Volunteer: Come Hide from Search Dogs - Bear Creek Pioneers Park (copy)We are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out! You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. All high school students or older are welcome to participate. Feel free to view our website to see what we are about: www.AlphaSar.org. A confirmation email will be sent after sign-up to confirm your volunteer slot. A waiver will be attached. Any participants under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer time. Agency: Alpha Search And Recovery We are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. Volunteer: Volunteer for Action For HappinessJoin Us in Making a Difference: Our volunteers inspire positive change that ripples outwards
Do you want to see more happiness and kindness in the world? We’re looking for dynamic Volunteers to be part of creating exactly that! CLICK TO ACCESS OUR VOLUNTEER TRAINING: https://actionforhappiness.org/volunteer-training?utm=AD-VH About the Role: Our volunteers bring people together for shared learning experiences, based on positive psychology, that boost the wellbeing of everyone involved. - The amazing 6-week Happiness Habits course is designed to be run by pairs of volunteers like you. It features expert videos, science-backed exercises and the chance to form meaningful connections. It is a very impactful (many say life-changing) experience. - If running a 6-week course feels like too big of a first step, don't worry, you can also get involved by supporting a monthly group (they are a little bit less formal, while still having a huge positive impact!). Volunteering with Action for Happiness is a path of action that consistently feels like you are making a difference in the world. You don’t have to be an expert - or be happy all the time. If you are a warm and enthusiastic person that is more than enough to get started. Why Volunteer with Us? Do something that matters: spreading happiness and witnessing people transform for the better is a huge source of meaning.Grow your skills: inspiring others, learning together and reinforcing your own happiness skills all contribute to personal growth.Build community: meeting like-minded people, building lasting friendships and belonging to a global community contributing to a better future for all.How do I know it’s right for me? Try out the VOLUNTEER TRAINING linked above and decide for yourself. We've designed it especially to help you answer questions like this as it explains thoroughly what being a volunteer involves and helps you reflect on your readiness. - Apply Today! Volunteer: Volunteer bike mechanic -- put your skills to workIf you know how to fix a bike, Freewheels Houston needs you. Our volunteers repair donated bikes that go to refugees, veterans and young people from low-income families in Houston — people who depend on these bikes to get to work and school. Last year our mechanics repaired and distributed more than 640 bikes. The bottleneck is always skilled hands. Our shop is well equipped with tools, parts and a repair checklist developed with input from a master bike technician. If you know most bike systems — drivetrain, shifting, brakes, wheels and tires, handlebars and steering — you will be repairing bikes on your first visit. If you're still building your skills, our experienced volunteers are generous with what they know. Before your first shift, please complete our waiver: https://freewheelshouston.org/volunteer-consent/. Agency: Freewheels Houston If you know how to fix a bike, Freewheels Houston needs you. We will show you what to do. Restrooms are available nearby at the park. Be prepared to stand and walk for over an hour. Come prepared with a reusable water bottle and appropriate outdoor clothing. NOTE: All minors must be accompanied by a registered parent/guardian or approved chaperone over the age of 18. Parents or guardians must register and complete a waiver for participants under age 18.
