Volunteer Houston is in the process of developing a mobile app to encourage volunteerism in the Houston area. We have created a concept andwireframes for the app, and have also found a company to develop the app.

FOX 26 News is looking for volunteers to help answer the Take it to Akin consumer hot line.  

Volunteers work directly with news veteran Emily Akin.  Ms. Akin has been helping Houstonians solve their consumer issues for 20 years.

Hours: Monday thru Wednesday 10:30am to 1:30pm.  Each volunteer works one shift, on the day of their choice.   

Requirements:  Patience and willingness to help our viewers with their consumer issues.  Essentially Volunteers try to help our viewers help themselves.

No phone experience necessary, but it helps.   All new volunteers will be trained.

Hermann Park Conservancy's new McGovern Centennial Gardens is now open! The Gardens delight visitors with traditional features like a rose garden, and new areas to explore such as an interactive family garden, an arid garden, a 30-foot garden mount, and a sculpture promenade featuring public art donated by countries around the world. The new gardens will receive many visitors! Assist park staff in making sure their visit is enjoyable for all as well helping to maintain Hermann Park to a high standard.

Rose Volunteers: volunteers that wish to work in the rose garden will receive training on how to deadhead and prune roses. Deadheading roses is an "evergreen" task- one that always needs attention. Once you receive training, you will be able to come in during garden hours from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Our Deconstruction team takes apart buildings and structures that would otherwise be demolished and helps save usable material from landfills by recycling materials and selling them at our ReStore. Volunteering with our deconstruction crew is an excellent way to meet friends and learn new skills in a fun environment. We hope you join us soon!

Come participate with our tandem bike rides! Twice a month, the Lighthouse of Houston provides a tandem bike ride for adults who are blind or visually impaired. These are held on Saturday mornings and last about 2 hours.

The Alzheimer's Association’s Helpline serves people with memory loss, caregivers, health care professionals and the public.  Compassionate Helpline volunteers play an essential role in ensuring each caller receives information and referrals to local community resources, chapter services and ongoing support.

Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one four hour shift per week for a minimum of one year following training. Shifts are available Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5 pm.

As a Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA volunteer, you can help keep children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are in the child welfare system safe while they reach permanency.

CASA volunteers speak up for a child in court. You are not a foster parent; you are a voice making a difference at a critical point in a child's life!

CASA volunteers get to know the child and everyone involved in the child's life, to advocate for the child's best interest while they are in the foster care system.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

At Volunteer Houston, we are in the process of creating an Annual Report. We will recap the year by including how impactful stats via our programs and events.As part of this process, we need to design a few logos, and are seeking a graphic designer to execute the designs (and provide ideas if they would like). 

This volunteer opportunity can be done remotely, although volunteers are more than welcome to work in our office and use a Mac desktop we recently purchased. We would love to have a few logos put together in the next few weeks. 

Mutts & Meows Rescue needs volunteers to help with our inhouse cat care at 2 local Petsmarts in the Katy area. 

Multiple shifts are available 7 days a week. Shifts are 2 hour segments and tasks include feeding the cats, cleaning the liter boxes, cleaning the cages, and socializing with the cats.  Volunteers must be 16 years or older.  For the safety of the volunteers and the cats, all volunteers much be trained first.  Training session can be counted as volunteer hours.
