Opossum and Pals Volunteers work up-close with nature in this busy emergency wildlife center where thousands of ill, injured and abandoned wildlife are admitted. Help is needed to care and feed the many orphaned wild animals that come to our facility during the year. Volunteer duties: feed wildlife, clean cages, prepare special diets, and the opportunity to learn special skills like administering hydration fluids sub-cutaneously, administering medication, and tubing of doves and opossums.  

Positions are open for Animal Caregivers who must be at least 18 years of age, and willing to learn and participate in all skills.  Positions for Animal Helpers are also available for those who only want to participate in the care and feeding of animals but not administer any medical duties. Helpers must be at least 14 years of age.

Help make our House a Home!  Ronald McDonald House - Holcombe House is a 70 bedroom, free-standing House available for stay to families with seriously ill children being treated in the Texas Medical Center. 

Two Volunteer Positions Available:

1. House Warmer – Create a warm, homelike culture throughout the House by serving and engaging with our residents. Volunteers serving in this position will primarily be up and moving throughout the House during the shift completing tasks such as:
- Provide a listening ear and visit informally with family members in common areas
- Assist family members and group volunteers with loading/unloading belongings
- Sharing our mission by providing tours to visitors and group volunteers
- Restocking snacks, making coffee, and helping our community kitchen stay organized and clean for our families
- Orienting families and group volunteers on kitchen use instructions
- Assist with sorting, organizing, and documenting donated items
- Restocking family bedrooms in preparation of new family check-in
- Assist group volunteers in orienting them to our House
- Helping orient new families to our House by helping them find kitchen materials, assisting with the checkout of bikes, play equipment, video game controls, etc.
- Giving tours to new families

2. House Concierge – Give family members and visitors an awesome first impression of the House by providing a warm welcome! Volunteers in this position will be primarily stationed at the front desk, assisting the manager-on-duty, welcoming and sharing information with our families and visitors. Volunteers will provide information and resources to guests and visitors by completing tasks such as:
- answering the phone and giving needed information about RMH, transferring calls as necessary
- welcoming and signing-in group volunteers
- assisting House Manager with clerical work
- assisting with occasional administrative projects from other departments
- selling merchandise
- paging to make House announcements
- welcoming visitors for meetings with staff, communicating with staff members about their arrival
- assisting with shuttle sign-up
- giving directions and sharing information on nearby resources
- sorting mail and facilitating package pick-up 

Holcombe House Volunteers make a 3 month commitment in our "Fast Track" or a 6 month commitment to serve in our "Traditional" track. Volunteer opportunities are available from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. seven days a week. Shifts are scheduled in 3 hour time blocks.

2. House Concierge – Give family members and visitors an awesome first impression of the House by providing a warm welcome! Volunteers in this position will be primarily stationed at the front desk, assisting the manager-on-duty, welcoming and sharing information with our families and visitors. Volunteers will provide information and resources to guests and visitors by completing tasks such as:
- answering the phone and giving needed information about RMH, transferring calls as necessary
- welcoming and signing-in group volunteers
- assisting House Manager with clerical work
- assisting with occasional administrative projects from other departments
- selling merchandise
- paging to make House announcements
- welcoming visitors for meetings with staff, communicating with staff members about their arrival
- assisting with shuttle sign-up
- giving directions and sharing information on nearby resources
- sorting mail and facilitating package pick-up 

Holcombe House Volunteers make a 3 month commitment in our "Fast Track" or a 6 month commitment to serve in our "Traditional" track. Volunteer opportunities are available from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. seven days a week. Shifts are scheduled in 3 hour time blocks.

Volunteer: Puppies & dogs need a ride to & from weekend adoption events and vet appointments through the week

We need help transporting puppies and dogs to and from adoption events on some weekends and also to & from vet appointments and shelter pick up during the week.

Larger vehicles - Full to mid-size SUVs or trucks are needed for weekend adoption events. Smaller vehicles are ok for vet drop off and pick up and shelter pick up.

Weekend adoption events:                                                                                                                                                   Pets need to be picked up at one location in the Missouri City area and transported to the Katy PetSmarts.  They also need to be picked up at the end of the day and transported back to the Missouri City location. Pets will be in transport crates for weekend adoptions and vet drop off and pick up. Volunteers need to be 18 or older.

We have opportunities for individuals who are outgoing, friendly and want to make a difference in the life of others.  Our spring 2015 ESL Program starts on Jan. 19th and ends on April 16th. Class times and locations vary with several opportunities to choose from. Volunteer Assistants will work with a teacher to provide the most help for our students.  We have morning, afternoon and evening classes available. Classes are held at MAM and other locations around the Spring Branch area.  All of the training, materials and support are provided to our volunteers from trained ESL Staff.  You do NOT have to be bilingual to teach ESL!

Qualifications needed: Friendly, dedicated, patient, willing to learn and a desire to empower others through education. Volunteers should be able to serve one 3-hour class per week.

Benefits: This is a perfect opportunity for those seeking hands on experience in a classroom setting, working with adults, teaching language skills, gain insight into our communities and the chance to interact with people from a variety of countries and cultures. MAM ESL program also allows its volunteers to explore teaching as a profession and to develop skills that can enhance other aspects of their careers.
