Volunteer: Brighter Bites Food Boxing Project

Volunteer at the Houston Food Bank and take part in our mission of Food for better lives!   Opportunities are available for individuals, corporations, schools, faith based and community organizations and others.  Help out while sharing the value of volunteering with those you learn with, worship with, play with or work with - and have a blast doing it!

Brighter Bites is a nonprofit that creates communities of health through fresh food with the goal of changing behavior among children and their families to prevent obesity and achieve long-term health. It is an evidence-based, multi-component elementary school, preschool, and summer camp program that utilizes reliable access to fruits and vegetables, nutrition education, and consistent exposure to recipes and messages that feature fresh food. Since 2012, Brighter Bites has provided nearly 40 million pounds of produce and millions of nutrition education materials to more than 475,000 individuals.

During a Brighter Bites Boxing Project shift, volunteers will help build produce orders for Brighter Bites schools at the Houston Food Bank. This includes sorting and boxing produce, then stacking the completed boxes of produce onto pallets. These pallets will then be delivered by the Houston Food bank to Brighter Bites schools throughout the week.  For questions or additional information, please contact addy.babalola@brighterbites.org.

Volunteer: Seeking Organize-Minded Helpers

Does organizing bring you peace? Does having things in alphabetical order make you super happy?

Nonprofit organizations, like ours, generate A LOT of paperwork, most of it, required by those who fund our programs. Would we love to be paperless? Of course, but, for now, we are COVERED in paper!

We seek the help of organize-minded individuals and small groups to help keep the files, filled with super important information, organized and current. This work helps us provide the best possible service to our seniors.

Won't you join us? :-)

Volunteer: Mobile Pantry Food Distributions

Target Hunger had to close many of its brick-and-mortar pantries due to COVID-19. We began delivering prepackaged boxes of food to our client's homes, in partnership with Door Dash. Staff has expressed the need of volunteers specifically on Tuesdays usually from 9am to 11am. Volunteers in the pantry will help pantry staff guide client's shopping, the restocking of the mobile pantry, and assist clients to their cars. Bilingual preferred. Prefer a reoccurring volunteer.

Volunteer: Food Donation Pick-up Drivers

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) is partnering with some area grocery stores to help provide food for our food pantry. We just need some helpful individuals to pick up the donations from these retailers and help deliver them to CAM's facility.

Programs like this are wonderful resources for CAM, as they help us source items that would be otherwise difficult to source (such as bakery items and produce), and they help reduce food waste in our community.

Volunteers must have access to a vehicle suitable for transporting food items (an SUV or minivan would work perfectly, a sedan with sufficient trunk space would work as well). We will provide insulated bags.

We need weekly drivers for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You may choose to volunteer for one, two, or all three of these pick-ups.
