Mission in Motion is a special opportunity for volunteers to put our mission into action by supporting the behind-the-scenes work that allows our programs to thrive. This Holiday Season make a difference in a teen's life by SHAREing your heart & home with a high school exchange student! Volunteers, with or without children at home, are needed to host teenage boys and girls from Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mongolia, Japan, and several other countries. Families can review student applications and choose the boy or girl that matches their family. SHARE! students speak English, come medically insured, and have their own spending money for personal expenses. They attend the host family’s local high school for a school year or semester.

ROCK Wellness Weekend 2026 is a two day event hosted by The AIP BIPOC Network focused on health equity, chronic illness, and practical support for underserved communities.

The weekend includes two distinct experiences. The ROCK Summit is a learning focused day designed for healthcare professionals, wellness practitioners, and community health workers. ROCK the Block is a community health and resource expo centered on movement, activities, and connection.

Volunteers are essential to making this weekend run smoothly. Roles include event setup and breakdown, registration and check in, attendee flow and wayfinding, movement and activity area support, and general event assistance. Volunteer needs span both days of the weekend.

All volunteers are required to attend one of two virtual logistics meetings prior to the event. A recording and written summary will be made available for those unable to attend live. Final roles and schedules will be shared closer to the event and are subject to change.

WHAM is focused on helping those in crisis return to self-sustainability.  Our pantry distributes nutritious food Tuesday - Friday.  On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, our clients have appointments to shop inside the pantry to choose the food they want from the stocked shelves, refrigerators and freezers.  We need volunteers to advise clients of the allotted number of items, help load/unload carts and keep the shelves stocked, as well as sort and package fresh produce and food items. We have 120+ clients scheduled a day.

The Houston ToolBank is seeking reliable and enthusiastic volunteers to help with wood cutting and preparation for our build projects, including picnic tables, garden beds, and other community-enhancing structures.

As part of our Wood Cutting & Prep Crew, you will:

Use tools like table saws and miter saws to make accurate, basic cuts

Prepare lumber and materials needed for builds

Help organize and stage cut pieces for crew use

Assist with light cleanup around the workspace

Healthy bird populations are an indicator of a healthy Bay.

Join the Galveston Bay Foundation for a monthly bird survey led by Texas Master Naturalist and Lead GBF Volunteer, Lisa Hardcastle, at Sweetwater Preserve, a 140-acre GBF property that is not open to the public. This restored site includes coastal prairie, estuarine marsh, salt flats, freshwater wetlands, brackish wetlands, and coastal woodlots, which support a wide variety of resident and migratory birds.

All levels of birders are welcome! Bring your own binoculars and field gear.

Surveys take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 a.m. at the end of 103rd Street in Galveston. From there, participants will drive short distances to three survey areas. The survey typically lasts three to four hours, but volunteers may leave early if needed.

No restrooms on site. Conditions can vary, so wear closed-toe shoes (boots recommended) and bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of water.

DATA COLLECTION
Survey results will be submitted to GBF staff and eBird, and the eBird list will be shared with all registered participants. These data help document species use of restored coastal habitat in the Galveston Bay watershed.

We need your help to keep great books accessible to communities 24/7. Visit Little Free Libraries in your community to distribute books! 

We can suggest where to look for free or inexpensive books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app. Volunteers over 18 anywhere in the U.S. where there are Little Free Libraries can register for this opportunity.

Communities are hungry for books! Help Little Free Library fulfill its mission of book access for everyone by coordinating a local book drive. This is a flexible volunteer opportunity. You can coordinate your book drive during the times that work best for you and your community.

Do you know how to repair a bike? Freewheels Houston volunteers repair bikes that will be given to refugees, veterans emerging from homelessness and young people from low-income families to enable them to get to work or school and explore the city.

We use a repair checklist developed with input from a master bike technician. If you don’t know all the systems, our volunteers enjoy sharing their knowledge and can help get you up to speed. By ensuring a smooth and organized start to the event, you directly expand our ability to clean up more waste and increase the impact Trash Bash® has on the health of Galveston Bay.

Serving the registration area requires business casual attire, and HBCU paraphernalia is welcomed.

The Community Engagement Ambassador position strengthens WorkFaith’s presence in the community by helping us build awareness and connect with individuals and potential partner organizations who may benefit from our programs. Community Engagement Ambassadors will represent WorkFaith at resource fairs, outreach events, and in everyday interactions, sharing our mission and introducing people to the opportunities we offer.

By engaging with community members, partners, and local organizations, Community Engagement Ambassadors help expand our reach and support our mission of empowering individuals through faith-based job readiness training. Their involvement ensures consistent visibility for WorkFaith and creates meaningful connections that benefit both our clients and the broader community.

Join the Refugee Youth Mentoring (RYM) Program at Church World Service – Houston and make a lasting impact in the lives of refugee and immigrant youth!

Through this six-month mentoring program, volunteer mentors are matched with youth (ages 15–24) who are working toward academic, career, and life goals as they adjust to life in Houston.

As a mentor, you’ll meet with your assigned youth once a month (in-person or virtual) and participate in group mentoring sessions and community activities that build confidence, connection, and leadership.

Young Homeowners League is a 501c3 nonprofit to empower high schoolers and other youths to work, save, buy land, build starter homes, and become young homeowners.
Revolving fund will be used to acquire lower priced land to develop into lots, with target cost $30k each.
Our first focus area is within the City of Houston with sewer line, and our second is communities within a one-hour commute of Houston.
We organize youths into project teams with experienced members to build starter homes, 1000 to 1400 sqft size, starting $120/sqft.
Young team members earn the majority share (80%) of project labor costs, with experienced members receiving 20%.
Team members have priority to purchase the homes they help build, at cost.

Role Description
An Affordable Homeownership Champion is an unpaid volunteer role, unless actively participating in construction work, in which case compensation comes from the experienced members portion (20%) of labor costs.
Champions can contribute in one or more of the following ways:
1. Help future homeowners, including yourself, plan to work, save, build credit, invest in land, support the construction of starter homes, and prepare for homeowner.
2. Support or supervise construction teams (ideal for teachers, retirees, tradespeople, or business professionals) building starter homes, especially part-time or during summer.
3. If you own land or a home and need a shed or smaller home built, consider placing an order through our project teams. Shed reference $35/sqft. Home within 1400 sqft reference $120/sqft
4. Help connect us with organizations offering grants or low-interest loans for our land revolving fund.
5. If you can put money into our revolving fund as a loan, let’s talk.
6. Help design starter homes that are attractive, efficient, using lower cost materials, and easier to build especially for less experienced youths.

Our mentoring program is designed to support the growth of our students on the fields, in school, and in life. Mentors are matched with a SpringSpirit participant in grades 3-12 and commit to meet in person at least once a month.  Mentors must submit to a background check and go through an orientation process before being matched with a mentee.  2 locations in Northern Spring Branch.  

The HMC is proud to be home to soccer programs for our refugee youth. The Eagles (boys) and The Golden Eagles (girls).

The teams meet and play on the first and third Saturdays of each month, at the IndoorSoccerBox, located at 1530 W Sam Houston Pkwy N. Beginning in November, we'll be meeting at Burnett Bayland Park in Southwest Houston.

We are looking for someone with soccer experience to serve as a referee and informal coach to help facilitate 1 hour of girls soccer. It is a very casual league, the girls would benefit from the experience of someone 18+.

Hospital opportunities are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Clinic opportunities are available from Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm

This role would include a myriad of intensive training, background checks, and team support. In this role, a volunteer would provide compassionate support and education in regard to pregnancy and parenting.
