Hermann Park’s McGovern Centennial Gardens is seeking volunteers interested in promoting a positive experience among park visitors.  Hermann Park Conservancy invites you to join us in developing a corps of  volunteers to become trained Ambassadors within a beautiful garden setting. The Centennial Gardens span 8 acres with various garden types such as succulents, vegetables, perennials, roses, pine trees, bulbs, as well the three story high mount to walk and sculptures to see!

Volunteers will learn to orient visitors, share garden information and etiquette, greet visiting groups, establish a positive rapport with all visitors and conduct periodic checks of the various gardens. Volunteer shifts for Saturdays and Sundays are 11am to 1pm and 3pm to 5pm (times subject to change). This position is integral to the enjoyment of these beautiful and fragile new gardens.  Please join us in creating a corps of volunteers to help take care of this amazingly beautiful garden.

Too Hype Teen Night is a discipleship program for young teens in our neighborhood to gain a better understanding of the Bible and how it applies to their lives.  One night a week, we have a time for these teens to gather in a youth group environment where they spend time eating, fellowshipping, worshiping, discussing hot topics, and digging into the Word together.  THTN also provides monthly field trips and other events for the teens to bond together and have fun.

Too Hype Teen Night Volunteer - Minimum twice a month thru May 2016 - Thursdays - 6:00-8:00pm - Teens - Come for food, fellowship, worship, spiritual lesson, and fun at our youth night. Fellowship (and eat if you want!) with teens during dinner, engage in activities, help “keep the peace” during worship and the talk time, and build relationships with our amazing teenagers.

Help make our House a Home!  Ronald McDonald House - Holcombe House is a 70 bedroom, free-standing House available for stay to families with seriously ill children being treated in the Texas Medical Center. 

Two Volunteer Positions Available:

1. House Warmer – Create a warm, homelike culture throughout the House by serving and engaging with our residents. Volunteers serving in this position will primarily be up and moving throughout the House during the shift completing tasks such as:
- Provide a listening ear and visit informally with family members in common areas
- Assist family members and group volunteers with loading/unloading belongings
- Sharing our mission by providing tours to visitors and group volunteers
- Restocking snacks, making coffee, and helping our community kitchen stay organized and clean for our families
- Orienting families and group volunteers on kitchen use instructions
- Assist with sorting, organizing, and documenting donated items
- Restocking family bedrooms in preparation of new family check-in
- Assist group volunteers in orienting them to our House
- Helping orient new families to our House by helping them find kitchen materials, assisting with the checkout of bikes, play equipment, video game controls, etc.
- Giving tours to new families

2. House Concierge – Give family members and visitors an awesome first impression of the House by providing a warm welcome! Volunteers in this position will be primarily stationed at the front desk, assisting the manager-on-duty, welcoming and sharing information with our families and visitors. Volunteers will provide information and resources to guests and visitors by completing tasks such as:
- answering the phone and giving needed information about RMH, transferring calls as necessary
- welcoming and signing-in group volunteers
- assisting House Manager with clerical work
- assisting with occasional administrative projects from other departments
- selling merchandise
- paging to make House announcements
- welcoming visitors for meetings with staff, communicating with staff members about their arrival
- assisting with shuttle sign-up
- giving directions and sharing information on nearby resources
- sorting mail and facilitating package pick-up 

Holcombe House Volunteers make a 3 month commitment in our "Fast Track" or a 6 month commitment to serve in our "Traditional" track. Volunteer opportunities are available from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. seven days a week. Shifts are scheduled in 3 hour time blocks.

MAM is inviting volunteers to become an ESL Teacher Assistant! We have opportunities for individuals who are outgoing, friendly and want to make a difference in the life of others.  Our spring 2015 ESL Program starts on Jan. 19th and ends on April 16th. Class times and locations vary with several opportunities to choose from. Volunteer Assistants will work with a teacher to provide the most help for our students.  We have morning, afternoon and evening classes available. Classes are held at MAM and other locations around the Spring Branch area.  All of the training, materials and support are provided to our volunteers from trained ESL Staff.  You do NOT have to be bilingual to teach ESL!

However, the CEC has not executed a coordinated, year-end solicitation from individual donors for several years. Annual strategic planning by the board has identified an annual fund drive as a critical task for CEC in 2015, and the intern will be essential to the implementation of this effort.

With well over 100 organizations represented in the current guide, and a growing audience for the information, the CEC would like to create a version of the resource guide specifically for the educational setting. The audience will be school teachers, informal environmental educators, and afterschool programs.

Unfortunately, it is often difficult for nonprofits—especially small nonprofits—to keep tabs on all relevant activity. The Government Relations Intern’s job will be to track the environmental activities of one or more governing or administrative agencies and provide reports of both actions and opportunities to provide input.

The CEC would like to produce two series of articles about the environmental issues being addressed by its member communities. One series is intended for publication in the weekly newsletter. The other series will form the basis for an online library of articles for use in homeowner association newsletters and similar publications.

Volunteer Houston has recently launched a Google AdWords search marketing campaign using funds provided by a grant from Google. The grant provides us with $10,000 per month to spend on AdWords advertising.

Through weekly visits, employment mentors will support refugees in realizing both short-term and long-term professional goals.

The Nature Discover Center is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic individual who has a passion for science, nature, and children to volunteer with our field trip program.
