Calling people of all faiths or no faith at all in Houston to care for our shared environment during Earth Month!  We will engage in hands-on environmental stewardship at the Willow Waterhole Conservation Reserve, with a variety of hands-on tasks suitable for all ages & skill levels. In observance of the Great American Clean-up, one of the activities will be a trash bash.  Meet at 11350 Ricecrest by the Oak tree in the park to sign in. Metro bus line 7 stops right nearby.  Tools/supplies will be provided. This event is organized by Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston, in partnership with the Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy.  The conservancy requires signing of a waiver to participate. Overview:
We are seeking caring and enthusiastic volunteers to provide childcare and host engaging activities for children on our campus while their parents participate in our LifeSkills classes. Volunteers are needed for the Texas Challengers Quiz Tournaments (TCQT) high school Quiz Bowl tournament at Bellaire High School on Saturday, April 18. Most volunteers will serve as moderators and read questions to the students. Moderators will need to complete a quick 10-15 minute training before volunteering. Volunteers can also serve as scorekeepers. Training for scorekeepers takes about 5 minutes. Free pizza will be provided for lunch. Partial shifts are welcome.

Help us prepare for summer by getting our tents ready prior to sending them out on our summer trips! This involves setting them up, checking for damage, identifying any missing parts, and then breaking them back down and packing them up. It's a simple task that goes quickly with 15 to 20 people. If time allows we will do simple repairs involving gear tape.

We will meet at Bayland Park on Monday, April 20th to kick off National Volunteer Week! Please arrive at round 9:45am in order to begin at 10am. We should be done by 12:30 pm. Please dress comfortably, and bring a refillable water bottle. We will have breakfast, cold drinks, and snacks.

Freewheels accepts bike donations on Friday and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon  at our shop at 6020 Jessamine #103, Houston, TX 77081. If you have a question, please email us at info@freewheelshouston.org.

The bike you are not riding holds the key to freedom for a refugee, veteran or young person who needs a way to work or school. Donate your bike to Freewheels and our volunteers will clean and repair it and provide a way for people to get to work or school.

Our greatest need is for adult mountain bikes and hybrids with 26-inch and 700c wheels. We also need youth bikes with 24-inch wheels and 20-inch wheels.

Our refugee and veteran customers rarely ask for road bikes or beach cruisers. We do not accept used helmets, small children’s bikes, scooters or tag-alongs. If it’s not economic for Freewheels to repair a donated used bike, we often reclaim parts and components that can be used on other bikes. We have partnerships with people who will take bikes we don’t plan to repair and deliver them to organizations in Mexico. When we receive a road bike, we may try to sell it and and use the proceeds to pay for parts, supplies, safety equipment and rent.

You don't need to know anything about bikes to volunteer at Freewheels Houston.

We will put you to work cleaning bikes, fixing flats and helping around the shop. Each time you come back, you will learn something new. A lot of our most experienced mechanics started exactly where you're starting — with no idea how much they'd love this.

The work has an immediate payoff. People come to the shop every weekend to pick up a bike that will get them to work, to school, to the grocery store. You will see that happen.

Our volunteers repair donated bikes that go to refugees, veterans and young people from low-income families in Houston — people who depend on these bikes to get to work and school. Last year our mechanics repaired and distributed more than 640 bikes. The bottleneck is always skilled hands.

Our shop is well equipped with tools, parts and a repair checklist developed with input from a master bike technician. If you know most bike systems — drivetrain, shifting, brakes, wheels and tires, handlebars and steering — you will be repairing bikes on your first visit. If you're still building your skills, our experienced volunteers are generous with what they know.

General Day Center volunteers enjoy socializing with our members with dementia and help us lead activities. They may also help with special events or other specific projects happening in the center. Training on communication and activities will be provided.

We need outgoing volunteers to work at the Day Center Front Desk one or two days a week. Their primary job is to greet families as they pick up their loved ones and walk Day Center members in and out of the Day Center. Training will be provided.

BakerRipley's Adult Education program gives our neighbors the skills to succeed in the professional world. Our initiatives help build economic mobility and stability in our community by supporting our neighbors career growth.

We are looking for followers of Jesus who love soccer and are passionate about helping kids develop strong life skills and values. We provide free soccer practice at various local schools in Alief ISD Monday-Thursday 5:00-6:30pm. As a volunteer, you would be working with the head coach to follow the provided practice curriculum. The curriculum guides you through warm ups, soccer technique, drills, and activities. The unique thing about our program is that all of our soccer sessions are based around a Bible story and life value. We use soccer as a tool to instill valuable life lessons about character and personal development into the players. Cornerstone Family Resource Center (CFRC) is seeking community groups, businesses, churches, schools, and individuals to host a toiletry and cleaning supply drive to support low-income families living at Premier on Woodfair Apartments.

For many residents, everyday essentials like soap, detergent, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies are not covered by SNAP or other assistance programs. These items are often the first to be cut when families are choosing between rent, utilities, food, and medical needs. Your drive helps fill that critical gap and directly supports families’ health, dignity, and housing stability.

CFRC makes it easy to participate:

In this role, you will retrieve, transport, and deliver blood samples from area crossmatch facilities to our headquarters located behind NRG Stadium, using a company vehicle. All volunteer drivers will go through a volunteer orientation, background check, drug screen, road test and complete defensive driving training provided by The Blood Center to ensure the safety of the volunteers as well as the products. Volunteer drivers are asked to commit to 2-4 driving shifts per months with a four hour per shift minimum. Volunteer drivers will receive materials about the program and its policies, essential contact information, a T-shirt, and a personalized volunteer badge. Their shift will begin at the Hospital Services department, where they will sign in and receive their vehicle and route assignments.

This Holiday Season make a difference in a teen's life by SHAREing your heart & home with a high school exchange student! Volunteers, with or without children at home, are needed to host teenage boys and girls from Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mongolia, Japan, and several other countries. Families can review student applications and choose the boy or girl that matches their family. SHARE! students speak English, come medically insured, and have their own spending money for personal expenses. They attend the host family’s local high school for a school year or semester.

Young Homeowners League is a 501c3 nonprofit to empower high schoolers and other youths to work, save, buy land, build starter homes, and become young homeowners.
Revolving fund will be used to acquire lower priced land to develop into lots, with target cost $30k each.
Our first focus area is within the City of Houston with sewer line, and our second is communities within a one-hour commute of Houston.
We organize youths into project teams with experienced members to build starter homes, 1000 to 1400 sqft size, starting $120/sqft.
Young team members earn the majority share (80%) of project labor costs, with experienced members receiving 20%.
Team members have priority to purchase the homes they help build, at cost.

Role Description
An Affordable Homeownership Champion is an unpaid volunteer role, unless actively participating in construction work, in which case compensation comes from the experienced members portion (20%) of labor costs.
Champions can contribute in one or more of the following ways:
1. Help future homeowners, including yourself, plan to work, save, build credit, invest in land, support the construction of starter homes, and prepare for homeowner.
2. Support or supervise construction teams (ideal for teachers, retirees, tradespeople, or business professionals) building starter homes, especially part-time or during summer.
3. If you own land or a home and need a shed or smaller home built, consider placing an order through our project teams. Shed reference $35/sqft. Home within 1400 sqft reference $120/sqft
4. Help connect us with organizations offering grants or low-interest loans for our land revolving fund.
5. If you can put money into our revolving fund as a loan, let’s talk.
6. Help design starter homes that are attractive, efficient, using lower cost materials, and easier to build especially for less experienced youths.

Join the Refugee Youth Mentoring (RYM) Program at Church World Service – Houston and make a lasting impact in the lives of refugee and immigrant youth!

Through this six-month mentoring program, volunteer mentors are matched with youth (ages 15–24) who are working toward academic, career, and life goals as they adjust to life in Houston.

As a mentor, you’ll meet with your assigned youth once a month (in-person or virtual) and participate in group mentoring sessions and community activities that build confidence, connection, and leadership.

What You’ll Do:

Meet with youth 1x/month for six months.

Support educational and career goals through mentoring.

Participate in monthly group mentoring and community activities.

SHARE! is looking for caring adults or families to host international exchange students for the upcoming school year or semester.   Hosting a SHARE! exchange student fosters lifelong friendships and deeper understanding of other cultures.  

Host families provide a bed, meals, as well as friendship, understanding, and a desire to share their American way of life.  All students speak English, are covered by medical insurance and have spending money for their personal expenses. They attend the high school closest to their host family's home and hope to arrive in August.  

Families are able to choose their own boy or girl.  SHARE! students come from more than twenty five different countries such as:

This summer, support those experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Houston by providing hot weather bags. Your contribution can make a significant impact, offering essential items that provide relief from the intense heat.

Below is a list of recommended items that can help bring comfort and protection during Houston's scorching summer months:

Hot Weather Bags:

We kindly ask that volunteers purchase the materials and assemble the bags independently. Please note that CFTH does not host events for assembling these bags unless specified in the description.

We are seeking a volunteer(s) to help support fundraising and community engagement efforts. This role supports the sustainability of our mission by helping grow donations, strengthen donor relationships, and identify new funding opportunities.

Responsibilities include:

• Coordinating fundraising efforts in collaboration with the team

• Engaging with community supporters

• Researching and assisting with grant opportunities and proposal writing

• Identifying new revenue and partnership opportunities

In need of a Marketing Manager to help with our marketing strategies, social media postings (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok) and creating flyers and brochures for activities, and workshops. Looking for someone willing to commit to the time they are able to do. We are lookin for 5 - 10 hours per week. 

In need of a Fundraising Manager to help with our fundraising strategies. Looking for someone willing to commit to the time they are able to do. We are lookin for 5 - 10 hours per week. Our organization is in its early stages and we are in dire need of help to do some mini fundraising coordination to help the founder with the necessary overhead costs of our programs. 

We are looking for an intern and also volunteers who love animals and have a social media account. Our social media intern would focus on social media campaigns while our volunteers can help with one or all of the below!

- taking videos at shelter events if you do not want to be remote/want interaction with animals
Remote:
- taking videos of your own animals
- creating cute videos inside instagram or facebook for social media posting
- creating collaborative posts with partner animal rescues
- create and manage a new tik tok account
- get approval on new ideas and run with them
- repost from other nonprofit animal accounts
- share a story on instagram/fb daily
- set up a social media strategy

In person:
- volunteer at animal events like the doodle romp on 3/29
- walk dogs at partner shelters
- take photos/videos of foster dogs for their adoption posts
- hang flyers in approved retail locations

Remote tasks, including but not limited to
- collaborate with partner rescues
- check meowpups.org for mistakes
- create social media posts
- take videos of your own animals to be used
- create flyers
- spreading the word
- reposting, commenting, liking social media posts
- help with event planning
- help with volunteer coordination 
- contact vet offices
- provide opinions on new campaigns and products

We are looking for an intern 15 and older who loves animals and is very comfortable talking to new people on the phone, composing emails, and possibly messaging on social media.

Our partnerships coordinator would focus on reaching out to new and existing nonprofit partners and working with event volunteers   - reach out to existing and new nonprofit partners 

- reach out to businesses via phone and email  - maybe messaging on social media, but not required
