spaces where people can learn, explore, and connect with Galveston Bay.

The Gessner Center is Galveston Bay Foundation’s new visitor hub in Kemah, TX. It will be home to our aquatic nursery program—where we grow and prepare wetland plants that are critical to restoring habitat, improving water quality, and supporting the long-term health of Galveston Bay.

As an Aquatic Nursery Volunteer, you will assist GBF staff with hands-on plant care.

Depending on the needs of the nursery, may help with watering, weeding, trimming, shifting plants, repotting wetland plants, and removing algae buildup from nursery ponds.

Some workdays may also include planting in our wetland pools and will be communicated in advance.

If you would like to help rotate or retrieve plants from the aquatic pools, you are encouraged to bring tall rubber boots.

Expect to get dirty and muddy!

By caring for nursery plants that will be used in restoration, you directly support healthier wetlands and a healthier Galveston Bay.

No experience is necessary. Staff will show you everythingyou need to know. Be prepared to walk across uneven terrain. Restrooms will be available onsite.

At the GBF EcoCenter Greenhouse, staff and volunteers cultivate native plants to restore and manage coastal tallgrass prairie across the Galveston Bay region.

Every Thursday and Saturday from 8:00–11:00 AM, volunteers work in the nursery to support one of the most endangered ecosystems in North America. This work helps create habitat for wildlife and strengthens natural flood protection.

NOTE: Saturday shifts are currently postponed until further notice. We hope to resume shifts as soon possible and will be sure to send out an email when they resume.

As a Nursery Volunteer, you will:

No experience is necessary; we will show you what to do! Minors can volunteer alongside an parent/guardian or an approved chaperone. 

Getting There

Your time in the nursery helps grow native plants that restore habitat, support wildlife, and protect communities around Galveston Bay.

Join our Conversation Class and help adult learners build the language skills they need to thrive. 

As a classroom assistant, you’ll work alongside trained instructors to create a welcoming, supportive learning environment. Whether students are just beginning to learn the alphabet or practicing everyday conversations, your presence helps build confidence and connection. 

As a volunteer, you may:   

Your support will help refugees improve their English, strengthen their communication skills, and work toward life-changing goals—like getting a job, talking to a doctor, or helping their children with school. 

Our conversation class takes place every Friday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. 

No teaching experience required—just patience, encouragement, and a passion for helping others.

As an ESL Tutor, you will have the important task of instructing students who are non-native English speakers in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational skills.

You will be paired with one student and meet with them in-person once every week at their home. You will help them complete a grammar workbook and practice reading short stories in English. Your role will be instrumental in helping these students enhance their English language skills, improve their communication abilities, and achieve their language proficiency goals.

A commitment of 2-4 hours per week is asked of volunteers.

Help newly arrived refugees in Houston gain the skills they need to get around the city by METRO bus. 

As a Bus Buddy, you’ll ride alongside a refugee student as they travel to their English class. You’ll teach them:

How to pay in a METRO bus and request to get off at a bus stop.

For many refugees, learning how to use public transportation is a vital step toward rebuilding their lives. Your support can open the door to opportunities, connections, and independence. 

No experience needed—just a friendly attitude and a love for helping others. 
We’ll provide training and support to get you started.

We are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out!

You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. Serving in this capacity, you will instill hope and confidence for those navigating a job search.

When: This is a virtual volunteer opportunity that takes place 3x a month from 12:30PM-2:00PM. Volunteers meet on Zoom as a group and then meet with 1-3 clients in a breakout room.

Our peer support guests volunteer their time at MHI by overseeing the day-to-day duties of the houses for the emergency shelter guests. They receive free room & board and no stipend. Many have expressed the need to take a break. Unfortunately, many have no other place to take a weekend pass.

We would love to have in-kind donations of local hotels/motels in Houston of a 2 or 3 day stay for this special group. The donation could come directly from hotel management or in the form of a gift card. Magnificat Houses, Inc. (MHI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As a Marine Debris Survey Volunteer, you will:

No experience needed. Staff will guide you through each step of the survey process.

This role involves walking on sand, mud, or uneven shoreline terrain while working outdoors. Dress for the weather and bring water.

Minors welcome. Volunteers under 18 must be registered with a parent or guardian and accompanied by an adult chaperone.

If you are a cat lover, volunteer to help our beloved furry friends.  In LCPA's Kitty Condo Krewe program, cats and kittens ready for adoption are shown and adopted seven days a week in “condos” at 6 area pet supply stores in League City, Clear Lake and Kemah.  As a volunteer of the Kitty Condo Krewe, you sign up to love and play with the kitties, feed them, and clean the condo units.  It only takes about an hour, and it means the world to the cats and kittens who are waiting to be adopted into wonderful homes.

All that’s required is a one-hour hands-on training, after which you can sign up when you have a bit of time.  You can sign up for a morning shift or a late afternoon/evening shift (arrival times are flexible).  Volunteer qualifications:  Must love cats and kittens, be at least 18, dependable, have reliable transportation, and want to help cats and kittens stay healthy and get adopted into loving, forever homes.  Men, women, couples, retired seniors, teenagers, child (age 9+)/parent teams are all welcome to volunteer. 

We ask that you volunteer a minimum of two times a month. That’s just 2 hours (2 shifts) a month! And commit to volunteering for at least 3 months.

We encourage carpooling to the event if possible. Limited parking is available at the community center, 212 Parkview, and on Parkview Street. Additional parking is available on Woodland, North and Wrightwood Streets.

Liability Waivers

 All participants are required to sign waivers regardless of age. By registering through Volunteer Houston, you will complete the waiver. Please ensure an individual waiver is completed for all members of your group. No group liability waivers will be accepted.

HOPE meets volunteers and feral cat  trappers every Sunday afternoon at our storage facility off Buffalo Speedway. This opportunity is for someone who can meet at the facility, document equipment loans and make sure equipment is given to approved people. This may involve some email and spreadsheet work during the week. Estimated time needed 2-4 hours weekly. Knowledge of humane trapping a plus but we can train.

We are looking for passionate, dependable canvassers to join our team during the 2026 election cycle. This is a great opportunity for college students or recent grads interested in civic work and grassroots organizing. You decide your schedule as long as you're able to meet our 10 hour minimum! We'll also refresh the butterfly and firefly gardens.

FWP volunteers annually remove over 10,000 pounds of trash from the Nature Preserve that collects along the bayou following Houston's heavy rains.

The Social Justice Learning Institute–Houston is seeking an experienced and mission-driven Volunteer Grant Writer to help strengthen our fundraising efforts and expand opportunities for the young people and communities we serve.

The Social Justice Learning Institute is dedicated to improving the education, health and well-being of youth and communities of color by empowering them to enact social change through research, training and community mobilization.

SJLI-Houston serves Black and Latino students and families through programs that provide academic support, college and career preparation, leadership development, mentoring and continued guidance as young people move toward adulthood.

The anticipated commitment is approximately two to four hours per week. Most work may be completed virtually, but the volunteer must be available to attend an in-person meeting in the Houston area approximately once per month.

Workloads may vary based on grant deadlines and organizational priorities. Some weeks may require fewer hours while active application periods may require slightly more.

To ensure a safe, smooth, and successful event, the 9/11 Day team will assign volunteer roles on the day of the event based on physical abilities, event needs, and where support is most needed.

If you know how to fix a bike, Freewheels Houston needs you.

Our volunteers repair donated bikes that go to refugees, veterans and young people from low-income families in Houston — people who depend on these bikes to get to work and school. Last year our mechanics repaired and distributed more than 640 bikes. The bottleneck is always skilled hands.

Our shop is well equipped with tools, parts and a repair checklist developed with input from a master bike technician. If you know most bike systems — drivetrain, shifting, brakes, wheels and tires, handlebars and steering — you will be repairing bikes on your first visit. If you're still building your skills, our experienced volunteers are generous with what they know.

Before your first shift, please complete our waiver: https://www.freewheelshouston.org/waiver. A parent or guardian must complete this waiver on behalf of a volunteer younger than 18 years of age.

You don't need to know anything about bikes to volunteer at Freewheels Houston.

We will put you to work cleaning bikes, fixing flats and helping around the shop. Each time you come back, you will learn something new. A lot of our most experienced mechanics started exactly where you're starting — with no idea how much they'd love this.

The work has an immediate payoff. People come to the shop every weekend to pick up a bike that will get them to work, school and the grocery store. You will see that happen.

Registering in advance helps us prepare for your visit and makes sure we have your contact information for updates and communications.

We distribute food every Tuesday morning for our senior clients.  Help is needed to gather the food and deliver to their cars.  The volunteer shift is from 10am-1pm on Tuesdays, and we ask for a commitment to volunteer 2-4 times per month.  There is typically no heavy lifting, just putting items into a grocery cart and taking it to the clients' cars.  Please join us!

Join SPLASh and Filipino Young Professionals of Houston to help us clean up Monument Inn beach!

This will be our final cleanup as part of the FWC Houston Sustainability Committee's bayou cleanup events. This program is city-wide effort to remove trash, reduce pollution, and better understand how major events impact our waterways.

We're so glad you'll be joining to make a positive impact and help us collect important trash data!

Parking

Park in the parking lot for Juan Seguin park across the stree. Please do not park in the Monument Inn Restaurant parking lot. They have graciously allowed us to use thier property for us to set up, but request we leave the parking lot open for their customers.

Two Volunteer Opportunities for the Day!

General Cleanup Volunteer - Cleanup trash in the area, no data collection required.

Data Collection Volunteer - SPLASh Staff will lead a random bag sample with your help! You will be guided in the proper protocol to collect & itemize trash within an area. If you would like to participate as a cleanup volunteer, please make a note when you register and arrive by 7:45am. No prior training required!

Waivers

All volunteers are required to sign waivers. We encourage you to fill out your waiver before arrival so we can get started improving bird habitats and waterways right way. We will have physical waivers on site day of as well.  Click HERE to sign our digital waivers for yourself and any children participating with you.

Supplies

We will provide trash bags, grabbers, water refills, first aid supplies, bug spray, and sunscreen. Closed-toed shoes are required. Long pants are recommended due to mosquitoes but be weather-aware. It will be hot.  Bring a reusable water bottle and any additional bug spray, sunscreen or supplies you may need to keep you safe during the cleanup.

Site Safety

You must walk over rocks to get to the beach. This requires some coordination and we will create safest pathway and assist as needed. Expect beachy terrain and overgrowth areas. Your safety is our number one priority.

SPLASh will reach out the week prior to the event with cleanup details, weather plans, and additional important information to best prepare you for the day. Please ensure you register with a valid email to get the most up to date information. We strongly suggest each participant register to ensure you receive most up to date information.

Help newly arrived refugees in Houston gain the skills they need to get around the city independently. 

As a Bus Buddy, you’ll ride alongside refugee students as they travel to important destinations like English classes, job training programs, or healthcare appointments. You’ll teach them how to: 

Read and understand METRO bus maps and schedules 

Use the Transit app to plan and track their route 

Purchase and use bus passes with ease 

For many refugees, learning how to use public transportation is a vital step toward rebuilding their lives. Your support can open the door to opportunities, connections, and independence. 

No experience needed—just a friendly attitude and a love for helping others. 
We’ll provide training and support to get you started. 

Help cancer patients get to life-saving treatment.

As a Road To Recovery volunteer driver with the American Cancer Society, you’ll use your personal vehicle to provide free rides for cancer patients who have no other way to get to their appointments.

Most rides are Monday-Friday during the day. You choose the rides that fit your schedule, with a suggested minimum of 2 rides per month.

Calling all Volunteers!!! COHAP is in need of 100 volunteers to help with Set -up the day before our BIG EVENT.  (Back to School Festival & Job Fair)

Volunteers will assist with setting up tables, chairs, backdrop, decorations, signs, children's activities booths, and School Supplies. We need as many hands-on deck as possible to assist with prep for the event the following day.  Whether you can serve for a few hours - your assistance would be most welcomed.

This is a flexible volunteer opportunity, and you can pick up materials and distribute them on your own schedule. Volunteer hours will be credited, and we recommend shifts of approximately 2–3 hours.
