Volunteer: Men, help support and empower other male caregivers!

Almost two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer's are women, meaning lots of men are caring for their wives and sons for their mothers. People age 65 and older survive an average of four to eight years after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, yet some live as long as 20 years.

Make a difference! We provide all the materials for those interested in educating in the community. In addition, we're seeking someone to train and pair with an experienced facilitator for a men's caregiver support group that will start meeting in The Woodlands.

Interested? Complete the Alzheimer's Association Volunteer Interest Survey at bit.ly/alz-vol-interest today!

Our volunteers deliver support and education, raise funds, advocate for Alzheimer’s and more to help achieve our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia(r). Whatever your skills, whatever time you have, we have in-person and virtual opportunities to provide vital support for people living with Alzheimer's and their families.

Volunteer: Caring Volunteers needed for Hospice Patients in the Humble Area

Volunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients.

We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Humble Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. Thank you.

Volunteer: Adopt-a-Trail (for groups)

The Adopt-A-Trail program is an opportunity for conservation-minded groups of all sizes and types to sponsor a section of Jones Park’s extensive trail system by controlling invasive non-native plants and conducting routine trail maintenance. ANY group can help! For example, scouts, schools, church groups, home-school groups, conservation organizations, companies in need of volunteer hours for their employees, etc. There is no maximum or minimum size group.

Groups will be assigned a section of Jones Park’s trail system, based on the size and ability of the group. Each group will be asked to commit to conducting one-half workday (about 4 hours) every three months to remove any invasive plants. Sponsoring groups will be asked to commit to maintaining a section of trail for a minimum of one year.

No experience is necessary. Your first workday begins with a short training session in invasive plant identification and removal methods.

In addition to receiving a custom laser-etched sign designating your section of adopted trail, each group will be helping Jones Park remain in a natural and native state. Not only will future visitors to the park benefit from your efforts, the native wildlife will benefit from the removal of invasive plant species.

For more information and to RSVP, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Brent Wilkins at 281-446-8588 or bwilkins@hcp4.net.

Volunteer: Invasives Beware

One of our goals at Jones Park is to support native wildlife by returning the forest to its native state. Historically, this area was a mix of prairies and woodlands with a more open understory. This ecosystem is dependent on disturbance, which at one time would have been provided by bison grazing and fires caused by either lightning, indigenous people, or settlers. The exclusion of these disturbances has created unregulated growth of invasive plant species that choke out native trees and grasses.

By manually removing the overgrown and non-native plants, we can recreate the effect of natural disturbances like grazing and fire. This allows for regeneration of the historical understory and mid-story vegetation, which can then be supported by planting of additional native trees. Increasing native plant diversity leads to an increase in the diversity of insect species, which then results in an increase in the diversity of birds and small mammals, too.

Join the Jesse Jones Park Eradicators to remove invasive plant species and restore native habitats of Jones Park. Invasives Beware! meets in the Nature Center at 9 a.m. on the third Saturday of every month.

Volunteer: Hospice Patients needing Haircuts

If you enjoy cutting hair and want to help in the community, our hospice patients could use your skill! Right now I have a Veteran that is used to having a military cut and he has not been able to get a haircut in some months and would feel so much better right now with something as simple as a buzz cut. This need would be in the Baytown area, however, we have many other patients that would enjoy getting a hair cut any time all over our service area.

Volunteer: Bird Feeder HANGERS now Needed

With the great response we have had to people building bird feeders for our Hospice patients, we are now needing some hangers to place in yards to put the feeders on.  The majority of our patients do have trees in their yards that I can hang them on, however we have several that do not have trees outside of their window visible from their beds.

The poles can be metal, wooden, it doesn't matter what its made out of as long as I can stake it in the yard and hang a feeder onto it.

If you would like to help our hospice patients watch the birds outside their windows, please let me know.

Volunteer: Caring Volunteers needed for Hospice Patients in the Friendswood Area

Our offices are in the S Houston and Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Friendswood Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. Thank you.

Volunteer: Grant Writer

We are looking for a grant writer passionate about our mission. Below is a brief description. If you have experience writing grants we would love to have you on our team!!

Nonprofit grant writers prepare grant proposals, beginning by performing research. To develop their proposals, grant writers familiarize themselves with an organization's programs, goals, and financial needs. They also look into potential funding sources. After compiling all the information they need, grant writers compose and send their proposals.

Grant writers must also keep careful records to track their proposals. If a grant-making organization requests additional information, nonprofit grant writers supply the missing items. In some nonprofits, grant writers have additional duties, which may include managing volunteers, working with an executive board, planning fund-raising campaigns and promoting the organization through public relations work.

Please take a moment to check out our website and learn more about us!
