The Holiday Project provides volunteers with opportunities to let people in need know that they haven’t been forgotten and to brighten their lives by brightening their day! (For example, a Christmas card that says "Merry Christmas" on the front and "Wishing you all the joy of the season" or other similar sayings that are creative and/or festive inside would be fine.  Similarly, a Mother's Day card that says "Happy Mother's Day" and "The Best to You on this Special Day" would be fine, but sentiments such as "To a Great Mom" should be avoided, since not everyone visited in connection with Mother's Day has been a mother.)
•Please don't enclose or attach candy to the cards. (Logistically speaking, it's usually not practical for the visit-volunteers to separate out such cards and determine which recipients are permitted to have candy.)
•It's preferable that the cards not be in envelopes. (Some of the recipients suffer from advanced arthritis or other conditions that make the simple act of removing a card from an envelope quite difficult.)
•Please don't put a date on the cards. (We occasionally have a surplus of cards for a given occasion, in which case we simply pack up the excess cards and use them for the same holiday the next year.)
•Cards should be signed by the persons making them. Any signature should probably include just the signer's first name or first names of group... AccentCare Hospice is piloting a Virtual Reality Experience Program for hospice patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Alvin Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. Be a big part of NAMI Gulf Coast's mission is providing mental health education and support to individuals and families impacted by mental illness as well as the professionals who assist them. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in being trained to facilitate local online support groups and teaching mental health education courses. 

 

Training and curriculum will be provided. You just need to have a passion for people, be comfortable with public speaking, and have a lived experienced with mental illness (rather as a family member, friend, or own experience); we provide the rest! As the day program grew, so did the feeling she could do more. She felt the calling to create a program where young adults could continue to grow in their independence and skills. S.T.E.P.S. provides vocational, independent living, and social skills through hands-on experience.

The continued increase of individuals with intellectual, physical, and emotional disabilities has created an even greater need for programs for these individuals following high school. Texas has one of the highest populations of individuals with disabilities at 12.9%, most of whom live in Houston and the surrounding gulf coast region. Our local community, Deer Park, comprises 7.9% of individuals with disabilities, while the surrounding communities of Pasadena and La Porte have 8.1% and 11.6%, respectively. With your support, our program can grow and provide additional opportunities to adults in our community.

The Freeman Bookstore regularly needs new volunteers to those who leave for a variety of reasons. Volunteers sell, straighten, and shelve books. Volunteers must be able to learn Square point-of-sale technology. Shifts are 2½ hours Monday through Saturday. Most shifts are currently staffed by incumbent volunteers. The remainder are on a substitute list. Substitutes normally have ample opportunities to work when open shifts occur.

A good match for people with knowledge of books &/or who have experience working in a bookstore or library. Sales experience is a plus.

Volunteers must be able to learn Square point-of-sale technology. Shifts are 2½ hours Monday through Saturday. Most shifts are currently staffed by incumbent volunteers. The remainder are on a substitute list. Substitutes normally have ample opportunities to work when open shifts occur.

A good match for people with knowledge of books &/or who have experience working in a bookstore or library. Sales experience is a plus.

Summer Teen Volunteer Program

Volunteers in our summer teen volunteer program are focused on supporting our Operations and Education programs.  They may serve in one of three different areas:

Guest Experience Team – These volunteers engage guests in the museum with short presentations at exhibits and other guest service roles. Explorer Camps – Teens serve as classroom assistants in camps for children 4-11 years old. They prepare materials, assist with classroom activities, and escort campers throughout the museum. Space Center University – Teens serve as classroom assistants for our engineering-focused Space U camps. Volunteers for Space U must be at least 15 years old.

NEW!  Summer teen volunteers that meet their commitment will be able to volunteer throughout the fall semester at weekend and evening events.

Teen Volunteer Program Requirements Teen volunteers must be no less than 13 years of age by May 30, 2023. Teen volunteers may not be older than 17 years of age by May 30, 2023. Must be available to volunteer for 3 full weeks (Monday – Friday, 8 am to 3:30 pm) between May 30 and August 11.  Weeks do not need to be consecutive. Guest Experience Team – These volunteers engage guests in the museum with short presentations at exhibits and other guest service roles. Explorer Camps – Teens serve as classroom assistants in camps for children 4-11 years old. They prepare materials, assist with classroom activities, and escort campers throughout the museum. Space Center University – Teens serve as classroom assistants for our engineering-focused Space U camps. Volunteers for Space U must be at least 15 years old.

They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Conroe Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. The Recovery Services Client Care Program allows the Red Cross to rapidly meet disaster-caused needs by enabling clients to apply and receive financial assistance and/or community resources. The Client Care Program Service Associate supports the recovery of disaster affected individuals, households, and communities by providing referrals, advocacy, and financial assistance through RC Care (case management system). Responsibilities: Conduct Intake by interviewing the client and opening a case in RC Care Provide Financial Assistance to qualified clients. Conduct Follow-up and Recovery Planning Services Provide Internal Referrals Provide Community Referrals Assist with problem-solving and advocacy on request Use RC Care to document services according to the Client Care Program Standards and Procedures Services may be provided in person or virtually. Girls are looking for meaningful ways to connect now more than ever, and that’s where you come in! For girls in grades 3-12, we want to include an inspiring element of connection in our Spark Kits - Relatable Role Model Letters.

So what are Relatable Role Model Letters? These page-long letters written by Girls Empowerment Network volunteers aim to inspire, encourage, uplift, and celebrate girls throughout our community. During the last several months, many of us have felt disconnected, distant, or isolated from others. Relatable Role Model Letters provide volunteers and girls a unique way of communicating and feeling connected.

What should be included in my letters?

The letter should be one page in length. Volunteers are asked to write a minimum of 5 different letters. We are currently asking for handwritten letters as this provides a personalized and meaningful touch.  We recommend taking 1-2 weeks max to complete your letters. We welcome decorations, colors, markers, and stickers! We suggest using a variety of bright and bold colors. Letter recipients are girls in grades 3-8 and grades 6-12 (roughly 8-13 years old and 11-18 years old). You will be able to choose which age demographic you'd like to write letters to. Share a memory from middle or high school when you were brave, kind, or used your voice to advocate for yourself or others. Write an acrostic poem using words like girl, power, bravery, strength, etc. Create fun doodles that can be colored in and decorated. Write about how you utilize the Six Cs in your life: How are you creative?  What are your favorite coping skills?  What makes you feel confident? Who do you enjoy collaborating with?  What makes you feel like a courageous communicator?  How do you exercise your critical thinking skills?

Conversation Club will be a gathering of adult refugees and asylees who are intermediate-level English students seeking to improve their spoken English ability.   Duties/Responsibilities:

Volunteers will lead a group of about 5 students in an online Zoom discussion of various conversation topics. Topics and questions will be provided – the volunteer will only need to facilitate the conversation and give the students space to practice speaking. 

Requirements:

We ask that volunteers be 18 years or older and have basic English proficiency and comprehension skills. Volunteers will need to have a strong desire to improve the English language skills of students along with have a sensitivity to cultural difference. Having great patience, understanding, flexibility, and a positive attitude is key!

The primary purpose of the Director, Corporate/Foundation Relations is to promote and support the mission of the Development Division through seeking foundation and corporate foundation dollars. The Director will be a seasoned leader excited about building outreach and expanding the portfolio for foundation giving as part of the Harvey Nexus campaign.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

 

Portfolio management/expansion

Engage in qualification, strategy and relationship building with national foundations and corporate foundation entities, with a view toward sustained transformational giving over time. The individual's portfolio will be a mix of larger-capacity grant-making foundations and corporate foundations whose mission and strategic giving aligns with Harvey Nexus  Strategy and activities. 

 

The size and mix of the portfolio will be based on the needs of the team and the division's strategic focus over the period of the campaign.

 

Steward relationships with current and proposed institutional partners, guided by regular portfolio review and team-driven strategy for continued giving.

 

Participate and strategically outline activities, proposal preparation, strategy development and solicitation executed within a 12 - 24 month timeframe.

 

Work collaboratively, proactively and in a professional service-oriented manner with all institutional internal and external stakeholders and representing the core values of the institution.

 

Shoulder the responsibility to ensure data integrity and communication related to assigned foundations and corporations: research collaboration kickoff process for new relationships, grant acceptance due diligence, briefing the team on key terms and obligations from the support, entering information in CRM, and ensuring everyone knows and understands their roles and responsibilities in the partnership or grant acceptance agreement.

Work with the Board of Directors, President and Vice President to create investigation, approach and solicitation strategies for assigned targeted foundations. Develop a broad and deep understanding of current fundraising priorities across the institution, as outlined by the President, and the Executive Leadership or as envisioned as part of Harvey Nexus  Strategy.

 

Work with the leadership team and other stakeholders and faculty leaders across the organization on targeted top-tier foundations and corporate foundations: creating an annual plan for each assigned foundation based on strategy that includes key leadership champion/s and volunteer/board connections; thoughtful solicitation at the right time; and continuation of relationship for deeper relationship building over time.

 

People and Program Management

 

Work closely with the Executive Team to drive the strategic growth of the FCR program, focusing on expansion of portfolio with new/unengaged top foundations. 

 

The individual has to create and foster a collaborative work environment among different groups across the institution and within the Division.

 

Manage Assistant Director(s) - 1-2 volunteers to join the team and possibly more in the future, as hiring proceeds to support the expansion of the program, ensuring that individual's professional growth, effectively and mentoring to prioritize workload to meet constantly changing demands and policy adherence.

 

Manage and prepare reporting of direct reports' progress in achieving annual fundraising goals and objectives.
