Volunteer: Bike MS: Texas MS 150As conditions are slowly improving we are excited to announce that the MS Society’s first in-person event will be a one-day version of our Bike MS: Texas MS 150 event which will be taking place on May 1st. If you are comfortable with it, we would love for your support as we start to transition back to in-person events. Historically, thousands of riders and hundreds of volunteers come together to make our Bike MS: Texas MS 150 event a possibility. While things will look very different this year, we are dedicated towards having a great event that makes a tremendous impact in our fight against MS. The event previously featured a route that started in downtown Houston and finished in downtown Austin. However, this year we are riding on a brand new route! We will have joint starts in both La Grange and Houston which will lead all riders to finish on Kyle Field in College Station! With the event only a few months away, we would love for your help potentially volunteering and in engaging the community as a whole. We will have a variety of volunteer opportunities at our Houston-area start locations and in the weeks leading up to the event. Responsibilities can include anything from site set-up to serving food to organizing the groups of our riders and shifts can be as short as four hours. This event would be a great opportunity to help us launch into our new normal of in-person events while helping those living with MS. If you or anyone you know would be interested in serving with us, feel free to explore our volunteer registration home page. You can use the tabs and/or links found on this page to navigate through the volunteer opportunities and find shift times, role descriptions, the number of volunteers needed, and our COVID-19 protocols. Agency: The National Multiple Sclerosis Society As conditions are slowly improving we are excited to announce that the MS Society’s first in-person event will be a one-day version of our Bike MS: Texas MS 150 event which will be taking place on May 1st. Holidays are the times for connecting … with family…friends…the community at large. Many people are cut off from this connection due to health problems, advanced age, or other circumstances. The Holiday Project provides volunteers with opportunities to let people in need know that they haven’t been forgotten and to brighten their lives by brightening their day! You can make a difference! If you would like to volunteer and brighten your own life, while you brighten the lives of nursing home or assisted living residents, please e-mail Holiday Project Coordinator, Donna Martin, at theholidayprojecthouston@yahoo.com (Donna can also help you make Holiday Project connections outside of the Houston area anywhere in the United States). In an effort to reach more facilities to visit and/or drop off handmade holiday cards in 2020, we are trying something different! In addition to scheduling specific facilities for holiday visits, we are inviting volunteers to search google and find a nursing home or two in your area. Email Donna, the name/names, their phone number and their address to: theholidayprojecthouston@yahoo.com. Donna will contact the activity director* to confirm your visit! You can now choose other holidays throughout the year to plan a visit according to your schedule! Together we CAN make a difference! LOVE.JOY.BLESSINGS. *Some facilities may require you to fill out a volunteer application prior to your visit if you are volunteering as an individual and not as a team! (FYI...You can recruit friends and family to join you to create a team and you can be the team leader...Donna can inform you of minimal team leader details). Volunteer: The Creative Activism Program - Let's help discuss difficult topics!
We wish to give you a voice and offer every student and expressive individual to participate in our Creative Activism Project. Through videos and images with #HTXCreativeActivism, share your thoughts, concerns, and wishes creatively about Social Justice. We invite everyone to contribute through Social Media and submit your pictures/videos/art to our museum. The created artifacts would then be exhibited at our museum.
We, the CCMH, join other Museums in the District to say: We support "Black lives matter." so they can be part of "All lives matter." As a society, we were witnesses of intolerance and are still witnessing injustice against different communities; this concerns religious, gender, class, or race-based groups. We firmly believe that injustice should not be just recognized but be addressed and systematically stopped. But how can it be done constructively? If it concerns the rights of diverse religious, cultural, racial, or LGBTQ communities, it is essential to have a dialog and find ways to address such critical issues. We can't give just a statement because the time requires it but should be able to openly discuss difficult issues such as Social Justice and serve as a platform to provide healthy ways to address our community's and societies' issues.
As part of a beautiful and diverse community, we wish to allow everyone to voice their feelings of structural injustice. Today's technological development and possibilities of communication should be used to build a healthy public. We wish to help our growing community with creative methods to process these difficult subjects that are finally openly addressed.
Join us in our mission to give others a voice, create, and address issues to improve our community! https://youtu.be/HReeKmL-jwU Agency: Czech Center Museum Houston

Volunteer: TWST4Girls Chief Operating Officer***Email a resume and letter of interest to Sydney@TWST4Girls.org*** Duties of TWST4Girls' Chief Operating Officer Planning Nonprofit COO is part of the executive management team and participates in long-term strategic planning meetings. While the Executive Director and board of directors develop broad mission-oriented goals and objectives, the executive management team helps develop the operating strategies to attain those goals. In these meetings, the COO will provide detailed information to team members regarding the performance capabilities of each department, which she has learned through regular meetings with department heads. Monitoring A nonprofit COO works with individual department heads to monitor their work, not only ensuring each function stays on track to meet its goals, but also making sure each department understands its role in relation to the other departments and the nonprofit’s mission. For example, if the marketing, development and human resources all needed the IT department’s help on projects, the COO would make the call as to which department IT would help first. Financial Responsibilities The COO would work with each department head and the ED to understand needs and look for solutions during a budget crunch, but would make the final determination regarding issues such as which department gets a new computer and which gets an additional staff member. Human Resources Works with human resources or ED to ensure the organization meets it staffing needs, including developing plans to maximize volunteer help. Knowing the organization’s personnel capabilities, the COO can determine which projects the organization can pursue, making more effective decisions regarding the operations of different departments. The COO, rather than the ED, might make the final call on hiring, disciplining or terminating certain Directors. Volunteer: Community supportTeam Rubicon provides a variety of support for individuals, organizations and communities when they need help. This help may be requested at any time during the year - even during hurricane season. In some cases, like earlier in 2020 and probably again soon, the help needed is for food banks in Houston and Texas City to help with distribution of food for the needy. Currently, during this COVID-19 pandemic, Team Rubicon is not accepting offers to help from spontaneous volunteers. We are only using members of Team Rubicon to provide help. Joining is free!
