Volunteer: Upload videos to USB Drives

Bloom is leading adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to a lifetime of community-driven health and wellness. One way we do this is through on-demand videos accessible to adults with IDD at their day habilitation center. Bloom recently filmed a new batch of highly-engaging fitness videos, and we need to get these loaded onto USB drives for dispersal.

The volunteer that selects this position will meet with a Bloom staff member to pick up USB drives. Then, with access to our videos (stored on Vimeo), you will upload them to the correct USB drives. There are approximately 60 USB drives.

While the work sounds inconsequential, it is of utmost importance to approximately 500 athletes across Greater Houston who are looking forward to using their new Bloom Box drives.

Volunteer: Global Cultural Networker

Help build peace and overcome global divisions while honing your intercultural communication skills. At Acquaint, you can build your relationship with the world through 1-on-1 conversations with other volunteers from over 35 countries.

Cultural networking isn't easy. It requires curiosity and appreciation for others while being tolerant of conflicting viewpoints. By practicing finding common ground and connecting with diverse people, we empower the world to work together.

Acquaint is one of the most convenient and rewarding ways to volunteer. The process is simple. First: enter times that you are available in Acquaint's web app. Next, Acquaint pairs you with someone else from around the world during your available time. Finally, at the time of your session, connect for an approximately one-hour conversation and virtual icebreaker. Your session partner could be down the street, or on the other side of the globe.

This role is open to anyone over the age of 14 who has internet access a device that connects to the internet (for example, a smartphone, tablet, or laptop). The device must have a microphone. Generally, if it will work with Zoom, Facetime, etc. it will work with Acquaint. Volunteers under 18 must receive permission from a parent or guardian.

Onboarding and training for this role takes about 4-6 hours total and involves getting to know an Acquaint mentor, who will guide you through how to use the platform.

Volunteer: Call for Weekly Volunteers with Girls Empowerment Network: Houston - Fall 2022

Girl Connect is Girls Empowerment Network’s weekly recurring school-based program. Each semester, Girls Empowerment Network staff, interns, and volunteers work with girls to increase their self-efficacy, resiliency, and positive connection to peers and role models. With support from the Girls Empowerment Network program staff, interns, volunteers, and peers in Houston, Girl Connect equips girls in grades 3-12 with the skills they need to navigate girlhood.

As a Girl Connect volunteer, you will attend weekly sessions at a local school and act as a co-facilitator alongside the Girls Empowerment Network program lead, all while forming encouraging and caring relationships with the girls in the program. Volunteers lead ice breakers, activities, facilitate discussions, and provide assistance to the Girls Empowerment Network program lead on-site.

As a direct service volunteer, you can choose to volunteer with Girl Connect in either of the following ways:
* Co-facilitate a weekly school group that takes place during the school day between 8AM-3PM and lasts for 1½ hours.
* Co-facilitate a weekly afterschool group that takes place between the hours of 3PM-5:45PM and lasts for 2 hours.

Important notes about this volunteer opportunity:

* we anticipate that Fall 2022 semester programming will begin in late August/early-mid September.

We are looking for a videography or multimedia specialist to create a video or video that will show off our young adults and everything they do! All levels of experience are welcome, including students and recent graduates.

We are one of the only programs for young adults with disabilities in our area. Our program allows them to gain essential vocational and independent living skills and a sense of purpose and community inclusion. Far too many young adults spend their days at home following high school due to limited opportunities, and we are working to change that. However, there’s still a lot of work to do. Agency: Skills Transitioning and Employment Pathways to Success

We are looking for a videography or multimedia specialist to create a video or video that will show off our young adults and everything they do! All levels of experience are welcome, including students and recent graduates.

S.T.E.P.S. is a nonprofit organization that empowers young adults with disabilities through vocational training and employment. With your help, we can continue our mission and expand our impact. Would you be able to help us by donating your time?

Volunteer: Sponsor & Install Agape Homes Landscaping

Agape Homes CDC creates quality affordable housing for diverse communities without concentrating poverty. The Agape Homes CDC goal is to give the families in the Agape Development community an affordable option to own a home. This project of landscaping one home is best for 5-7 people but can accommodate up to 10. It is estimated to take approximately 3 hours, depending on the speed of your team.

The cost of this sponsorship is $5,000 per home with no limitation on how many homes you can sponsor as they become available and ready for sponsorship.

Volunteer: Halo House Front Desk Volunteers

We are looking for people who are passionate about what we do, are great communicators, love working as part of a team, and have positive energy and personalities. If this describes you we would be thrilled for you to become a part of the Halo House team and donate your time and talents to our mission.

At Halo House, there are a lot of things that need to be done – answering phones, assisting guests, moving in new residents, pulling weeds, minor repairs, and everything in between. Whether you want to volunteer with a group or just on your own, we have something for everyone.

Our Mission: Halo House Foundation supports blood cancer patients and their caregivers by providing affordable, fully furnished, temporary apartment housing to enable access to lifesaving treatment in the Texas Medical Center.

Our Vision: One day, no one battling blood cancer will have to worry about where they are going to live during treatment in Houston, or going bankrupt while paying for living, eating and parking expenses here, and their rent or mortgage back home. We believe that providing a “home away from home” and easing the family’s financial burden, their focus can be directed toward healing.

Qualifications: We are looking for people with good verbal and written communication skills, familiarity with the Halo House website and services we offer and who want to contribute to something bigger than themselves.

Experience you DON’T need: Information systems, knowledge of blood cancers, knowledge of doctors or other existing housing facilities in the Texas Medical Center, or apartment management experience.
