Get dirty helping grow the Bay!

The Gessner Center is Galveston Bay Foundation’s new visitor hub in Kemah, TX. It will be home to our aquatic nursery program—where we grow and prepare wetland plants that are critical to restoring habitat, improving water quality, and supporting the long-term health of Galveston Bay.

As an Aquatic Nursery Volunteer, you will assist GBF staff with hands-on plant care.

Depending on the needs of the nursery, may help with watering, weeding, trimming, shifting plants, repotting wetland plants, and removing algae buildup from nursery ponds.

Some workdays may also include planting in our wetland pools and will be communicated in advance.

If you would like to help rotate or retrieve plants from the aquatic pools, you are encouraged to bring tall rubber boots.

By caring for nursery plants that will be used in restoration, you directly support healthier wetlands and a healthier Galveston Bay.

No experience is necessary. Staff will show you everythingyou need to know. Be prepared to walk across uneven terrain. Restrooms will be available onsite.

Expect to get dirty and muddy!

Join Black United Fund of Texas for a hands-on volunteer event where we’ll assemble care kits for community members in need. Volunteers will help pack essential items like dental care supplies, hand sanitizer, wipes, band-aids, and include a handwritten note to add a personal touch of encouragement.
This is a meaningful and easy way to make a direct impact in a short amount of time, and all ages are welcome. Donations for care kit bags and supplies will be accepted during the event but are not required to sign up—your time and heart are what matter most!

What kind of adult did you need when you were younger?

Rising Oaks Youth Enrichment Program, through Christ Rose Foundation, is inviting volunteers to serve as core team members who will be a steady, positive presence for children impacted by a parent’s incarceration. Through guided activities, group discussion, life skills practice, and Christ-centered encouragement, you will help the youth grow in confidence, character, and resilience. Since relationships matter from the very beginning, we personally connect with every applicant through a brief meet-and-greet interview before onboarding to ensure a great fit for both our volunteers and our youth. If you are consistent, compassionate, teachable, and ready to serve with purpose, we would love to meet you. Apply today and help our youth grow strong, grounded, and growing.

Join the staff of Cornerstone Family Resource Center as we distribute healthy food and produce to families in need.  We expect to distribute fresh produce and other items to over 150 families and we NEED YOUR HELP!  This is a drive-through food distribution. Help us support our neighbors in CFISD by serving in our Community Food Pantry! Volunteers play a hands-on role in ensuring families receive nutritious food by stocking, sorting, and distributing food in a welcoming and respectful environment.  We are seeking individuals who can commit to a regular schedule. No prior experience is necessary—just a heart to serve.   Bi-lingual Spanish and Vietnamese are especially encouraged to volunteer.

We distribute food every Tuesday morning and Thursday morning/afternoon for senior clients.  Help is needed to gather the food and deliver to their cars.  You can volunteer for shifts from 10am-1pm on Tuesdays or 10am-12pm on Thursdays.  We are in particular need for volunteers on Tuesdays.  We ask for a commitment to volunteer 2-4 times per month.  There is typically no heavy lifting, just putting items into a grocery cart and taking it to the clients' cars.  Please join us!

Everyone is welcome to participate in Shamba Days. You’ll help with whatever the farm may need... mulching, weeding, planting, harvesting, and more!

Shamba Ya Amani, the Farm of Peace, is working for justice by feeding our community, both body and soul. We feed the body by growing vegetables and fruit, raising honeybees, and tending flowers. We feed the soul by building this farm together, forming a connection to each other and to the earth we are cultivating.

As an Application Advisor, you play a crucial role in helping our students submit outstanding job applications. Using the Application Feedback Form and the guidelines provided, you will review, proofread, and offer detailed suggestions to ensure each application meets the highest standards of professionalism. Volunteers will receive 1-3 applications per session to review, helping clients craft "pristine" applications that set them up for success in their job search.

This volunteer opportunity occurs three times a month, aligning with each JSA class cycle, and is conducted entirely electronically. Applications are sent out on Wednesdays, and reviewed submissions must be emailed back by 8:00 AM the following Wednesday. This one-week turnaround is vital as student training programs operate on a tight schedule. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out!

You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. This event raises funds to help carry out our mission for helping those who are homeless and experiencing financial difficulty. The evening consists of dinner, dancing, live entertainment, a silent and live auction, raffles, and more. We will need volunteers to staff check-in, assist with raffles, live auction and other areas of need.

Assist in prepping and distributing groceries to families in need. This may include stocking the food pantry, sorting donated items for quality and bagging groceries for individual families, as well as helping families get groceries into their cars. Volunteers may also assist clients to fill out required information for the Houston Food Bank.

The food pantry hosts clients on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

To assist with Tuesday drive-thru distributions, please go to Houston Food Fair Helpers (Tuesdays). To assist with Saturday drive-thru distributions, please go to Houston Food Fair Helpers (Saturdays).

Accounts will be created for new volunteers at www.catholiccharities.org/volunteer. Qualifications must be completed before beginning first shift.

Volunteers aged 14 and older must sign up for shifts themselves. Parents please do not sign up on behalf of your teenagers. Youth waivers must be signed by parent/guardian prior to beginning first shift.

Help refugees take the first step toward U.S. citizenship by joining our team as a Civics Outreach Volunteer. 

In this role, you’ll make phone calls to clients to share information about our free civics classes, which help prepare adults for the citizenship exam. Your calls help ensure more people can access the resources they need to succeed.

At the GBF EcoCenter Greenhouse, staff & volunteers cultivate native plants to restore & manage native coastal tallgrass prairies in four counties that surround Galveston Bay.

Every Thursday and Saturday, 8-11:00 am volunteers work in our native plant nursery to help heal one of America’s rarest and most endangered landscapes: the Coastal Tallgrass Prairie.

This is not just gardening – this work creates homes for wildlife and builds a natural shield against floods; you’re growing a legacy for future generations.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, Hope Impacts partners with Cross Road Church to offer the opportunity for the homeless community of Katy to come and have supper, fellowship together, take a shower, and receive necessities and clothes.  We need volunteers to help us facilitate this program. Calling people of all faiths, or no faith at all, to care for our common home in a beach clean-up in Surfside! We will remove trash polluting a shoreline at Surfside Beach, helping to protect and restore our beautiful Gulf. This event will offer activities for all ages and skill levels, so bring the whole family! Supplies will be provided. You just need a reusable water bottle and closed-toe shoes. This beach clean-up is organized by the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston in partnership with the Village of Surfside Beach. Registration for this event is limited and required for participation. Specific meeting location in Surfside Beach will be sent to all registrants several days prior to the event. Love to drive and navigate your way through the Greater Houston Area? Then become a volunteer driver for Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center!

In this role, you will retrieve, transport, and deliver blood samples from area crossmatch facilities to our headquarters located behind NRG Stadium, using a company vehicle. All volunteer drivers will go through a volunteer orientation, background check, drug screen, road test and complete defensive driving training provided by The Blood Center to ensure the safety of the volunteers as well as the products. Volunteer drivers are asked to commit to 2-4 driving shifts per months with a four hour per shift minimum. Volunteer drivers will receive materials about the program and its policies, essential contact information, a T-shirt, and a personalized volunteer badge. Their shift will begin at the Hospital Services department, where they will sign in and receive their vehicle and route assignments.

This three-day camp is designed for young girls ages 12-15. Through fun-filled activities we provide a positive atmosphere for recreation and self-expression. Our challenge course activities emphasize self-respect, self-worth, teamwork, and trust in a safe environment. Activities include: arts and crafts, fishing, archery, kayaking, swimming, relationship building, talent shows, and special games and events that include a dance and/or talent shows. On the last day, each girl leaves TRAC with all camp adventures documented in a souvenir photo album along with notes of love and encouragement.  Volunteer photographers capture images and decorate keepsakes for every girl, which for many, may be their only childhood memories captured and in their possession. Positions Available:

Want to get outdoors and lead people? Friends of Woodland Park (FWP) is looking for 4-6 people to manage logistics and materials for park work days. Volunteers annually remove 10-15,000 pounds of trash from the Little White Oak Bayou floodplain within Woodland Park.

FWP usually sponsors 7 community work days annually (Jan, Feb, Mar, April, Sept, Oct, Nov) plus Earth Day (corporate weekday event, April).  Scout projects may also require support. 

Friends of Woodland Park is an all volunteer organization and this is a volunteer opportunity. 

Expectations:

Cleanups are generally held on Saturday mornings, with occasional weekday cleanups for corporate groups. 

With help from the Green Team Leads and FWP board, team members will identify supplies and tools needed using provided checklists. Supplies generally include FWP Flags, canopy, info kit, table cloth, gloves, trash grabbers, trash bags, water coolers and cups, snacks, first aid kit, bug spray and hand sanitizer. Tools such as shovels and wheel barrows are borrowed from and returned to Houston Tool Bank. 

Team members will gather equipment from storage located at 2515 Washington Avenue and any other supplies (such as snacks) and ensure that committee members can receive them on clean-up day or prior.  

Set up the supply distribution area and check-in table at Woodland Park Community Center located at 212 Parkview St. 

Check-in volunteer participants (participants will register on volunteerhouston.org where they will agree to a liability waiver). Provide Park history overview and safety/procedure briefing to participants.

Volunteer support needed to help direct patrons to the different family-friendly lobby activities and with general wayfinding, as well as line control for some of the activities if required (for example, at the facepainting or poetry busking station).

Duty Officers are the backbone of our disaster response serving as the dispatchers for the American Red Cross Disaster Action Teams. They are the steady support and command presence that guides and backs up our response teams. Virtual Training is easily accessible and provided by the American Red Cross. Help Mesa Outreach retrieve donations from local grocery stores.  We need help on Mondays and Thursdays, 9am until complete, usually around 11 am.  You can volunteer as many days as you prefer, even a once-a-month commitment will help.  Volunteers need to be able to lift 50 pounds (most boxes are less) and have a truck.  Stores are 2-12 miles away. 

This food helps us feed our client families each month and is a vital part in making our mission work for our community.  

If you're compassionate, fluent in English, and can volunteer a couple times per week, we want YOU to help a group of Houston adults learn to speak English. You'll meet some amazing people, experience the joy and fulfillment of helping others succeed, and know that you're making Houston a better place for us all.

Classes meet in-person Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, and volunteers are especially needed 9am - 11am and 6:30pm - 8:30pm.

NO prior teaching experience or second language is required. If this volunteer opportunity is for you, we'll train you, match you with a group of adult learners, and support you as you get started on the exciting and hugely rewarding activity of helping your neighbors learn English as a second (or third!) language (ESL).

Volunteer opportunities at our Resale Store include assisting customers, operating the cash register, helping the cashier, or organizing and restocking the store. As a Warehouse volunteer, you would help sort and price incoming donations in one of our most needed areas. 

The sales from MAM's Resale Store & Boutique bring in over $2 million each year, supporting more than 20% of MAM’s budget. This funding helps us partner with hardworking Houstonians to build hope, stability, and well-being through education, employment, resources, and relationships.
