Summary:

As a volunteer with the R&P program, you will support the case management team in helping newly arrived refugees during their initial resettlement period. Responsibilities include assisting with documentation, organizing case files, helping with core service delivery (such as arranging transportation and setting up housing), and performing light administrative tasks. Volunteers will also assist with preparing materials for cultural orientation sessions and help clients with the completion of paperwork related to public benefits and social services. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in refugee services and social work.

As a PC program volunteer, you will assist in providing intensive case management (ICM) services to vulnerable refugee populations, including those with medical needs, disabilities, or social adjustment issues. You will support case managers in client communication, documentation, and referrals to essential services such as healthcare, employment, and mental health services. Volunteers play an important role in helping vulnerable individuals navigate complex systems and achieve self-sufficiency. This role is ideal for volunteers interested in social work, healthcare navigation, or working with underserved populations.

Possible Tasks:

Volunteers with the MG program will assist in helping newly arrived refugees achieve economic self-sufficiency through employment services. You will support employment counselors in preparing clients for job applications, interviews, and employment readiness. Additionally, volunteers will help with data entry, tracking employment outcomes, and organizing job-related documentation. This role is perfect for those with an interest in workforce development or helping individuals become self-sufficient through employment.

Example Tasks:

- Assist with client job applications, resume building, and interview preparation

- Support employment counselors in organizing job leads and tracking client outcomes

- Help with administrative tasks such as maintaining client case files and data entry

- Provide logistical support for job readiness workshops

The Quality Assurance Support Volunteer will assist in organizing, maintaining, and auditing client case files across multiple programs, including Reception and Placement (R&P), Matching Grant (MG), Preferred Communities (PC) and Social Integration Microenterprises (SIMED). The volunteer will be responsible for ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date, secure, and easily accessible, while also providing language interpretation when needed, supporting data entry, reporting, and system development for efficient file management.

This role involves collaboration with various program teams to ensure adherence to grant requirements, particularly regarding file management and security. The volunteer will also participate in team meetings to contribute to progress reports and help develop strategies for improving quality assurance.

This role offers valuable experience in refugee resettlement, program administration, and compliance management. The volunteer will gain hands-on experience in case management, employment counseling, and the operational side of federally funded refugee programs.

Program Support and Compliance
• File Management: Organize and maintain both physical and electronic client case files. Ensure that documentation for all programs (R&P, MG, PC, etc.) is up to date, easily accessible, and secure.
• Data Entry & Reporting: Perform accurate data entry for case documentation, service provision, and client outcomes when needed. Utilize SharePoint and Refugee Management System to manage data files, generate reports, and track program progress.
• Document Management System Development: Assist in creating and implementing systems to streamline document storage and retrieval processes. Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
• Clerical Support: Provide additional support by preparing reports, memos, and other correspondence. Collaborate with team members to gather necessary data for document audits and other administrative tasks.

Cross-Program Collaboration
• Collaboration with Other Programs: Work with other teams, such as the Reception and Placement (R&P) Matching Grant (MG), Preferred Communities (PC) and Social Integration (SI) to ensure that programs are following grant requirements with respect to file management and security.
• Departmental Meetings: Participate in team meetings to discuss findings, progress reports, and strategies for improving quality assurance.

Key Qualities and Skills:
• Bilingual: Fluency in a second language (e.g. Arabic, Swahili, Spanish, Farsi, etc.) is highly preferred to effectively communicate with the diverse refugee population.
• Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage extensive documentation and comply with federal program requirements.
• Cultural Sensitivity: A deep understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the unique challenges faced by refugees and how to provide compassionate, culturally responsive support.

• Proactive and Reliable: A motivated and reliable individual who can take initiative and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

The ECDC-Houston Multicultural Center will be offering English classes to the newest members of our community. We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate beginner English classes.

The Resale Shop Boutique Assistant is responsible for sorting donations and displaying boutique items. Someone with an eye for designer brands would be ideal!

The Warehouse Food Processor volunteer position includes the following details:

Volunteers are needed for the Texas Challengers Quiz Tournaments (TCQT) middle school and high school Quiz Bowl tournament at Katy High School on Saturday, January 10. Most volunteers will serve as moderators and read questions to the students. Moderators will need to complete a quick 10-15 minute training before volunteering. Volunteers can also serve as scorekeepers. Training for scorekeepers takes about 5 minutes. Free pizza will be provided for lunch. Partial shifts are welcome.

The Lone Star Symphonic Band is a Non-Profit Community Band based in Katy, Texas. We are organizing a non-auditioned community choir for our patriotic concert, to be held on July 2nd, 2023, and are in search of chorus members.

Rehearsals will be one night a week - on Sundays - beginning on June 4th, 2023, from 6 pm - 8 pm. The performance will be on July 2nd, at 4 pm. Rehearsals and the performance will all be at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, 22111 Morton Rd., Katy, TX 77449.

Invest yourself in building relationships with children and help spark their imagination through music, learning activities, play, and creative art activities. Activities are planned and directed by the classroom teacher. (Available times: 8 - 11 am and 3 - 5 pm)

Spend one-on-one time with a child who requires individualized help or attention. Invest in the Prayer, Affirmation, and Love of one specific child. Curriculum and activities will be provided. (Available times: 8 - 11 am and 3 - 5 pm)

Spend time visiting with a group of 2 to 3 children, reading and doing interactive education kits. (Available times: 8 - 11 am and 3 - 5 pm)

Provide general assistance at the centers. This may include: developing and organizing supplies and materials, prepping gifts for teachers and mothers, assisting at any of the above events, helping at graduation, data input, cutting, laminating, printing, filing, snack prep, bulletin board prep, building classroom furniture, cleaning classroom rugs, and other general activities. (Available times: 8 - 5 pm)

Provide support to teachers during lunch and nap time transitions. Volunteers will assist in cleaning up after lunch, sweeping the classroom, wiping down tables, disposing of trash, helping children wash their hands and change their clothes, and patting the children to sleep. (Available times: 11 am to 1 pm)

The foot traffic in our building is constant. Our Lobby Greeter will station at the front reception to greet guests. Small project tasks may be asked of this person. This person must be personable and carry an overall positive attitude. Background check required. Bilingual is a plus, but not required.

West Houston Assistance Ministries has eleven (11) thriving raised beds who need more love and attention. What is grown is distributed through our food pantry and given to our clients to help with food insecurities.  We have several volunteers, including a Master Gardener, who are trying to maintain the demands of the flourishing garden.

WHAM is in need of Pantry Shoppers Tuesday - Thursday from 7:30am - 12:00pm and 12:30pm - 3:30pm to assist our clients shop the pantry shelves, refrigerators and freezer.  We have an additional shift on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday and Thursday of the month from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.  Volunteers would advise the clients the number allowed of each item, help load and unload and restock as needed.

WHAM Homeless Walk-Up Distribution volunteers work at our Walk-up tent every Monday from 7:30am - 10:30am

Tasks include:

WHAM is focused on helping those in crisis return to self-sustainability.  Our pantry distributes to nutritious food Tuesday - Friday.  On Fridays from 7:30am - 12:00pm we host a Drive through Food distribution serving 150 families or more.  Volunteers would assist with any of the following: client intake, direct traffic, load fresh produce and dry goods into trunks of cars, bag fresh produce and other items, and light clean up.

PAIR operates Global Learners programs in three middle schools with significant refugee populations. PAIR volunteer mentors engage students by providing supportive relationships, homework assistance, English language practice, and recreational and creative activities.

Sessions take place after school, 4-6PM. Each session begins with outside games, homework help, and sharing time to transition from the school day. Mentors then break off with a small group of students to work on a lesson or activity centered around a particular theme. Global Learners assists participants in developing more positive attitudes towards school, achieving greater academic success, developing more positive relationships with peers and adults, and continuing their education through high school and beyond.

Volunteering with the Learners program requires a semester-long commitment of 10 program sessions.

WHAM is in need of volunteers to accompany our pantry and resale store drivers to pick up donated furniture and household items as well as donations from local restaurants and grocery stores.  The pantry driver shift is 6:00am - 12:00pm. The resale driver shift is 9:00am - 2:00pm.

The Down Syndrome Association of Houston has a soccer program which meets weekly. We need volunteers to help teach basic skills and to make sure the coaching sessions are fun and fulfilling.

The HMC is proud to be home to soccer programs for our refugee youth. The Eagles (boys) and The Golden Eagles (girls).

The teams meet and play on the first and third Saturdays of each month, at the IndoorSoccerBox, located at 1530 W Sam Houston Pkwy N. Beginning in November, we'll be meeting at Burnett Bayland Park in Southwest Houston.

We are looking for someone with soccer experience to serve as a referee and informal coach to help facilitate 1 hour of girls soccer. It is a very casual league, the girls would benefit from the experience of someone 18+.

MENtorUP is a Saturday mentoring program designed to connect middle and high school young men with positive male role models who can guide, encourage, and inspire them.

Through group discussions, life skills sessions, and shared experiences, mentors help young men develop character, confidence, and a vision for their future. Our sessions include practical topics such as responsibility, leadership, career readiness, and healthy relationships—paired with fun activities like sports, field trips, college trips, retreats, and community service projects.

By showing up consistently, mentors build trust and provide the encouragement these young men need to navigate school, relationships, and life beyond the classroom.

Located right on campus, this garden provides nutritious produce to supplement food distributed to families through a bi-monthly food distribution program. No gardening experience is required—just a willing heart and a pair of helping hands! This opportunity is flexible, with both weekday and weekend times available. All are welcome to be part of this life-giving project that strengthens our community.

They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in the Galleria and Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Richmond Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. We are looking for followers of Jesus who love soccer and are passionate about helping kids develop strong life skills and values. We provide free soccer practice at various local schools in Alief ISD Monday-Thursday 5:00-6:30pm. As a volunteer, you would be working with the head coach to follow the provided practice curriculum. The curriculum guides you through warm ups, soccer technique, drills, and activities. The unique thing about our program is that all of our soccer sessions are based around a Bible story and life value. We use soccer as a tool to instill valuable life lessons about character and personal development into the players. This is why we request that applicants be strongly committed to their Christian faith, because as a coach, you are also a role model. Alzheimer's Association Support Group facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia. This support group will be meeting virtually for the time being.

They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in the Galleria and Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Missouri City Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable.
